I've pulled the trigger and installed the SteamOS on my ROG Xbox Ally X. It seems evertyhing that everything works smoothly. However, I had encountered a small issue, the screen was flickering (VRR mode). I had to re-enabling it together with the hardware acceleration (desktop mode) and then the screen was back to normal again.

I need to do some further testing but till now, it really works great on the ROG handheld devices.

i joined the XAX Club with a 700 Euro Deal. Its a nice device, but the Screen is horrible. I want to Play in my Break outside, ITs cloudy and Not Sunny atm but i cant See bearly anything. I Changed in the Windows setting the individual brightness but its still too dark. Any Tips?

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same, but I bought a ROG Xbox Ally X for around $1,000, and I barely use it.
Before I bought it, I had all these ideas in my head. I thought I’d be playing in bed, on the couch, whenever I had free time, and I’d probably end up using it more than my laptop. But that’s not what happened.
I work 8-hour afternoon shifts, and when I get home I almost always grab my laptop instead. I also have a PS5 and a Meta Quest that I use every now and then, but the Ally X mostly just sits there. It’s weird because I really like the device, but I feel like I was more excited about owning it than actually using it.
I’m curious if anyone else went through the same thing. Did you eventually find a way to make it part of your daily routine? Were there any games that completely changed how often you used it? Or maybe there are things you do with it that I haven’t even thought about.
I’d love to hear your experiences because I really want to get more use out of it instead of letting it collect dust.

​A little over a month ago, I managed to pick up this beauty. A friend sold it to me super cheap—he bought it at launch but never actually used it, so it’s basically brand new.

​I exclusively use Steam since that's where my entire library is. Right now, I have it configured to boot straight into Big Picture Mode, which is fairly comfortable, but Windows always finds a way to introduce annoying quirks and bugs.

​To give a bit of context, I used to own a Steam Deck before this. I ended up selling it (which I heavily regret now!), but I really miss how seamless and effortless the SteamOS experience was. I don't use this device for anything other than gaming, so Windows feels like unnecessary bloat for my use case.

​For those who have made the jump to SteamOS (or Bazzite) on the Ally X, is it worth it? How has your experience been so far? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hey everyone, just got my rog ally xbox and would like some help. I saw some reviews saying that he works better with steamOS. Besides that, I’m also more familiar with steam than xbox interface, so I’m thinking about doing a dual boot.

Also, would I still be able to use google chrome, word, discord and all of those stuff?

Has anyone ever done this? Any opinions? Suggestions? I’m not a pro with tech stuff but there’s nothing some yt videos and AI can’t help me

I really want to get the ally x 20 but i have the legion go 2 msi claw 8 ex ai steam deck oled and switch 2. I was thinking I could get the x20 for fps games since the analog sticks have more resistance due to tmr sticks, use the claw 8 ex ai for really demanding non fps games, and the legion go 2 for expansive colorful games?

I'll be honest im a huge asus fan boy and aside from its processor it has oled, best d pad, best triggers, best software. That is what is compelling me to get it....

However, I really dont know if I want to go down to z2e. Supposedly, the predator atlas 8 by acer will have similar sticks to the ally x20 but wont have 30 hz vrr only 48 hz, lcd not oled, and missing micro sd express. But it would have 8 in over 7.4 and g3e processor.

What do you guys think? Worried about it selling out as well.

Also I considered oxp but am not comfortable as of now with the RMA and shipping times.

Ally x20 for fps competitive shooters or games that need more precision. Borderlands 4 battlefield 6 marvel tokon for the dpad for fighters

This device is great don’t get me wrong but I just don’t need it anymore I like playing on it, I just bought a powerful desktop an I have a ps5 pro I was using the Xbox ally x for when I’m in bed or just sitting on the couch sometimes should I keep it I noticed, though every time I get rid of something they come out with a new update

or firmware to make it better or if the price go up, I don’t wanna regret selling it what would you do?

