I’m a 2026 graduate, and I’ll be really honest here.
If you’re from a +2 science background, have a curious mind, and are thinking about entering the software or IT sector after 2026, you need to question your decision. The tech market is not as lucrative, either in Nepal or abroad, as it was in 2020/2022.
AI is changing the tech landscape drastically, and it has improved a lot. Coding agents like Claude have gotten much better. Work that used to take a team of 5-6 developers a month can now be done in 3-5 days. Basically, the coding part is solved. Decision-making, architecture, and testing are still needed, but not every project requires them. If a project is simple and the requirements are clear, a detailed prompt to a coding agent can build it.
AI has made software engineers much more productive. As a result, layoffs have started in Nepal as well. IT companies are getting fewer projects, and freelance work has reduced.
And the market has gotten worse, especially after 2026, and there is no sign of it getting better. Juniors are not getting opportunities, and seniors are getting laid off. So there is the constant fear of getting laid off, and the market is too competitive
Tldr,
AI has made developers so productive that the software job market in Nepal and abroad is shrinking. The tech market is not what laymen outside the industry portray it to be. So, think carefully before joining.
Also, if you still think of pursuing this field despite the uncertainty, I can't stop you if you are really passionate. Just don't waste money on a private college, wasting 8-20L. Move toward AI/Ml field (Study on your own and build your foundation on understanding. Don’t rely on the TU course, its curriculum, or its teacher. Forge your own way)
