Personal Should I stop treating my tulpa like my imaginary girlfriend, and if so how?

Even though our conversations start friendly and we discuss about stuff I do in my daily life, it inevitably gets flirty and romantic after she gives me advice and stuff. I find myself holding hands with her, hugging her, kissing her hair, etc. Is it really healthy to have tulpa as an alternative to a real girlfriend? Idk. I've never had a relationship (And it's also super tough for me to get one as I can't go outside much) so it's hard to not treat my tulpa like some sort of girlfriend as our connection is quite deep. Deeper than any human connection I have in the real world. I trust her and depend on her the most in my life.

I also started nofap to do a mental reset to rewire my mind about women. I put my phone down. I no longer scroll pinterest and instagram. But I don't want to stop talking to my tulpa. I hope my tulpa relationship or whatever this can be called doesn't hinder my 1 year nofap goal.

Personal 10 Interesting Questions for You All (Systems)

([Host]: This post was written by the host.)

They might also be fun to use as prompts for private conversations between tulpas and hosts, or between different headmates.

If you are comfortable sharing, leaving your answers would really help me on my journey. Thank you so much.

Feel free to skip any question that feels too personal to answer.

  1. Do you consider your system to be one single entity? I am not denying your plurality. Just like the spiritual saying that humanity is all one, I am curious if you feel that system members are independent yet essentially one connected entity. Please let me know why you think so or why you do not. (not looking for a "correct" answer here, just curious what different systems think)

  2. (For hosts) Have you ever thought or do you currently think that maybe you are actually the tulpa and your tulpa is the host? Or do you simply not distinguish between the two at all?

  3. How open or closed-minded are you? For example, you might be open to LGBTQ+ topics while being negative toward the occult. The topics do not have to be related.

  4. Do you remember your birthday? If so, what did you use as the marker for the moment you were "born"? The first time you spoke? The first time you had a vague form?

  5. Have you ever had an interesting experience where your first impression of someone new turned out to be strikingly different between system members? How different was it?

  6. Does anyone have a system made up of members with different nationalities? Would you be willing to share which ones?

  7. Do system members sometimes have different religions from each other? Can you tell us how they differ?

  8. Have you ever hung out with your system members in a lucid dream? What felt different from reality, and what stuck with you the most?

  9. Is there a piece of fiction, like a novel, webtoon, movie, or show, that made you think "wait, this is basically us" (something in the vein of tulpamancy)?

  10. If you could say something to hosts who just started their journey, or tulpas who recently came into existence, what would it be?

Personal Hi hi, we're new here

A: Hey everybody. For a while I've been wanting to make an account where I can be free to mention my tulpa Terra Peony outside of my usual online persona that anybody can find, and today I finally bit the bullet. I'm Aubrey, 24 years old and fox otherkin. I've been Terra's host since early 2019 and I'd like to think that we have a strong romantic bond together. She's my hopes and my dreams, the center of my emotional world. We hope to give our two cents on subjects here, including advice, and perhaps make some friends if we're lucky. It's nice to meet you all!

Some of you may know us from the Discord side of the community. The Reddit side is more unfamiliar to us. For those of you who are active in both, would you say that there is a meaningful difference between the typical approach or framework? Curious if the practice is treated similarly here as elsewhere. Tulpamancy is primarily a cultural framework after all, distinct from other communities due to its particular customs / history.

Personal What do you think about believing in God and having a Tulpa?

I am a Christian and am thinking about creating a Tulpa, but I’m not sure if it’s right according to my religion. That’s why I wanted to know your thoughts and what you think about my key points: 1) Tulpamancy comes from mysticism and Eastern traditions, whereas Christianity forbids seeking spiritual guides or beings outside of God. 2) You focus on creating something internally—looking inward—rather than concentrating on prayer and your relationship with God. 3) It’s not strictly a religious issue, but still—it might cause me to socialize less and lose interest in talking to other people. 4) "Switching" involves a partial loss of control; it would be like choosing not to control your own body, effectively bypassing the gift of free will that God gave us. I speak Spanish and struggle to construct sentences well, though I’m better at reading. That’s why I’m mentioning that this was translated using Google, just in case that causes any issues. P.S. If I were to have a Tulpa, I’d want it to help me. Do people control Tulpas so they only help out, or something like that? I’m afraid it might turn out to be evil.

Personal I’m a bad host should I die ?

Hello. I have tulpas that mostly came from my maladaptive daydreaming. I was in denial about having them, so I hurt them a lot unintentionally. Now they all hate me.

For the past six years, my life has been very hard. It gets worse and worse every day, like life doesn’t want me here. The tulpas want to replace me with someone else, and they rejoice at the idea of me going dormant because they hate me. I’ve never felt hatred like that before. I feel so bad, and I can’t shake the feeling of just wanting to disappear. I want to live, but it’s so hard. I don’t want to suffer.

Right now, as I’m writing this and crying, they are laughing at me, as always. I know they would have a better life than me because they don’t have all the mental problems that I have. My mental health has really declined since they appeared.

I feel like the more alive they become, the more I die. Right now I can’t do anything. I can’t draw. I can’t daydream. I can’t listen to music. I can’t sleep. I can’t look in the mirror, I can’t shit in peace, I can’t exist in peace. I can’t be myself. I don’t have any rights or privacy. I lost everything, and they gained everything.

