can you not get into top Ivy League universities if you don't attend a good school like Rato Bangala?

• Upvotes

I'm an Indian citizen, who's moving to Nepal next year. In class 10th right now, and wanted to know about this.

Note: I'm asking this because there are some good schools like Rato Bangala, Budhanilkantha, etc. who have offline entrance tests.

Can a foreign spouse of an NRN get a long-term visa to live in Nepal?

Hi everyone!

My wife is originally from Nepal, and I'm Canadian. She plans to become a Canadian citizen in the future, at which point she would be eligible for NRN status.

We're thinking about eventually retiring in Nepal, where her family lives, and using it as our home base while occasionally spending extended periods abroad.

From what I've read, NRN cardholders can obtain long-term visas to stay in Nepal. However, I'm having trouble figuring out whether the foreign spouse of an NRN can also obtain a long-term visa, rather than being limited to 150 days per year on a tourist visa.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, where both spouses hold foreign citizenship but only one is of Nepali origin?

I'd especially love to know:

  • Can the foreign spouse obtain a long-term visa through the NRN spouse?
  • If so, how long is the visa valid, and can it be renewed indefinitely?
  • Has anyone actually gone through this process successfully?

We're not looking to work in Nepal, just to live there together during retirement.

Thanks in advance for any experiences or advice!

Question/प्रश्न Quick question about a December trip to Nepal.

Hello!

I'm planning to visit Nepal for two weeks during the December holidays (dec. 19 - jan. 2). I would like to experience Kathmandu for a few days (and during English? new years eve) and would like to do some guided trekking through the Himalayas for the most part. Can I fly to Kathmandu, take a hotel for a few days to start, and then look for local guides to join a trip with and buy the equipment I need there? (Apart from a backpack and trekking shoes, which I already have.) Or would I risk not being able to find any trips to join if I don't prebook something? I would much prefer to just go and figure it out there.

Thanks!

Question/प्रश्न Need Help Regarding My Passport Application

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I applied for my passport about a month ago, but I haven't received any messages or updates on my phone. So, I downloaded the passport app from the Play Store to check my application status, and it showed this message.

There was a small mistake in my permanent address. Because of this, I had to cancel my initial application and submit a new one with the corrected address.

Now I'm worried that this might cause further delays or other problems with my passport application.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? What should I do next? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Question/प्रश्न Hassles regarding citations for Nepalese freelancers

Freelancers of Nepal, do you often struggle to find clear answers about receiving payments, registering, taxes, etc. while working for domestic and/or foreign clients since the official material is scattered across circulars, acts, and notices, and some of it is in Nepali only your grandparents could understand?

If you do struggle to find these things, what are the most common ones?

Or is this whole thing not that big of an issue?

Question/प्रश्न Do they do random drugs test ?

Do Nepali ministers and politicians have to undergo random drug tests? Because I highly doubt some of them would pass. And is there any independent body that conducts these tests without being influenced by politics or politicians?

Question/प्रश्न Deep clean for new hotel apartment

Hi! I wanted to ask for some advice from people experienced in professional housekeeping.

What is the best way to deep-clean kitchens, bathrooms, tile floors, grout, sinks and toilets? Which affordable cleaning products work well for removing grease, stubborn stains, watermarks and unpleasant smells?

Also, what is the proper process hotels use to make sure a room is thoroughly cleaned rather than just surface-cleaned?

I'd really appreciate any practical tips, product recommendations or cleaning methods that work well. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Help/सहयोग Booked on Agoda/Booking.com with a dollar card, chose “Pay at Hotel,” and missed the free cancellation deadline.

Will I be charged?

Help needed: I booked a hotel on Agoda/Booking.com using my dollar card with the “Pay at Hotel” option, but I forgot to cancel before the free cancellation deadline. Will I be charged a fee? My card has almost no balance (7 USD hola). What happens if the charge fails, and can it affect my other cards or accounts? Should I still cancel or message the hotel directly? Anyone who’s faced this, please share. 🙏

What to do in this?

How would Nepal preserve its traditional festivals under a non-Hindu head of state?

Post image
81 Upvotes

I fully support Nepal being a sovereign, secular country where people of every religion have equal rights, including the right to become head of state. But I have a genuine question about the future of our traditions.

Our government is closely connected to centuries-old religious and cultural ceremonies. During Indra Jatra, the president participates in the Kumari tradition. During Fulpati, the Nepal Army and priests bring sacred offerings from Gorkha to Kathmandu. These traditions are deeply connected to Nepal's history and identity.

What would happen if Nepal had a Muslim or Christian president who, because of their personal beliefs, did not feel comfortable participating in certain religious rituals?

Would they still take part as a representative of the nation and its cultural heritage? Would the traditions adapt over time, or would the government need to find another way to preserve them?

I'm not questioning anyone's right to become president. I'm curious about how we can protect Nepal's unique cultural heritage while respecting everyone's religious freedom.

How do you think Nepal should balance these two things in the future?

Career Choice Civil Eng or CA

So I'm trying to choose between these two. I got a civil engineering seat in Pulchowk campus (paying) but I've seen so many engineers underpaid and unemployed. Apart from interest, which is a better career choice in present and future according to your observation and experience?? Is civil too bad?

Help/सहयोग Thailand immigration hotel proof for a 10-day trip with no fixed hotels, and Agoda cancellation fee with an empty card?

Two questions for our 10-day Thailand trip

1. Immigration: We don't want to stay in one place, so we haven't fixed hotels for the whole 10 days. If immigration asks for a hotel booking, is one confirmed booking for the first few nights enough? Or will they want proof for all 10 days?

2. Agoda fee: I booked several hotels on Agoda for my vusa with my Nepali dollar card, which has only about $1 on it. The bookings are pay-at-hotel, but free cancellation has expired and Agoda says a fee applies. If I cancel and the card can't pay, what happens? Will Agoda block my account or chase me? Has anyone got a fee waived by asking the hotel?
Thanks!

Question/प्रश्न Any recommendations for fun activities or classes to join in Kathmandu, suitable for a 20-year-old.

I’m considering options like boxing, Pilates, yoga, taekwondo/karate, guitar or music lessons, or anything similar.

If you know any good places, studios, clubs, or classes around Kathmandu, please share their names and your experiences if you’ve been there.

I’m open to suggestions beyond the ones I mentioned, too.

Nothing beats the peaceful vibe of Fewa Lake on a calm day. What is your favorite memory from Pokhara?

Took a walk along the quiet side of the lake today and had to stop and take this in. The gentle ripples on the water, the row of blue wooden boats waiting for passengers, and the green hills stretching into the clouds—it’s pure therapy.

Whether you're here for the mountain views, boating with friends, or just sitting under a tree doing nothing at all, Fewa Lake always knows how to make you feel at peace.
