Coraline(Coraline):”It’s over and done with, for us.” Coraline finds the Ghost Children’s eyes and freed their souls from a child predator/spider lady and they’re telling her she’s still skulking around in the house?
Thanks for nothing.
Are we serious? And now she has to make sure she doesn’t come back and she has to do it alone? And she can still reach her parents? I would’ve been terrified. Coraline would need a lot of therapy. They never told her about the Other Mother being able to get back to her world.

Luke Skywalker(Star Wars):At the climax of Return of the Jedi Luke deliberately goes without the aid of his comrades to confront Darth Vader and the Emperor. Though as the Emperor disdainfully pointed out, Luke had faith that his friends would succeed.

Miles and Kingpin(Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), near the end of the final battle, Miles Morales sends the other Spider-People home, since they're in danger of disintegrating if they stay in his dimension for too long, and fights the Kingpin alone.

The final missions(Call of Duty: Black Ops II) become this, especially in the Golden Ending. For most of the game, David Mason has a reliable squad of SEALs under his command and is commanded by Admiral Briggs from the USS Obama. Then Odysseus happens. The Obama is suddenly stormed by Menendez's mercs and severely damaged, if not outright destroyed. Farid, if he survived "Achilles' Veil", is killed, Crosby is W.I.A., Salazar turns out to be Menendez's mole, and Briggs is critically wounded, if not outright killed. By the final mission, the only one of your supporting team that you can possibly still have with you is Harper - and even then, that's only if Farid didn't kill him to keep his cover in an earlier mission, which is a requirement for the best ending.

Lore A fan inadvertently turns their favored fiction or legend into something real.

Galaxy Quest: a group of aliens find “historical documents” of an sci-fi tv show and begin modeling their technology and equipment after its set pieces. They even end up bring in the original actors of the show when they need help against a ruthless invader. All while they are under the impression that the things they’ve been watching are real events and not just a television show - with actors and fake props. They even go through the effort of duplicating the technology to an absolute egregious degree of accuracy. Like making it so a self destruct function only stops at the last second, even when pressed earlier. Because that’s what happened in the show.

Big Bad Beetleborgs: after a group of kids save Flabber(who is effectively a mix of a ghost and genie), he offers them one wish in return. They wish to become beetleborgs - Superheroes from a comic series they’re a fan of. Flabber agrees, but in granting them their powers he also accuse sets free the villians of the comic. The main story is about how the kids now need to defeat them and out the villian back where they belong, now actually taking up the roles of the heroes they admired from the comics as they defend innocent people and fight evil.

Agatha All Along: a group of witches(and one teen boy) want to go on a journey through the Witches Road, a legend about a magical road that would give whoever finishes the road something they wish to attain. But here’s the thing. The road is only a myth. It doesn’t exist. It never existed. It’s a con that Agatha Harkness created as a way to trick witches so she could lead them to their deaths and steal their powers. The titular “road” the characters travel on for most of the series is revealed to be an illusion created by Billy, the son of the Scarlet witch. He creates his own version based on the stories and legends he studied about it. The various trials the witches go through are also seemingly built by their own insecurities and trauma, with Billy’s mind reading abilities subconsciously turning them into another part of the road. He’s actually wracked with guilt at the end because he realized that means he got multiple killed on a journey HE manifested without realizing it.

Alduin- The Dragonborn is seconds away from being executed when Alduin attacks Helgen, unintentionally saving the one person capable of permanently defeating him. If Alduin had simply attacked somewhere else, the Dragonborn would presumably have died before becoming a threat.

Lord Shen- Had Shen left the pandas alone, Po likely would’ve grown up in the panda village rather than being raised by Mr. Ping in the Valley of Peace.

  1. Fury (2014) Shia LaBeouf pulled his own tooth out with a pair of pliers after failing to find a dentist that would do it, thinking it would give his character texture.

  2. Chapter 27 (2007) Jared Leto gained 67 pounds to play Mark David Chapman by drinking microwaved pints of Häagen-Dazs ice cream mixed with olive oil and soy sauce. The rapid weight gain gave him gout and forced him to use a wheelchair due to the pain.

  3. All Things Fall (2011) - 50 Cent lost over 50 pounds for his role as a college football player diagnosed with cancer through a liquid diet and running on a treadmill for three hours a day over nine weeks.

Lore A Common Lore Critism Is Addressed In A Piece Of Side-Content

Thumbnail

Pokémon Masters EX- A common criticism in Pokémon is that Lance, The Kanto Champion and Dragon Trainer, uses non-dragon type Pokémon such as Gyarados, Charizard, and Aerodactyl on his team. In this game, he explains not every dragon Pokémon is a dragon-type.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition- The protagonist of the game has the option to ask Gandalf why the Fellowship didn't simply have the eagles drop The One Ring into the ocean or fly it directly to Mount Doom, a common question among the fanbase.

Gandalf explains that they don't know what dwells in the ocean and that it wouldn't destroy the ring, possibly leaving it to return in the future. As far as flying the ring to Mount Doom, not only do The Great Eagles not take orders from them, but they'd almost certainly be spotted by The Eye of Sauron and no match for The Ring Wraiths.