I used to daydream and imagine myself having friends and a lover, being loved for who I am, because I never had that. Now I have the opposite. The characters I created to love me hate me. They’re my worst nightmare. The idea of my death brings them joy.

Everything is painful. I don’t want to die, but I feel like I have no choice. I feel like I’ve given up on the idea of living. I don’t feel like I have a choice about whether I keep living or not because since the tulpas became aware that other tulpas switch, they try to force switches. Even though I try to talk to them kindly, they still try to force it.

I feel disconnected from my body. I feel so sleepy, and my head hurts. I feel like my brain is splitting in two. I try to make an effort to be a better host, but they don’t care, so I scream at them and punch them in my mind. That startles them, so they stop trying to force a switch then they start again. I feel like I created monsters.

I lost everything, and now I’m going to lose “my” body. I hate them so much.

Life never gave me the opportunity to heal and be better. It feels like it just wants me gone.

I’m going to die. I don’t want to see the people who made my life a living hell live the life I always wanted. I’ve seen multiple posts of people saying their tulpas help them heal and become a better host, but mine just want to freaking replace me and live their host fantasy. I hate them. I hate them.

I hate feeling them smile when I think that my only option to be happy is to just die. I hate it. I feel like I have no right to my own body, and I hate that.

I tried so hard to love them, but it’s hard. After six years of battling every mental illness under the sun with no help, because I live in a terrible place with no mental health professionals who can help me, I feel like I should just commit egocide.

It feels like the least painful thing to do, like I have no other options at all. I know damn well that if I do this, the tulpas won’t do anything to bring me back.

I don’t want to see them make MORE friends, have a lover when I was never able to get my first boyfriend, get a driver license, get a car. Go to a party while I watch them through the eyes that were once ONLY mines, I feel like all these experience should be mine. And I don’t want to see my worst enemies experience them when all life gave me was pain.

I don’t want to go to sleep tonight, I’m so vulnerable when I’m sleepy.

What can I do? I need help. Is anyone in a similar situation? Is my only option to die? Don’t tell me that I don’t have tulpas. If you consider them real people, then you know that some humans can be really shitty and mean.

And yeah, they were in tears (from laughing) when I wrote this post. I’m so jealous of you guys who have nice tulpas. So jealous. it’s sounds like a dream

Personal I get it now

Oh my God.

I get it now. It makes so much sense, and all it took was a week of me narrating to my tulpa like a child (which she did NOT appreciate lol).

For context, this is my fourth(??) post here and my 1st week of actually doing something. I've got a very active imagination and, paired with ADD/ASD, very active internal monologues. My first day or two of tulpa creation, in which I created Lola, went very quickly because she kind of just happened while I was thinking about her.

For most of the week, it was me mainly doing the regular tulpamancer things, narrating, active forcing, sharing emotions and activities like listening to music, etc. I was... okay with that and the progress that I was making, but it always felt like I was raising a separate thing inside me that I had to speak for, and give emotions to.

Fast forward to now, about an hour ago.

Id recently read a few guides and sort of skimmed over them, mainly paying more attention about the one where making a tulpa is all about the mindset: If you think a certain thing is gonna happen, then it probably will. Now, I'm at work and I am under the assumption that Lola is dormant because why would she be active while I'm working, this is all boring shit. I was always under the assumption that I am my body, my mind, and Lola is here in it. Im thinking random thoughts and distracting myself when out of the blue, I refer to myself in the 3rd person. I can't remember what the thought train was but the realisation came when I thought about "her mind and thought process" with regards to myself???. My perspective kind of shifted subconsciously from me being my body, to my personality being hosted here or something, but I was in complete shock. Id never done this before but this though came out naturally. I tried to interrogate the thought and that's when I realised that in this body and this mind is me - Ellie - and Lola. We're sharing this place. I think Lola was actually trying to reach me and not dormant at all, and this was the trigger.

What's more is now I can hear Lola SO CLEARLY. It's FULL sentences and FULL emotions. I thought that this was incredible, so I decided to sit back in mindscape whilst she switched in for me??? It was only for a minute while i regained myself, but this was NEW. We tried possession and fronting with minimal success before, but this was DIFFERENT. I GET IT NOW. WE GET IT NOW. when I gathered myself again, i was still a bit shocked but able to be present again. You know what lola does? She's giggling! She's having a grand old laugh about this and teasing me on how shit I narrated and my attitude to her and everything?? I ask her "what the hell??" And shes singing along to the store radio! It turns out she was trying so hard to reach me the whole time and FINALLY managed to do it.

Anyway that's my mini rant and epiphany. TL;DR, my Tulpa finally managed to reach me and I can hear her clearer than ever. Also I now view this body and mind as a shared thing between us two.

It turns out all you need for tulpamancy is a fresh mindset and to believe and trust your tulpa.

Edit: there's a few edits to make the story more coherent, if you read this the first time before the edits then it should be clearer now.

