Fucking Brexit.

7

u/Glum_Judgment6232 Sep 14 '26

Yep...And this would be like Brexit XXL on steroids

7

u/ManuelTzetzes Sep 14 '26

For England. Not for Ireland, Scotland or Wales. They'll immediately start the process to rejoin the EU. Happy days ahead. You'll always have London, they'll pay the bills for the rest of the country.

u/Adr_LDN Sep 14 '26

It’s good to know nationalism in the UK still relies on delusional nonsense like this to keep going.

1

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 15 '26

TBH, I live in Scotland; how do you think I feel? I need to put up with these deluded maniacs every day. Scotland doesn't meet the criteria for EU membership, but they just struggle to understand this. They also can't understand that the majority of Scotland's trade is with England. They seem to think that they will be leaving with no debt, we will have a part of the UK debt. We don't even have a currency to use, they think it will be OK to just keep using the British pound, so they will essentially be forced by themselves to follow the English banking system.

1

u/Shieldsman Sep 15 '26

it's because nationalism is the opium of the masses right now.

3

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 15 '26

Up here in Scotland, the SNP and their cult members don't actually sell you anything solid and positive, backed up with facts. It's all buzzwords and slogans like "Hope over Fear" or "We can do it". They might as well just ask BBC Scotland to play Braveheart on an endless loop. They believe that England is stealing their electricity; you tell them that Scotland does not own any electricity, and the electricity they are actually speaking about is owned by a Spanish Company. It's the same with the water; they believe an independent Scotland will make endless cash selling water to England.

And in that article where it says Northern Ireland leaders, that is leaders that has the blood of many women and children on their hands.

2

u/Shieldsman Sep 15 '26

It's the politics of resentment. Not saying England is without fault, but they think England is holding Scotland by the balls. The average English person is way more moderate than they paint.

Even if they are pro-independence, it's better to do it without engaging in the politics of resentment. It will just lead to more stupid nationalism down here south of the border - more reform bullshit.

2

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 16 '26

They think Braveheart with Mel Gibson is historically accurate and a true story. And I'm not joking; they honestly do.

1

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26

I feel you brother. The “Brexit was awful so let’s do Brexit dialled up to 11 million” people are insufferable.

You get that from Facebook.

2

u/Adr_LDN Sep 16 '26

There is literally no transfer of Scottish water to ‘England’, you absolute peanut. The infrastructure doesn’t exist for it. You’re not ‘charged’ for anything.

Is this the 2026 version of weird Scottish nationalists banging on about the ‘Whisky tax’ in 2014? Genuinely braindead stuff.

2

u/Drokiconix Sep 16 '26

Exporting Scottish Water: EIR release - gov.scot

"Scottish Government still considers that there is no commercial viability of bulk export of water to England or internationally owing to the high costs of transport and pumping and the volume of water required"

1

u/Frosty_Shame8876 Sep 16 '26

You do realise England would pull all their resources and military defense out of you guys before you become independent? Very funny you don't realise this.

0

u/Valois7 Sep 16 '26

What criteria do they not meet? besides being independent ofcourse. Also what do you mean you don't have a currency to use? Euro is a part of the appeal of the EU.

2

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

The criteria set out by the EU. But even at that, what is the plan. Is the plan to just get Indy, get into the EU, then start sponging off the rest of Europe.

Despite what some people like to think, things like the cost of living issues aren't unique to us. All countries are getting hit with it, and all of them are tightening their belts.

0

u/Valois7 Sep 16 '26

Yeah if that's the quality of your answer, Scotland actually does meet the criteria set out by the EU. The rest of your issues might be valid though, i'm not Scottish but quality of life has been hit everywhere indeed.

2

u/Frosty_Shame8876 Sep 16 '26

Numerous times the EU have repeatedly said they don't just want Scotland,Wales or NI they want the whole of the UK or nothing. Also you don't meet the economic requirements since you're a national deficit to the treasury. Not to mention you'd have to setup your banking system before joining the EU since it's a multi year process oh also what about your defence? You wouldn't have any military. The austerity Scotland would go through if they gained independence would make the 14 years of Tory austerity look like a fucking joke.

1

u/Do_You_Pineapple_Bro Sep 16 '26

Pretty much the only reason why I'd be keen to leave Scotland. I'd rather watch the ship burn from the river banks than be stuck on it.

1

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 16 '26

With a currency, the SNP plan was to just keep using the pound and be tied to the English banking system.

2

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 16 '26

Scotland doesn't even have a currency PMSL. There ya go, that's one.

1

u/Infinitystar2 Sep 15 '26

Delusion and nationalism kind of go hand-in-hand.

0

u/Own-Jaguar-472 Sep 15 '26

Which delusional nonsense are you talking about? The Brexit form of Nationalism, where England's nationalism got to decide for the rest of the United kingdom. Or independent state form of Nationalism where each country within the UK can decide for itself.

3

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26

I mean I’ll be the one to let you know that you can’t really moan about Brexit while advocating for it on steroids champ.

But yes, nationalists are closest in tone and the tendency to go for utterly nonsense claims to make their case to Brexiters. The similarities are fairly remarkable - two sides of the same coin really.

5

u/Necessary-Nobody8138 Sep 15 '26

Wales voted to leave

2

u/Figueroa_Chill Sep 15 '26

In Scotland, more people voted to leave than people who voted SNP.