I want to buy a handheld console. The only one on my mind is the Xbox Rog Ally X, but there's something that's making me hesitate. The upcoming Xbox ROG Ally X20. It has both a larger screen and an OLED display. Actually, OLED isn't that important to me, but the fact that its screen is slightly larger is what's tempting me. What do you think??

I bought a Bulwark 7-1 dock and tried hooking it up to my Ally X20, it kinda sucks. For one, how do you control it while docked?? I have to bend down to use it while it’s on my TV stand. Where do people put it??

I bought the X20 to be used as a handheld so docking it seems like a waste of money and time. But…Everyone else seems to be using one. Idk…

I really want to get the base model Rog Xbox ally and I have watched videos on it seems like it can run everything in good fps while some games need to lower settings to achieve good frame rates. I'm in Canada and it's like 750 ish brand new. I had my heart on it but I keep seeing people saying they regret it or just get this or that. people WHO OWN IT what has been your experience ? are you happy with it yes or no and why ? thank you.

Extremely happy with it, love everything about the XAX. My question for other who’ve done this, how long did it took you to get used to the smaller, none Oled screen? That’s my only gripe with it and I’m sure I’ll get used to it the further I’m away from using the deck, but man! It’s a bit rough right now.

Had an hour of free time from my family commitments to play so i decided to pick it up and play some games but have been on this update loop for a good 40mins or so. I eventually had only 10mins to play. What the actual hell, Microsoft…

I just got the ally x unboxed, i wanna install steamOS ,but ive heard there are some issues so should i get bazzite or steamOS(i dont like windows nor care for online games on this thing) ive seen random control loss issues on steamOS and speaker issues on bazzite, can someone tell me which one is the best one right now?

This is for the rog ally Xbox X What are you all thoughts on this? I looked at the 5090 2400 is too much for me for a egpu if it was 17 or 1800 I would buy it do you think this 5070 egpu would be good enough? I have half of mind to buy it rn !

Hi guys, long-time lurker of this subreddit. I’m like 99.9% going to buy it, but I just don’t know if it’s worth it for what I want to do.I came from the PS Portal and sold it a few months ago because I mainly play online games like Call of Duty/WZ, 2K, Madden, GTA 6 when it releases, and eventually some old emulation games, which I know can be done on the Ally X.

The other thing is, I don’t want to switch everything over to Xbox yet because I don’t know how those games will perform online the best and I’ve been Sony all my life . I’ve watched videos of people remote playing their PlayStation 5, but is it really that good?

I just had a bad experience with the PS Portal. Online games sucked, and that’s the main reason I sold it, especially because I travel for work a lot.

If I have to make the switch to Xbox and you’re telling me it would solve all the problems, great, I’ll do it. Maybe I’m just overthinking it?

Also, has anyone bought an open-box one from Best Buy? How has it been?

Was playing normally when the thumbstick broke. Now trying to contact Asus support to see if this will be covered under warranty. Is this normal? Never happened on my other controllers and this is my first handheld.

Edit: It's the left thumbstick. My bad. Just woke up lol.

Edit 2: Asus told me it is CID (Customer Induced Damage) so it will not be covered under warranty. Looks like I have to go the DIY route. Might as well upgrade to TMR sticks. First time for everything i guess.

Was watching Joey’s Retro Handheld stream and he mentioned something similar but I find my left trigger has a very minor “stickiness” to it for lack of a better term. Thats to say when I press it, it has a sensation that it is unsticking from the shell whereas the right trigger feels completely smooth. I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Wondering if it might be something that improves with use.

EDIT: I ended up exchanging mine since I had a slight screen defect as well and the new one doesn’t have the issue. That said u/Historical-Internal3 posted a fix they did that resolved the issue. It looks like there is some adhesive inside the trigger mechanism that, if misaligned, can cause the “sticky” feeling. The fix itself seems pretty straightforward but also entails opening the device up. Likely this might get better overtime as that adhesive wears away with use.