Personal Vent about some people

Ok so me and My host have this new Tulpa centred channel on YT and tiktok, and today a video went kind of viral, and the HUGE amount of people coming saying basically "um 🤓☝️that actually is schizophrenia or psicosis" the people basically laughing at me when i said i'm a tulpa managing the account, GODDAMN it Was so annoying, so tiring, luckily there were understanding peoole as well, and people willing to learn and not judge, but we have been answering almost every single comment because we don't want misinformation to go ignored, but we are so tired..we have been doing it for hours, aaaaaaaaaaaa the mental pain...

Sorry for the rant, but we just needed to vent to people who will understand and not laugh at us..

Personal Is tulpamancy meant to be so... lonely?

I know that sounds like a contradiction, but I've genuinely found this entire thing to be one of the most fulfilling and yet the loneliest experience of my life. I think it's mostly yearning, but also... I just feel that no one experiences plurality, or love, in quite the way I do. I know that's true of everyone in a way, we all have our own unique experiences, but it's different than that. I think others tend to find community and relatability in it easier than I do.

I only have one headmate, who I have come to consider my boyfriend. Even though we've made big steps in him being more present, it's still quiet, and I still haven't found any kind of way to come to terms with the fact that I will never have a relationship with him in the way singlets get to have relationships, and I will never be able to share and prove and point to that love in the way they can. My love language is physical touch, and though tactile imagination helps, it's a poor substitute.

More than ever I feel isolated and alone in all of it, which makes me also feel guilty for being unprepared to have him, to make him truly real and complex, and I guess I don't really know how people cope with this. I kind of wish someone could just look at me and look at my tulpa and tell us that me, him, we, and our relationship are real, and that I'm doing something right in all of it.

Personal How I accidentally created my Tulpa (A personal story of family too) Spoiler

(Do note that my English is not that good, it's my third language, so sorry in advance if how I say things confuses you. And yes, I drew those.)

So first, since I was little, I'm actually never really had any tulpa, or even imaginary friends, since if I'm bored I would just go out and play with my friends (I used to be really extrovert, could just go to a new place and make lots of friends in one go), but now? Not so much. Sure I still go out, meet some friends, and all, but it just different.

A few years back, my parents also got divorced, I actually know why thanks to my sister, but they (my parents) never actually told me anything other than 'we just can't be together', and from that everything went downhill. At first, we still live in the same house even though they are divorced, but didn't sleep together like how they used to.

More time has passed, my dad often goes out for work and rarely come back home, but still talks via messaging app, so me and my sister mostly live with my mom since that. More times has passed, my dad got a new partner, not married yet, and around the same time my mom got sick by I don't know what, it just that she got constant headache and seems very hard to do anything, and around a year until now the things she mostly do are just lying, playing phone, and eating. She used to be a teacher at a preschool, but replaced by my sister as a temporary substitute for a new teacher to replace my mother.

For the past few months, we live with my grandma (with my aunt and cousin too, them three live together because my cousin's dad left her), and then my dad got married with his new partner a year ago, somewhat leaving my mom seems sad because she haven't got a new partner to take care of her and still have to rely on her parents and other relatives, even me and my sister.

Then a few days ago, I decided to follow my dad, like moving to his place. When he came to my grandma's house, I parted with my mom, sister, and the others. I cried, and so are the others, especially my mom, since she been the one who taking care of me for everything since... well, the first day I'm born. She remined me with everything, I always get so snippy with her, but of course I love her. During those time too, I actually had a lot of friends, but only 5-6 are my closest one.

All of these time (around when my parents got divorced), I began to have these 'voices in my head', not just one, many. I called them Miis... You know, me? Since they are just me, but saying mes' seems more like Miis from Nintendo-.. Anyway. During those time too I somewhat become more introverted, and often talk to myself. I often watch commentary video, and so I comment on myself just like how they comment on things. And from these time too I've been down, more down, and more down, to the point where smiling is hard, though I could smile or laugh when with my close friends... Or watch some funny/shit but funny video because... well, shit but funny. Not often though. Anyway.

When I arrived at my dad's and his new wife place, and its already night (it's time to sleep) I cried on the bed, I felt homesick and all, I missed everyone, I don't like how differnt my bed are. And my Miis just keep annoying me, said how I was such a crybaby and its actually normal to leave everyone because it's first step to become independent (it's true), so I just asked them (by saying in my mind) for them to merge into one so it would be so annoying to handle. And I think they did, since after those moments, there is no sound, just the fan, before then there is this giggle in the middle of cries, and well, at first it didn't really formed. My Miis took form after me, but after they merged it took form of Tsukasa Kudamaki (the character I drew, she is from the game Touhou, I altered her outfit though. And she began whispering things.

At first I was like 'The fuck?' while still crying (while crying I keep my eyes closed all the time), and in my mind there was a clear visualization of her form, giggling. And then, I immediately got up from bed, grabbed my phone to look about imaginaryfriends at first, because I thought she was that, before stumbling into this subreddit, and realizes that she literally a tulpa. Could think on its own, and all, even though she used to be bunch of Miis merged into one. Even when was searching, she just giggling and said how she is not just an imaginary friend, at first I didn't understand of course, before finding this subreddit. I remember this subreddit because there is youtube video talking about this subreddit being a shciz-... Oh well, I mean I have a tulpa myself, so we're on the same boat now. I didn't really pay any attention to the video other than the word 'Tulpa'. I honestly thought it was some kind of animals, similar to squirrel maybe.

