Regarding "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss tips

Hey everyone,

We've noticed a recent uptick in posts asking for "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss advice. This subreddit exists as a space for healthy, sustainable weight loss discussions. Requests for "unhinged" advice clearly violate Rule 4 and undermine the purpose of our community.

We're fortunate to have a community that usually self-regulates these posts, and the majority of top responses tend to correct this mindset. As moderators, we prefer community-driven education rather than outright removal of posts. Unfortunately, there will always be a few bad actors willing to provide harmful advice in these threads.

Moving forward:

  • Posts requesting "unhinged" or extreme advice will no longer be tolerated. These posts will be removed and you risk being banned from the subreddit.
  • If you see a post like this, continue to educate and correct when appropriate, but also report the post so moderators can quickly handle it.
  • Anyone replying to these posts with actual "unhinged" or extreme advice, even as a "joke," will receive a permanent ban.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Is having any kind of sandwhich bread really that bad?

Is bread really that bad? Wheat, ,, and buttermilk white bread are the same calories from my store. 70. I like both and use both for different sandwiches or even to make garlic bread from the white kind.

I dont know how much I should care about macros, I'm on a severe calorie deficit.

But is it okay to have a decent sandwhich every other day?

I make all kinds. Most days I only hit 1200 calories as a 6'3" man that works construction. I try to stay heavy on protein for faster recovery on those harder days.

Progress 📈 Weight might not move, but inches tell a different story

I was a 60in bust, a 59in waist and 63in hips, in January.

I gained weight from an accident and now im back down to my start weight at the beginning of the year (in the 270s)

Yesterday I measured at a 48in bust, 51in waist and a 58in hips!

Ive dropped from a 26/28 torrid to a size 18! Same weight within 5lbs less or more.

Progress 📈 Playing the long game

• Upvotes

I’m posting to say how far I’ve come as I can’t believe I’ve got this.

Around May my health declined and I realised I hadn’t weighed myself in nearly ten years. I’m a 5 foot female and found myself being nearly 110kg. With a change in mind set, diet (two full meals and a small lunch for work), exercise three times a week (at the gym or at home if I couldn’t make it out), keeping my steps above 10000 five days a week and calorie counting, I’ve got down to 85kg. Still a bit to go as I want to get to around 70kg, which is the higher end of my normal bmi range, but this is the lightest I’ve been in years.

The question I want to know is what helped you out when trying to maintain the progress? I’m getting the usual days where I think I want to just be lazy but am fighting them. What’s helped you guys in this situation?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Short Girl Weight Loss Help!!

I am looking for some tips/advice/anything to help me lose body fat.

I am a 27 y/o female, 5’0”, 153 lbs. I have a short upper body and the fat holds in my belly and arms.

I have tried everything under the sun - eating cleaner, calorie deficit, intermittent fasting, cutting sugar, and I’m sure I’m missing some. I go to the gym 3-5 days a week working in strength training and cardio.

What else can I do that isn’t any weight loss drug related? I studied nutrition in college and my major was health science. I have even STUDIED the body and how it works and have tried to do everything that I’ve learned. I’m desperate at this point. I just want to feel healthy and good in my body, along with looking my best. My end goal is to gain muscle mass and lose the fat. I don’t want to just be thin, I want to be strong.

Any advice is appreciated, even if it’s absolutely bonkers :)

Discussion/Support 💬 I'm tired of trying I just want results

I'm almost 300 pounds and wanted to try and change i've spent 6 months at the gym this year, ate healthy, counted calories and fasted and got no results besides losing maybe 15 pounds and just small pathetic triceps. I ended up getting a new job that works nightshifts and I spend most of my days sleeping now and only using basic equipment at home. I'm exhausted from not seeing results or change I'm desperate for anything that can make me drop and lose weight as fast as possible.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Body Changes

I (f25) am 5'9. I was diagnosed with cancer 6 years ago, went through chemo, was in remission, re diagnosed, went through chemo, was in remission, got rediagnosed, got married, went through chemo again, and am now in remission again. My body has gone through more changes than I can count, including removal of an ovary, appendix, removal of abdominal tissue (like 6-pack muscle) and addition of biological mesh.

After the second diagnosis and chemo, I worked out to regain muscle mass and strength, and eventually weighed 155-160 lbs, and I felt so good in my own skin.