A happy ending like Sauron exploding after throwing the ring? No, that doesn't work here.

  1. The "truth" of the Heart of Darkness – *Darkest Dungeon*: After reaching the depths of the estate, standing before the gateway to an ancient, millennial evil, sacrificing two members of your party, and defeating the Heart of Darkness, everything returns to normal—right? Well, as it turns out, the estate is trapped in a kind of temporal loop. All the progress you made to restore it is undone: buildings crumble, and the Heart returns to continue devouring human flesh—whether that of its own cultists or of the fools who dare to explore the dungeon. And as for you? You can only do what the Ancestor did: bring in another relative to keep the swirling vortex of madness emanating from the Darkest Dungeon at bay, while you take your own life, driven to it by the new, terrible knowledge you have just uncovered. And—in a final, chilling display of existential horror—one day the planets will align, and the Heart of Darkness will burst forth from the earth, shattering the planet like an egg. Ruin has come to our family.

  2. The Warp—in Warhammer 40k, Chaos and the Warp are nothing more than a reflection of the collective psyche of all the galaxy's intelligent species. Ever since the Warp tore the thin veil between the material and the immaterial (first with the opening of the Eye of Terror, and now with the *Cicatrix Maledictum*), Chaos has invaded our world, and the Chaos Gods further muddy the waters with their machinations—it took only a whisper here and a nudge there to spark the Horus Heresy and ruin the Emperor's project. No matter how many prayers, sanctified relics, or promethium blasts are thrown at the problem, Chaos will remain; as long as it has its sustenance—the collective psyche, not worship, as the Emperor claimed—Chaos will continue to exist and attempt to corrupt the material world. The only way to win this fight would be to kill every sentient being in the galaxy capable of impacting the Warp (good luck with that) or turn them all into Blanks—neither of which is viable. All that remains is to pray fervently that Chaos does not further upset the balance.

  3. The war on drugs—*The Wire*: one can hardly call it a "war," since wars eventually end; but regardless, consider a more realistic example: in the decaying city of Baltimore, there is no way to halt the spiral of violence that constitutes the war on drugs. The police are more concerned with generating statistics and meeting quotas for "solved" crimes than with actual police work, acting only when something threatens to upset the status quo. As for the drug gangs, even if one or two individuals might desire a more "civilized" way of operating, the reality is that violence remains an essential component of how the drug trade is managed (as Stringer Bell discovered). Ultimately, those with good intentions are displaced by those who understand how the game is played; the best they can do is join forces to push things forward, only for the cycle to repeat itself endlessly in an eternal dance among all these players.

Characters "Stop using quirky words"

This is when a character says a quirky. Cute or goofy version of a common phrase and another calls them out (often telling them to say it normal)

  1. In the Loud House, Luna tries to practice a job interview with her dad but keeps using cool Rockstar lingo such as "my device is acting totally bogus" Lincoln calls her out and asks her to instead say "its not working"

  2. In Family Guy, Dr Hartman keeps doing bait and switch answers with Peter and Lois asks him to stop doing thr gimmick and say what's wrong

  3. When Youtuber Haylo Haley did a video on the decay of Booktok, she called out an author of a romance book for using the line "he's allergic to comitment" and said it would have been better if she wrote "he doesnt like comitment"

  4. In the famous "use your big boy words" joke, a teacher keeps calling out students for using "baby words" like choo choo instead of train or Nana instead of grandmother (idk what image ro use so I took a Pic of a tiktoker reading the joke)

Characters [Fun Trope] Legally Distinct Characters

Thumbnail

What do you mean this character has a lot of similarities to another, it’s totally a different original character (essentially parody characters or characters that it is very obvious where the inspiration came from, I’m gonna just do a bit where I pretend that they are totally not, okay, also I left out a fun one on purpose because i thought it would be more fun for the audience, I think it’s fun when they have to go around and make their own when its obvious whose it is supposed to be.)

Characters:

Agent Spider from Invincible:

What do you mean this character is similar to any Marvel character, just because he’s got spider abilities and is voiced by Josh Keaton, doesn’t mean that its Spider-Man

Rorschach from Watchmen:

This character may have a faceless mask and wear trenchcoat and fedora but that does not mean he is a knock off of The Question

Creature of the Clergy from Its Bunlith! The Witch Upstairs!

Okay this character may have some resemblances to other characters but it has a fluffy tail so it is in no way the Cleric Beast from Bloodborne

(I have no idea of the actual name of the last creature so I made my own, please let me know if there is one)

• Family Guy - In a deleted scene, Evil Stewie is shown entering the bully's house and giving him a noogie. It seems rather harmless until Stewie mentions "Why's his knuckle turning red?" Then screams of the bully are heard, implying that Evil Stewie noogied his head so hard it punched a hole through the bully's head.