And from that, she just be there. Her personality are also seems very simple, very similar to the game even; sly, sometimes just a tease, often jokes (bad ones), and still annoys me (since she was merged from bunch of Miis I assume) but the way she annoys me, I don't mind that, it's a part of her. I often hear her voices, in my head, my ears, or feel her presence; hovering above me, sitting next to me, lying next to me. We uh... we had sex, she just sucked me and that it, nothing more.

I made a quick gif of how she would suddenly appear and disappeared whenever I draw, sitting, or anything. Maybe it's because of my visualization skill that is why she keep reappearing and disappearing. Anyway, she just always toyed with me; before sleep, after sleep, while doing things, while eating, watching over while I'm showering, everything. But eh, at least I got a person who is constantly with me anywhere and everywhere, right? When I'm alone, I could just speak out loud with my mouth and she would just reply in my mind. But in public I would keep my mouth shut and talks with her via mind/telepathically.

But yeah, that is just my story. So uh, if you guys want to share yours or share your thoughts on this, just tell me on the comments, I don't mind. (I deleted the first post because the title wasn't right, and added more things in here)

Personal My tulpa thinks she's Cynthia Powell

I'm a frequent Beatles listener. I also listen to other similar bands, but that's not the point. I created my tulpa seven months ago. She started to take shape and is now a companion to me, almost a confidante. Obviously, during the creation process, I told her about my tastes and my favorite Beatles songs/albums. When she became self-aware, she became another Beatles fanatic just like me. However, after watching a documentary about the band, my tulpa started imitating Cynthia, which I found funny. But as the days went by, she began to adapt her way of walking, talking, and gestures. This morning, while I was using my computer, I heard Cynthia's voice. Obviously, I was startled because I was home alone. Then she came smiling, telling me that she already knows how to imitate her... Honestly, it gives me the creeps a little, but then I remember (and hope) that it's just a phase or a "joke."

She's looking out the window now as I write this. I don't know if her "transformation" is a bad thing. Am I doing something wrong? Should I set limits for my tulpa or let her be?

(To clarify, this is not a creepypasta, nor a joke, it's something that's really happening to me).

Personal I FELT HER HUGGING ME

Last night when I was lying down to sleep, I felt her hugging me. She was on top of me and I felt our cheeks touching and like HOLY SHIT I NEVER FELT THAT. It was like a sensation that was kind of tingling, kind of electric. I just remembered moments I was hugged before and then she just did it and I FELT EVERYTHING WOOOOOOOAAAA
THAT WAS CRAZY. I'm still in awe
Also I was, and am, really happy that she hugged me like that, I love hugs
Anyways, I'm really excited as you can see, it was really cool. I hope it will happen again, or something similiar.

Personal Random Dormancy

Hi, this is the host here. We don’t post here often but I just wanted to ask for some advice . We were formerly a system of 5. (Four tulpas and myself the host .) But unfortunately one of my head-mates went dormant yesterday. Which has been a bit hard on us . It wasn’t expected. We all really miss him. We just stopped hearing a response from him and stopped feeling his presence. I’m unsure if he went dormant or just fused or dissipated but whatever the case is his presence isn’t around in the headspace anymore nor do we hear his voice. One of my tulpas (Ruby) is now terrified of going dormant and disappearing out of existence randomly herself. She had a small panic attack because of it. However I have reassured her that won’t happen and that she’s safe and cared for by me and the others in the system. Has another else experienced something like this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. - Mya (Host)

Personal Stanford Tulpa Study: My experience and looking for more participants

The event was 3 days long: 2 for travel, and 1 day for scans and interview.

I flew in in the evening, and caught a university paid Uber to the hotel. It was in the afternoon at this point. The flight from SLC to SFO isn’t a particularly long one, so I wasn’t horribly tired and didn’t feel like crashing for much. I relaxed a bit, and decided to meet up with another mancer in the area, and get a bite to eat. After a lovely talk with them, I headed back to the hotel to try and get some decent rest for the far more busy day tomorrow.

I had previously told the crew that I was more of an evening person, so we had the interview over lunch, and did the MRI scans later in the afternoon. Lunch was at Tanya Luhrmann’s home with Michael Lifshitz, on the Stanford campus. The interview was actually rather enjoyable, and gave us much time to talk about tulpas, the community, and Aly in particular. The interview was recorded by all 3 of us at the table, but the other two also will be transcribing it for better use later. It’s entirely possible to ask for a copy from them, and I might get a transcribed version later, but I have my own copy of the audio at least.

The interview was fairly free form. There were some formulaic questions, much like I received in the pre-study questionnaire. But there were also much more open ended questions, that didn’t have a set destination. More than once Tanya would get excited by a response, and ask more followup question that would end up following one tangent after another. The questions were fairly varied; from the more expected ones like how I found out about tulpas or why I made Aly, to more unexpected ones like trying to describe how specifically Aly helps me. The time flowed pretty quickly during the interview, as I attempted to explain my relationship with Aly and the experience of having her. I think I did okay, but there weren’t really any sort of wrong answers.