But after the third diagnosis, getting married and chemo, I gained 20 lbs within a month. I didn't usually keep up with my weight but when I go in for doctor's visits I can't help but notice changes. And most recently I was at 195.

I don't know where to start. I don't know if I'm just eating more, or if it's a soda intake thing, or if it's my depression meds (Lexapro and Aripiprazol). But I feel so heavy and sad about the way I look rn and idk what to do.

TLDR: help with deciding what caused weight gain--antidepressants, eating habits, soda, or something more?

Any help would be great.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Why does no one talk about the fatigue and constant pain?

Every time I have pursued a caloric cut of any kind, I find myself in horrible fatigue. I do nothing drastic. Today I had steak, potatoes, and vegetables for lunch with a side of berries. For dinner I had chicken and a spinach salad. I feel like I could vomit from my hunger.

My body is tense, I have headaches, and I begin seeing flashes of memory before my eyes. I have always suffered from mild anxiety, and I have only known my body to be burning fat when I need to increase my antidepressant dosage. At my thinnest, which was still technically an overweight BMI, I began dissociating.

I don't know how many other people experience intense pleasure in eating. Every time I am full of carbohydrates, I feel a profound wave of relaxation through my entire body. I feel my shoulders loosen and my legs lighten. I feel for a moment an ocean of beauty and calm. When I am pursuing weight loss deliberately, it never comes. I feel rigid and tight, everything edgy. Protracted cortisol spikes, perhaps? I can't stand it.

I feel myself in a constant state of lack, even with every "hack" at my disposal. Exercise is nothing but pain—no high, no pleasure, just a miserable getting on because it is "right" to do.

Perhaps this is my body's expurgation of its familiarity with fat. I don't know.

How do you stand it?

Discussion/Support 💬 Downsides of running more when eating a lot?

So I am on a calorie deficit and most days I am following it but sometimes I have a party or I just eat a lot of food so I run extra hours to burn the calories off. Does this actually work because I hear people say you can't outrun a bad diet but I don't eat like this every day either

Advice: Seeking ❓ Can I lose “skinnyfat” without strength training

When I was younger I was overweight and because of bullying I was desperate to become skinny, I lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time by significantly cutting down my calories. But even if my overall structure became slim, I still had a lot of body fat (in areas like under arms, stomach and thighs)

It’s been over 10 years and I’m still like that and to be honest I just want to get fit. I did some research a few months ago and I learned that it’s called skinny fat(?) and it’s because I didn’t do a body recomposition. But that involves strength training which I cannot do so I want wondering if people have advice on other ways I can help with this?

Over the past few months I’ve been eating better but still, just those pockets of fat in those areas won’t go away and it’s really frustrating.

For exercise I go on a 3-4km jog around my neighbourhood a few times a week and during work (5x a week) I average about 25k steps. I’m also an equestrian and ride about 2 hours a week on my days off

Advice: Seeking ❓ Advice needed!

I am a F 161cm and 52kg, my stomach is mostly flat however, I have a small bump towards my lower abdomen.
I've seen several videos online of people lacking that/having a completely flat stomach.

How would I go about getting rid of that? I've been to the gym for a couple months and it seems that's an incredibly stubborn bit.
Does anyone have any diets or anything they've used that's helped with the same issue or something similar?

Thanks!

Discussion/Support 💬 Putting serious effort in

Hi all! Im 34f, I have type 2 and pmos - weigh 252 at 5'6 and I've lost a total of 65lbs over the last 5 years. Very slowly, but have kept it off. I want to try and lose another 25lbs before the end of the year (i know that isnt much time, but i want to push myself) my ultimate goal is to get to 200/190. Currently im trying to stay away from High sugar and carbs, and I take a walk 3 to 5 times a week. Are there any exercises I can start incorporating to help remove more of my mid section and strengthen it?

I think im apple shaped, if that helps.

Id like to ideally start slower and build into it.

Appreciate any advice:]

Advice: Seeking ❓ How to cancel out food noise?

Hey so I’m a 22yo male at a healthy body weight but I do have some belly fat I wanna get rid off. I love eating healthy, I have no problem with it, the issue is with the amount I eat. All day I’m just thinking about food. In August just before my holiday I did get leaner and felt really good about myself but I did that through fasting which I didn’t really enjoy, I ended up gaining all the weight back after the holiday.