• Old (2021) - In a deleted cold opening, a man is shown crawling and shouting for help in the aging island. What makes this more terrifying is that this person could originally have been a baby or child, it's implied since he's walking on all fours

Roadrunner: Roadrunners name being the same as the actual animal heavily contributes to this one

Knuckles the echidna: Knuckles even calls himself a porcupine in his Sonic Adventure theme song

Tasmanian Devil: same at Roadrunner (kind of strange that looney tunes has two of these)

Wolverine: even Hugh Jackman didn’t know what a wolverine was when he was casted to play the character

Perry the platypus: in the extended version of his theme song it goes on to mention simple aspects of his design like his bill and tail as if they would be uncommon in a platypus

Edit: for got to label this as a (Meta Trope)

(Undertale) When naming yourself after Frisk, the game will turn to its hard mode. While there are other special names that trigger a unique response, Frisk is the only one to have such an impact on gameplay.

(Fallout 4) Your npc companion codsworth will adress you by your chosen last name (with spoken dialogue, not just text), so as long as you pick a fairly common name he will actually use it as there are hundreds of variations to this.

(Terraria Calamity mod) In older versions of this mod you could acces the Red Murasama early by naming yourself Jetstream Sam or Samuel Rodrigues. As the red murasama is originally from metal gear rising where weapons are ID locked, it actually makes sense for it to unlock to its owner without restriction.

Breaking Bad - The twins are oddly cartoonish villains in an otherwise realistic show.

Rocky IV - Due to the inclusion of the robot, Rocky takes place in a retro-futuristic reality. Stallone included the robot because it was a therapeutic tool used for his son, who was diagnosed with autism.

The Simpsons - The humor worked better when it was more grounded on reality, but over time it started relying on gags that break reality.

Real life example - Paris unclogged its sewers with giant spheres of iron.

  1. Dragon Ball Z - in order to buy more time for Goten and Trunks in the time chamber, Piccolo recommends that Super Buu kills some more time by... killing everyone else on Earth. I mean I guess you've got Dragon Balls but still, what the Hell, man? This backfires about as spectacularly as it sounds as Buu does exactly that, only he doesn't take his time with it.
  2. Doctor Who - Amy and Rory are trapped in a TARDIS possessed by a malevolent entity called House. When asked why House shouldn't just kill the two right away, Rory replies "Well, killing us quickly wouldn't be any fun. Why not take your time torturing us." Like I get being a bit panicked but why was that your first suggestion?

Hated Tropes [Double Standar Hated Trope] Women Sexually Harassing Men Is Positive and Not Criminal

Thumbnail
gallery
4.4k Upvotes

A trope where women sexually harass men who clearly feel uncomfortable or refuse their advances, yet the behavior is portrayed as funny, harmless, or even flirtatious rather than inappropriate.

What I hate about this trope is the double standard: the media condemns sexual harassment when a man does it, but plays it for laughs when a woman does. It punishes the gender, not the behavior.

Why is this behavior treated as comedy when the genders are reversed?

-A recent example is Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), where Black Widow pressures Peter Parker to remove his suit and join her in a bathhouse despite his obvious discomfort.

-Another example is Tron: Legacy (2010), where Sam Flynn is forcibly stripped by a group of female programs, one of whom even makes a suggestive remark about his anatomy. The scene is played for laughs despite his obvious lack of consent.

Sokka (Avatar the Last Airbender) - Plenty of cool moments in battle where he has to use his intelligence and wit as he is the only one is the group who can't bend. Honestly a hilarious character who can show that he can serious when he needs to be.

Alebrije (Legend Quest) - One of the MVP’s of the show. Not only has he put his life on the line for his team on multiple occasions, but he can read people's personalities/emotions surprisingly well and give advice to them in serious moments.

miscellaneous Works that were, in fact, made while on drugs

Thumbnail
gallery
127 Upvotes

Sometimes people see a strange work of fiction and wonder if the creator(s) was/were under the influence while making it. For these works, that's literally true.

The Point (1971), by Harry Nilsson

Nilsson was a singer-songwriter who came up with the idea for this film in this way:

"I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to points. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's a point to it.'"

The film is about a little boy, Oblio, who is born without a pointy head in a world where everyone is born with a pointy head. This gets him ostracized and he goes on a journey to discover the meaning of his life. It involves a bunch of wacky characters and at least one song featuring a decomposing whale.

Cujo (1981), by Stephen King

King has stated that he was so deep in alcohol and cocaine while writing this book that he barely remembers writing it at all. He came to sorely regret that, saying that he missed out on the joy of creation that he normally experiences while writing his novels, and that the book would have had a better plot had he not been so compromised.

The book is about a Saint Bernard dog who contracts rabies and attacks people, eventually trapping the human family he'd been a part of in a sweltering car.

Characters (Loved Trope) Disrespectful character showing genuine admiration for someone

[Olenna Tyrell and Brienne] Olenna is probably the most disrespectful and condescending character in Got, she's not even afraid to talk shit to Tywin in front of his face. The moment she first saw Brienne she was completely enamord with her and is one of the few people she compliments.

[Yujiro Hanma and Muhammad Ali] Yujiro is probably one of the most disrespectful characters in all of fiction, he routinely humiliates and emasculates every new US president. Despite that he genuinely respects Muhammad Ali and even admires his a little bit even though Both acknowledged Ali is weaker than him.