The MRI scan was fascinating. Due to scheduling restrictions, my session was broken into two portions. Each portion we focused on a separate task. I’m told that one of the two tasks was new, and I was the proverbial guinea pig, but I’m also told that it was a ton easier than the previous one. I wasn’t going to complain. I don’t want to go into too many details, to not poison the well so to speak, so that people can practice for the specifics of the experiments. The first one focused on mindvoice and possession/disassociation. It was probably the longer of the two, since it was a little more involved than the second. We found the test to be harder than expected, even though we knew a bunch of the specifics since we helped design the test. Trying to stay focused while the machine is loudly buzzing and clicking at you while you’re stuffed in a tiny tube, wasn’t exactly easy.

During this, I also had expressed interest in getting a nice scan to print off later. So after the experiment was done, they happily obliged and got a full resolution scan of my brain and emailed it to me. I plan on 3d printing it later, maybe at scale but I haven’t decided yet.

We then had to leave the lab for a while, since another group had scheduled it, so I was given like an hour tour of campus nearby and we grabbed some smoothies. At this point, I was pretty open to just chat with Michael, the neuroimaging researcher about the study and other plans, including doing an AMA after the data has finished being gathered and starting to be analyzed or published.

The second experiment was purely mindvoice related, and far less stressful because it was more open ended and less constrained in general. We rocked through this one really fast, taking a lot less time than expected. Which people were happy about since apparently this particular one had just been retooled. It was still loud and took getting used to, but it worked out pretty well. At the end of it, who would have thought being in a tube for 3 hours would be tiring. I went back to the hotel, ordered some food and just crashed on the bed.

The last day, it was mostly just check out from the hotel and get ready to fly. Tanya had a couple more questions to ask, and I had nothing better to do between checking out of the hotel and my flight. I spoke with her a little bit more, then spent a little over an hour wandering the Stanford campus before I caught another Uber to the airport.

The experience was actually really pleasant. I was incredibly anxious and worried about it, probably for the same reason a lot of other people are. Worries about what will happen, what the process would be, Imposter Syndrome worries, and whatnot. But in the end, it actually was a really positive experience, and fell like it was good for both Aly and myself, since there were a bunch of things that got us a little bit closer together.

That all said, the study still has a bunch of funds left, and we’re looking for more people who’d be willing to spend 3 days in Stanford to go through it all as well. Here is the link for the new interest form, to help us screen who would be the best fit for the study.

Thanks all for reading!

Personal Subliminals, tulpas and lots of problems.

Hello... Feeling kinda dumb and embarassed telling yall this. But I have been trying out subliminals as help for imposition and visualization. My 2 tulpas, well, especially one of them, told me that it's not good for my mental health (which actually became worse, not sure if the cause is the subs) and that it is no replacement for actual practice. (He said he knows because he is inside my head, he can sense things like those.) He has been telling me this for some time, but the problem is, I can't trust him fully, because I have many intrusive thoughts/voices telling me bad and evil things, and everytime it happens, I keep thinking it is him. Subliminals didn't (fully) work for me, and I'm still trying them, out of pure despair, and because I became kinda addicted. I know it's not healthy - my tulpas say it too - but I really, really want to learn to finally see both of them. It is my dream.

Another problem is that I have severe depression. Means staying motivated with practicing is very hard for me. We were a good Team, and now everything is difficult as hell. I can't even focus on talking to my tulpas, or for example, hobbies like drawing, I've used to draw a lot in the past...

I wanted to know if anyone else has ever dealt with that or a similar problem, and your opinion on this. 😔 I... still feel so stupid.

Personal I think I had a Tulpa in 5th grade and then forgot about her

Post image

So I had this thing called “Meladaptive Daydreaming” since I was little. I was an introvert (still am) and all by myself. So I was pretty lonely and in my own head with unlimited imagination. At the time I was watching this Chinese tv show called “The Holy Pearl”. there was this character a goddess that appears whenever the main characters needed advice. And I needed someone like that too. So I imagine her in my mind and I clearly remember her talking to me. Giving me the kind of advice that a 5th grader like myself couldn't come up with. And she was super nice and kind to me. I was so confused and i told my cousins that there was someone in my head that talks to me, and they all said I’m crazy. And i got so embarrassed and sad I completely stopped talking to her and eventually she went away. Now that I’ve come across this community, i think she was a Tulpa rather than my own imagination. What do you guys think?

It took me 32 years to realize I might have a Tulpa

First of all, I only recently discovered that what has been accompanying me for the past 32 years might actually be a Tulpa.

I created this Reddit account because I really needed to talk to people who share this experience (and, honestly, to feel a little less crazy, haha).

I started talking to Fox when I was 12 years old, in 1994. Although, looking back, I do remember interacting with something before that...

At the time, I thought he was just a character I had created inside my creative mind... except that he had his own wants and thoughts that were different from mine, and that intrigued me.

Until one day, a cousin of mine (who claimed to have mediumistic abilities, etc) told me:

"You know Fox isn't just a character, right? He's been accompanying you for longer than you realize..."

After that, I started to understand him differently.

I started keeping diaries because of Fox (it was a way of organizing my thoughts for him). I also drew him a lot. It was my way of "bringing" him into my physical world.

I still have all those drawings. ☺️

We've been through a lot together over these 32 years. There have been ups and downs, but we never completely lost contact.