Advice: Seeking ❓ I’m young and my body is weird

I gained around 20 lbs last year due to depression, I’m honestly not quite sure how it happened since I don’t remember the year due to trauma. Either way I’ve been feeling miserable, mentally and physically. It’s my senior year and I want to complete my goal and loose some weight. I’m currently around 150 lbs and I would say I have a nice shape under all the fat which is mainly concentrated in my lower abdomen and high back area. My issue is I’m a very picky eater (also have food sensitivities) so I can’t do diets since there’s not much I like to eat and even the foods I do like irritate my stomach. I also cannot go to the gym because I’m still working through my anxiety and the same people who made fun of my body regularly attend the one I go to and it makes me uncomfortable. Honestly just looking for support and some realistic advice on how to loose at least 40 lbs, I’m very patient so I don’t mind the time it takes. I’m going on a self-recovery and discovery journey this year, I’m putting myself first before anything else and loosing weight is something that will greatly improve my quality of life.

Advice: Seeking ❓ is it too much ???

hello !!! I (24F) have also been on the thinner side but gained weight a year or so back due to severe autoimmune issues. I gained almost 50lb but now due to correct treatment have been slowly losing it (I still find it hard to exercise but try to as much as I can weekly!!!) I started at 157lb and now im 148lb, and I want to get back to my original weight (about 110lb) but my family is advising me not to (im about 5’6) and saying it’s too much, but I never had any issues while at that weight (was always healthy, ate normally) but I guess growing fully into my adult body I just want some advice, and for people who been through similar as me: how patient do I have to be? I’ve never gone through this before and sometimes can feel discouraged

Discussion/Support 💬 Stalled at 201 for a month

I'm 5'5", 31, F (highest weight was 217)

I eat 1600 to 1800 cals a day. Try to get 100+ grams of protein per day. Lift weights 3-4x per week.

I initially lost about 10lbs in 2 months and now it's been a month with no changes on the scale.

Looking for advice or encouragement. I haven't had any 'cheat' or binge days... Just feeling discouraged!

Advice: Seeking ❓ No weight loss despite sizeable deficit

I’ve lost 65 pounds in five months and it was all mostly from diet and I have around 25 left to reach my goal. Around a month ago my progress started to slow as I stopped dropping 2 or 3 pounds a week to 1 lb for a few weeks. I then started walking a lot more. I walked for around an hour for 5 days a week to begin with then upped it to an hour and a half a day for five days and I kept my diet the same. I’ve been walking for 4 weeks and over the first three weeks I lost 3 pounds, 2 pounds and 3 pounds again. This week however I lost nothing and it has sent me into a bit of a spiral. I haven’t lost anything in 8 days. I know that might not be a big deal, but to me it is and I guess I don’t understand why I lost nothing despite being in an 11K calorie deficit. Is there anything I should be doing differently?

Check-in / Accountability 🗓️ Anyone wanna be friends?

I (22F) feel like I desperately need an friend that's in the same boat as me, or has been....anyone wanna be gym-pals / accountability partners?

I'm 162cm and 85,75kg and am trying so hard to lock in. Especially in this 'winter-arc.' But I genuinely feel like I can't do this on my 'own'. Especially the deficit side of this journey.

Advice: Seeking ❓ First cut advice

Hello everyone, I'm a 20 y/o 6'1 male who's been pretty active throughout most of high school between football and wrestling, but college workload means I've been stuck with only half an hour of walking every day.

I'm trying to cut down from 235ish to the 180s, been doing meal prep, etc, the whole nine yards. Generally, would 1550 calories be a reasonable goal to hit? I've been hovering around there this past week and I haven't noticed a terrible amount of fatigue or anything.

ChatGPT says 1800 is more healthy but a calorie tracker says 1550, thought I might check in with y'all.

(P.S: Any other weight loss tips I should know? One of my friends told me the celery snack hack, but I'm always happy to hear more)

24F start weight: 185 - Goal weight 135

Its only been 3 weeks, but im feeling amazing. Ive gone from 185 to 177, on a caloric deficit. I use to think “oh that stuff is fake” because i was told some
people CANNOT lose weight no matter what they do because of health issues etc.

I was skeptic, but down 7-8 pounds since i started…counting calories is so hard and i struggled so bad because im a high volume binge eater. I realized i could still eat alot, it just had to fit into my caloric range, and be low cal. Cucumbers have been god sent. Does anyone have any low cal high volume recipies? (People say protein keeps you full longer thats why ive seen so many high protein meals lately im guessing)