-1

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

English immigrants in Wales voted leave you mean

5

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26

No, Welsh people voted to leave - almost a million of them. Over a million Scots did the same. More people in each of London and the South East voted remain than both Wales and Scotland combined

By contrast, 1.5 million Londoners voted to leave.

Perhaps grow up a bit, stop relying on delusional bullshit about ‘colonists’ (as you put it in another comment) or your idiotic ‘no true Welshman’ and ‘every Englishman’ waffling and respect the fact that in a democracy, sometimes we don’t win and get what we want.

I’m going to politely suggest you reread what I actually wrote before telling me (or anyone else) to “get fucked”.

Have another go.

2

u/dc_1984 Sep 15 '26

Not a majority but 20% of Scots did

1

u/Shake_Speare_ Sep 15 '26

Meaningless.

2

u/dc_1984 Sep 15 '26

That's a million people

1

u/Shake_Speare_ Sep 16 '26

It's meaningless if they hold an independence referendum and less Scots vote remain. 20% is a trifling amount of opposition in any vote.

1

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26

It isn’t ‘meaningless’ when people are making claims of “Scotland/Wales/England voted X”.

None of the nations were uniform, and pluralities won out. Thats why the damn thing was as close as it was.

No English colonists voted to leave. Perhaps grow up a bit and understand the colonial nature of England:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/22/english-people-wales-brexit-research

4

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

This (incredibly flaky) bit of post-hoc ‘research’ from Dorling doesn’t actually substantiate your idiotic claim at all, and the fact you think it does is embarrassing. Also fun that Swansea is apparently an ‘English’ city and Carmarthenshire, Flintshire and the Rhondda are ‘English’ local authorities since they registered a leave vote, whereas Monmouthshire - actually on the border and historically very English - voted Remain.

Adding in the use of the term ‘colonists’ too is comedy gold. A sort of Poundland Glyndwr, trying to grievance monger his way through life.

0

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

Oh darling, your insults just strengthen the Welsh independence movement. Dismissing research into your countries activities and influence on others is cute. Yet you present zero return argument beyond ‘trust me bro’. Classic Englishman

3

u/Adr_LDN Sep 15 '26

You’re having to pretend anyone who didn’t vote a particular way in a referendum a decade ago isn’t Welsh, cupcake. That reeks of utter weakness and desperation. You clearly hate large parts of your own country.

It’s also incredibly funny to see you flail about ‘no argument’ here when the actual numbers from Welsh local authorities are presented, and your whining is completely demolished in one incredibly easy swoop.

You’re not a classic Welshman. Welsh folk are good people, and tend to do significantly less mewling and be rather cleverer than whatever you are.

You are actually mad.

0

Yes, the I don’t like the evidence so he/she must be ‘mad’ line.

2

u/Necessary-Nobody8138 Sep 15 '26

You’re actually quite nasty and haven’t said anything that warrants proof - other than you don’t like people from the West Midlands on holiday in Barmouth!

No literally Welsh citizens voted to leave
the valleys being one of the largest brexit voting areas. They are quite Welsh.

Right now I think independence is honestly a terrible idea.. no actual plans in a world that is becoming extremely hostile. As a Welshman we need to be more united than ever. The uk was powerful and wealthy because it was united not divided.

0

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

No English immigrants in Wales, mostly retirees and more likely to vote swayed the vote to Brexit.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/22/english-people-wales-brexit-research

As a Welshman, we need independence. We need to secure our borders, water and our land are extremely valuable in a future of climate change. England has no future except as a dry desert.

2

u/Some-Vacation8002 Sep 15 '26

literally we are so closely linked it would be disasterous finacially to untangle... your statement like all independence claims holds no water, as its just a statement with no actual idea of what independence means realitically and finacially for wales... no discussion about defence... afterwhich would literallty have no nuclear deterant, no talk about where actual money would come from, or how we would need to fund things...apart from... selling water. and in about 10 years england will have more reseviours than you can shake a stick at.

We have america, china and russia desperatly trying to push indepence, so they have a weaker world power to overcome.

3

u/Necessary-Nobody8138 Sep 15 '26

And what about the immigrants in England? How did they vote?

0

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

Why does that matter: millions of English colonists in a small country, versus hundreds of thousands in a country with 60 million.

3

u/Madman_Salvo Sep 15 '26

This is demented.

1

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

It is, it is why independence is such an emergency. We then need to start unravelling the exploitation of Wales by England. It will take decades.

3

u/Madman_Salvo Sep 15 '26

No, I mean your line of thinking is demented, about Wales - as it exists today - being merely a colony of England, rather than a member of a country that is a union of countries. As well as the notion that all the other nations of the union will be somehow better off if they become independent.

Tax surplus/deficit of each nation:

England: ÂŁ40-60 billion net surplus Scotland: ~ÂŁ14 billion net deficit (even accounting for North Sea oil and gas Wales: ~ÂŁ16 billion net deficit Northern Ireland: ~ÂŁ11 billion net deficit

Each of these nations would be crippled if they left the UK. Not to mention each of their largest trading partners is the UK. This gets worse when you look at trade.

Scotland: ~60% of their trade is with the UK Wales: ~60% of their trade is with the UK NI: ~50% of their trade is with the UK

1

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

Ah yes, usual English mindset; disagree with me and you’re ’demented’. No wonder you’re hated worldwide.