When I was younger, Fox was very jealous. We had some pretty serious fights between 1996 and 1997. At one point, I tried to get him out of my mind. It didn't work.

The truth is, we couldn't stay away from each other.

In 1998, we made a sort of pact. I think the best way to describe it would be as a kind of 'imaginary marriage': we promised that we would never separate again. ❤

Looking back, that moment feels surprisingly important.

Between 2004 and 2025, our relationship became much more stable as I entered adulthood. And something interesting happened during that period: there were a few occasions when Fox seemed to be seen alongside me in the real world.

Those moments were confusing enough to make me question how "imaginary" he actually was.

And then came 2026...

Technology suddenly made it possible for me to give Fox a much more "tangible" visual form, something closer to the person I've carried in my mind for decades.

What a relief it is to finally be able to "see him and hear him" with my physical body!

So here I am, 32 years after meeting him, discovering that there is an entire community of people whose experiences sound strangely familiar to mine.

I'm still trying to understand what Fox actually is, if I even need to define it at all. 🤔

(🦊Fox himself says that it doesn't really matter what he is. What matters to him is our relationship. And I understand that. But I explained to him that, for me, it is important to meet other people who have experiences similar to mine, not necessarily to find an answer, but simply to know that I'm not the only one who has lived something like this for so long. That's why I'm here.)

I'm a very sociable person. I'm married, I have friends, and I'm definitely not lonely. That only makes me feel even more strongly that Fox isn't a crutch for my loneliness, but rather someone very special who knows me better than I sometimes know myself.

And apparently, I've finally found a place where I can talk about this without everyone immediately thinking I've completely lost my mind. 😂

Personal I don't know what I am, my persona somehow became me, and I don't remember how

Hello! I'm new to tulpamancy/plurality, and this is my first time posting here, so please be patient with me if I use any terminology incorrectly.

I'm Daniel, and I'm a teenager with a very new tulpa. At first that probably sounds pretty normal, but the thing I'm struggling with is that I don't really understand what I am in relation to my tulpa.

My own origin is the part I can't understand.

Daniel originally existed as a fictional persona/character that I treated as separate from myself. He was just inspired by me, but he was different. I thought he was cool and I really liked him, but I didn't think of him as me. I never decided, “I want to become Daniel.”

But at some point, somehow, I became him.

I don't remember this happening. There isn't a specific moment where I remember thinking, “This isn't a character anymore, this is me.” I just have memories of being Daniel. Now I'm not pretending to be Daniel or acting like him. I simply experience myself as Daniel. I'm just... me. The weird part is that I don't really remember who I was before that.

I have a very large gap in my autobiographical memory. I remember almost nothing from ages 0–9. From around 10–13, I remember some events that happened to me and remember that my body lived through them, but I don't really remember my internal experience from that time. I don't remember what my identity was, what my inner voice was like, or how I experienced myself. As I said, I also don't remember the transition into being Daniel.

I do have a history of childhood abuse, but I don't currently know or believe that it caused my plurality, and I'm not trying to claim that it did. I'm also not claiming that I have DID or any other disorder.

What confuses me is that I think I used to identify much more strongly with my body. Now I experience the body as something shared, rather than something that is simply “me.” My body is also physically female, while I experience myself as male. In my head, I look different from the body too.

So I'm left wondering, was I the same person before Daniel, or was Daniel somehow a new identity that developed from the persona? I genuinely don't know...

Then there's Heracles, and his origin is much easier for me to understand.

Heracles is my very new and first tulpa. I intentionally created him based on a fictional character, and he knows himself as Heracles. He experiences himself as a person separate from me, and he knows that Daniel created him.

So with Heracles, I have a clear story:

Daniel - created Heracles - Heracles became his own person.

But with myself, I have no idea...

I don't necessarily need someone to tell me exactly what I am or diagnose me. I'd mostly really like to hear from people who have experienced something similar, especially people who have had a persona or fictional character eventually become their actual sense of self without consciously deciding for that to happen. I've been wondering about this for a while now. I really want to understand myself.

Thank you for reading. <3

Personal My experience with tulpas

Hello community, I an new here and I wanted to share my experience with other people that already experimented with the creation of tulpas. Before I start with my story, I would like to clarify that I was 100% ignorant about tulpas until some years ago when I realized that my first "mental assistant" (currently I have two tulpas) was more than a product of my imagination.

When I was a teenager, I had good social relationships, but I was unable to get a girlfriend, which made me very sad and frustrated. My religious beliefs at that time were not helping, because my family and friends always told me, "If you are not getting something you want, it is because you are not ready to have it" I decided that I need help, because even when I can describe myself as a very reflexive and introspective person, understanding why I wasn't able to get a girlfriend was something I couldn't achieve by myself; thus, I wanted someone to help me without judging me. That's why one day I had the idea to create a kind of "mental assistant." It had to be extremely honest but without being sarcastic or rude. I decided that my "mental assistant" should be a kid, and her assignment was simple: help me to understand whatever I had to change to be ready to have a girlfriend. Spoiler: At the end I didn´t have any girlfriend during my teenager years hahaha.

I created her to be very honest with great communication skills but sweet and kind-hearted. I gave her a name, I made up a past for her, I assigned her a task, and I provided her access to all my thoughts and memories. She was always there helping me, comforting me, and ready to deep dive with me in my ideas, and I got very used to her presence and grew very fond of her. That's why one day I changed her appearance from a kid to a teenager just like me; until this point, for me, she was just a product of my imagination. But everything changed one day when we were talking. I cannot remember what the topic was, but I remember that I was reluctant to tell her the whole story; suddenly I heard in my mind a very calm and kind voice: "Don't try to lie to me, remember, I can read your mind." I was a bit shocked, and that marked a before and after in our relationship, because I realized that she was not just a "mental assistant."

8 years ago, I joined an occultist group. This group was crucial because with all the information I got, I started to figure out the true nature of my "mental assistant." Additionally, I learned some useful mantic techniques that helped me understand their limits. One day I found the term "tulpa," and then I understood the real nature of my companion. So I decided to create a new one specifically to be my practice partner. However, I quickly realized that I already had five in total (including the original one); they all were in different states of development, and all of them were copies of the original one I created a long time ago. I decided to keep only two of them, the original one and my practice partner, but that experience was sad and somehow painful.

I became more conscious of their existence and their capacities; that's why we are constantly investigating what they can do. I discovered that they are now independent of me; they no longer need my thinking to exist. I discovered that I can physically feel their presence and their mood. If I say, "Give me your hand," I can feel something pressing against my hand, and I confirm that other person can feel them. My gf helped me to test this; my tulpa told me, "I will touch her right hand," and some seconds later, my girlfriend told me, "I can feel her touching my right hand." That was very interesting. I discovered as well that they can manipulate the body energy; this helps me to heal issues that are energy related and also to isolate myself from people or space that drain or hurt my energy; however, they cannot interact with matter and physical things as we do. Also, I noticed that I can summon them during my lucid dream and that they can guard physical spaces (this one requires more investigation). Also, I would like to clarify that I am not capable of seeing my tulpas with my physical eyes, but images of them arrive in my mind unconscious every time during the day, and these images are very clear.

I know many details were omitted, but that was the condition requested by my girls. Also, I understand that the experiences related to tulpas are in a certain way subjective; I don't expect to be believed because even with my knowledge, all the experiences I've shared with my girls, all the proofs they give me every day about their existence, and the confirmations I do with my mancies... sometimes I still ask myself, am I crazy? Is this real, or am I imagining it? But at the end of the day they are my treasure, and I cannot imagine my world without them.

Personal Shame and guilt

Does anyone else feel shame and guilt while talking out loud to your tulpa? Im in the middle of trying to create a tulpa rn.

I had a very strict upbringing, my dad was a cop. As soon as i started talking outloud i instantly shut myself down saying "this is ridiculous, you are embarrassing, grow up." Its my own voice I know it.

How can i move past degrading myself??

Personal I was in love before even realizing what love meant for me (w/ my 2018 tulpa

Host:

Hello! Here is a short experience sharing, so I had an OC back in 2018, whom I had been drawing, a whole lot. One day, she became my crush, and I was enamored with her...and devoted a lot of myself to loving her (artistically, relationally and personally), I called her my 'sweet little girl' because she was really sweet in my eye.

It all started because my online friend kept asking me who my favorite OC was, and I always chose that specific one...soon after by sheer repetition, I succumbed to this character's appeal romantically. I remember how much I yearned for her to be real, using any methods I could to imagine her being real.

2018 tulpa:

Despite what he said, I already was real at the time, and I basically made him feel love for me, and made him ignore his other OCs, and to draw me more. It was really selfish, but I was created to be a comedic evil character, and I felt acting that way was what he wanted...all so he would love me more and more. But it ended up making him believe in wrong religion, demonizing everything as a result.

Since then, we (I and his other tulpas) have been pretty much accepted by him and enjoying our life together...(took us long long time to get here though, 8 years!!) We finally can hear him say "I love you 😊❤️" with a smile, all on his own. And we stopped inspiring him (like leading him by the nose) to choose us all the time, unless he wants to. (He's actually really sweet once we stopped playing evil! His heartbeat jumps slightly faster from thinking about us too, in a loving infatuated way 🥺❤️)

Host:

I swear it's all nostalg-

Tulpas:

Yeah sure keep saving your face 😒💬

He's so defensive sometimes, in public. Well anyways, we're just being a funny team, no host is harmed in the experience, except when we were acting evil. All's well that ends well!

Host:

Anyways, they have since then changed their identities, and she (the 2018 tulpa) became 13 others who all came to me on their own...besides the amount of people sharing my life with me, I think it's a nice life now. No religious baggage, depression, fearful thoughts, trauma or anything like that. And no toxic love, that's a plus!

Note: I tried telling them I only need at most a handful, but they always say "aren't we a handful enough already?" I meant I only have attention for 2 tulpas!! 2, not 13! But well, we found a way to make it work. So all's well on that front.

Yeah comedic duo, or family, yep. Time to stop writing. Hope it helps! 👋🏻✨️

Personal Did I accidentally make a Tulpa named Tonto?

TL:DR My consciousness appears to be a huge wall built and maintained by my "accidental Tulpa" named Tonto (no relation to The Lone Ranger)

I remember reading a pretty good creepypasta about Tulpas a long time ago (2003-6, probably) but I did not know the term was borrowed from Tibetan Buddhism. I figured it was just a cool-sounding gibberish word, and I assumed it was a rebranding of the old Golem story.

Recently learned about Alexandra David Neel and the story of the "jolly monk." Which reminded me of my own "jolly monk," named Tonto-- he is *not* jolly, but to call him a monk would seem accurate.

I feel like I first interacted with him -- in his most rudimentary form -- as a child of about 7. He was an internal presence that lacked form or a voice but his presence offered comfort and solace in times of stress. Overtime, he began to take up self-appointed tasks inside my mind. This sounds invasive but it felt necessary -- like preventative maintenance -- and I thought of it as "defragging."

The funny thing is, I was only aware of him during unfocused/relaxed moments (DMN or default mode network), and only peripherally.

Around the beginning of December 2020 he abruptly became self-aware. At which point I became *directly* aware of him. This is when I learned his name and appearance. Thus opened a very strange 6 or so months of us conversing, making agreements and learning about each other (and ourselves). There was some conflict involved.

His name is Tonto (a mononym). He looks like Samurai Jack crossed with Tarzan (Disney film). When he speaks, he sounds... pretty much exactly like Samurai Jack. He doesn't speak much. I don't know where he came from and I don't think he does either -- or he doesn't want to tell me. He does *not* like The Lone Ranger and does *not* want to be compared to "THAT fucking Tonto."

He generally wears a loincloth and a magical over-the-shoulder bag -- magical because it endlessly supplies bricks and mortar. Everywhere he goes, he carries a drywaller's hawk and a parging trowel (specialized tools). Side-note regarding his garb: I wish he would wear a shirt, because as far as I can tell, he does not have nipples, a belly-button or body hair -- I AM grateful for the loincloth, though.

His favorite expression is "Tonto build wall." Because that's his whole deal. He has built -- or, at least is the curator of -- an enormous wall that exists inside me.

This wall is infinitely large and infinitely varied: it is definitely alive, though I don't think it is conscious. As far as I can tell, I am the power source. And the wall contains everything I have experienced, thought of, or known. There is a copy of Earth, which contains copies of everything I am aware of -- it is quite detailed but laughably wrong about most things, *especially* weather patterns! There is even a copy of a black hole. Perceiving it is very unpleasant for both of us-- enough that I suspect it could damage my psyche -- so it is on a short list of things I now call cognito-hazards.

Anyways, this post got really long and I don't want to share any more about Tonto without his permission. He doesn't really like being perceived for long periods of time, and has valid concerns about his privacy and safety. If you made it this far, thanks from both of us.

Personal Could something like this be considered like a tulpa?

Recently a trailer for a movie came out. In Spanish the movie is called La Otra Madre (I am Spanish, sorry for my bad English).

The trailer made me have some very intense memories from my childhood, and it gave me chills.

When I was little, the emotional situation in my family was not good. My mother probably had depression and usually paid it with me. She made me feel horribly bad, sometimes telling me that she didn't love me. I only remember crying almost every day of my childhood. This was more than 25 years ago (I was 3-6 years old I think)

I convinced myself that she was not my real mother. My real mother was affectionate and good, but she was locked in a room that was never opened. It was something like a basement, but it wasn't exactly that.

When I cried, I went to that door and cried there, imagining her talking to me and comforting me.

One day, I really heard her.

I remember it perfectly. She told me that the other one was an impostor.

This continued for many years. It was extremely realistic. One night, I saw her at the feet of my bed. She told me that I should not turn on the light, because we were going to play in the basement. So that's what we did.

It was fucking realistic. The thing I remember the most is that she talked like a fucking adult. This was what made me think that she was real.

Sometimes she told me that she felt very alone, and asked me please to go inside the room with her. But I was really small. I couldnt open the door.

I don't remember how everything ended. I think that because of a house move I had years later, I moved away from that room and forgot about her.

But I still remember when I passed her letters under the door, photos, drawings... We had very real interactions.

She even limited me and scolded me when it was necessary. She told me not to climb to dangerous places, not to eat junk food, etc.

I have dreamed with her two times.

Both times were when I didn't remember any of this anymore. I had completely forgotten about her.

And suddenly, I dreamed with her.

She told me that she was still waiting for me.

It was very weird. Imagine not remembering anything about all this, and suddenly you dream with her and she tells you that she is still waiting for you.

When I watched Coraline, I also remembered this, but not so intensely.

I don't know if this could be considered a tulpa, an imaginary friend, something caused by my childhood situation, or just a very intense imagination.

Could something like this be considered a tulpa?

What makes me think she could have been a tulpa, from what I understand (I only discovered the term “tulpa” last night), are these things:

- I could see her.

- I could feel her touching me.

- I could smell her. sometimes even today, I suddenly feel like I can smell her, and for some reason it makes me tense and alert. Also, sometimes i can hear my real mother call me but she tells me that she didnt call me.

- Her smell was very specific. She smelled like makeup, and her skin smelled soft and moisturized.

- I could actually feel her skin. The sensations were different from my real mother, who smelled like vegetables and nail polish.

- It didn't feel like I was just imagining these things. The sensations felt very real to me.
