Is this normal?
First I would like to apologize for my bad English. My cat has just been spayed. She keeps twitching and her mouth opens wide. Any advice?

Hi all! L
My 7 pound, 5 year old, spayed cat had a tiny bit of garlic sauce from my plate. I saw exactly how much the spot had, and I would assume (using a kitchen scale and a rough approximation) that she ate less than tenth of a gram of sauce, so I’m probably being over concerned. (It was a drop of sauce smaller than the tip of my pink finger)
What should I look out for/am I underestimating how concerned I should be?
Using the same size of drop of sauce, 20x the amount still doesn’t register a gram on the kitchen scale.

I noticed this on my dog yesterday. Does anyone know what this could be? Has anyone experienced a similar case with their dog? It is placed on top right on his anus

I guess I will just get right into it. My husband and I have 2 dogs. My husband has had our rescue pit bull mix for about 8 years (we’ve been together for 4 years) When he adopted him, he was estimated to be 6-7 years old. He is estimated to be 14 years old now and in the last few months he has been deteriorating quite a bit. He has his moments of energy but we especially see it at night. You can hear his extremely labored breathing from 2 rooms away. He almost seems to have sleep apnea and there’s been a few nights we’ve stayed up worrying about him passing. He has frequent coughing/hacking fits (not while eating, just at random times) that last several minutes. These occur at least twice a day, some days more. He spends most of the day and night sleeping. He has developed visible cataracts. He has been nipping at peoples hands thinking they have food, runs into doors, seems to almost be “lost” and unaware when he is up and moving around. Some nights he needs help getting around. We’ve owned him and loved him more than long enough to see the blatant changes in behavior and family had as well. We made the hard decision to make an appointment to euthanize him. Since we moved to a new area, we called a nearby vet to set up the appointment. They asked if we wanted to do a quality of life exam or if we were decided. I said that we were decided as we didn’t want his last day to be his worst day. Scheduled the appointment and spent the past week coming to terms with our decision, crying and mentally preparing.
He spent the day sleeping prior to the appointment and we took him to Dunkin’ to get hashbrowns. We get to the appointment and being that we’re in a new place with lots of smells he is spry and sniffing around. He was doing the best that he’s done in a while. We mention that to the tech and she said yeah, it’s normal, it’s probably adrenaline. The tech was super sweet and takes us into the room. She tells us that since he hasn’t been seen there before they will do an exam. The vet comes in and immediately becomes what we felt was passive aggressive. We relay all of this information of what’s been going on. She spent the 5 minutes she was in there side eyeing us. She listened to his heart and lungs and said it all sounds “perfect” and says “Im not trying to judge you guys but I don’t see a reason to put him down” and then said she wanted to do xrays and blood work and we can talk about options to extend his life. We were caught off guard because extend it by what? A few months? From all that we’ve researched, the lifespan is 10-15 years. This wasn’t a decision we took lightly. She also waved her hand in front of his head and of course his head moved because he could sense it being there. She said in a tone “looks like he can see perfectly fine to me.” and “I mean I can put him down if you guys really want me to but I don’t see any reason to.”
We requested a moment alone to discuss and they left the room.
We had already felt horrible because obviously no one wants to put their dog down. We felt like they were playing on our emotions to try and sell us services. We decide that we didn’t feel comfortable with this clinic. They charged us $88 for the 5 minutes the vet “looked” at him.
Also when checking in, they asked us if we wanted his paw print stamped on paper which we thought was sweet and said yes, figuring it was maybe like $10. Obviously we didn’t get that far, as we ended up not going through with it. Later we looked at reviews to see someone say that they charged $150 for the stamp without disclosing the price prior to putting his dog down.
Are we crazy or is this normal? The vet made us feel like we couldn’t possibly know our dog. We feel kind of gaslit and confused.

I live in the UK (NI) in an underpopulated area and I have 2 cats so they normally go outside around 6-7pm everynight and they’re never had any major issues (Occasional fights with cats but that’s it).
This morning I noticed when I brought her in that about 5-6 inches of her tail has been degloved. She has no other injuries other than the degloving. The was blood outside, but by the time I saw her it’s mostly clotted already.
But the main issue now is that it’s a Sunday and no vets around me are open. I called a few emergency vets and they either said that I live too far or give me an insane price to only look at her, and then even more to treat her, and I cannot afford that right now. Really my only option is to wait till tomorrow morning and bring her to my local one.
I’m not sure if there’s anything I can, or should do for her until then. One vet said I should clean and dress the wound till tomorrow but I have no idea how exactly to do that or what I can and cannot use, and they didn’t tell me!
Does anybody have any advice on where I should go, or what I should do, or what resources I should look at, cuz I frankly have no idea whatsoever. I don’t even know if it’s considered an emergency or not, or what they would most likely do to her tail.

Hello, I'm coming to ask for help, I have around a 5 year old cat who I've had since he was an infant and I plan on moving out of my abusive household without them knowing. The problem is I don't have a job due to my own medical problems nor do I currently have a car and I cannot ask them to take him to the vet or have his medical records, they aren't even recent as i'm pretty sure the last time he went to the vet he was a kitten. I plan on taking a plane up to where I plan on moving but everything I read says I need his medical records and I do not know how to retrieve them nor do I have a proper carrier for him except for the old plastic one the shelter gave the family for the other cats.
I’m currently staying with my sister, and between us, we have 6 kittens that all hang out together, so it took us until last night to figure out who the vomiter was, as they were doing it in the cat room, when nobody was watching. Olive is 18.5 weeks old, and I’ve had her, and her sister for just under 3 weeks. We noticed about a week or so ago, one of them was vomiting, it’s not a lot, and it’s only once every few days. We haven’t really noticed a pattern to it, it’s not always been after a meal or anything like that. Aside from these random vomiting episodes, she’s perfectly healthy, still playing, still cuddling, still drinking, still happy being around the other kittens etc. shes picky with her food, but has been like that since we got her, and won’t always finish a meal, so I’m thinking of potentially switching her food, though she seems to be have a good body condition, not visibly underweight etc.
She has been flea treated, wormed (both due again around next week,) and is booked in on the 29th for her first vaccinations. Is this something that can wait to be brought up during her first appointment given her behaviour hasn’t changed in anyway since the vomiting started? Or could it possibly be something serious, despite no changes in her personality and behaviour?

I have a 2 year old, 3 kg male maltipoo, since I got him he had stomach issues, I always thought he was just spoiled and didn’t want to eat because he didn’t like the food. Last year he got giardia and was on antibiotics and I mentioned to the vet that he won’t eat enough, the vet suggested further investigation and we got a ultrasound scan, it was normal, the only thing he said looked a bit weird was his pancreas because it was a little inflamed, but he blamed it on the antibiotics from when he had giardia. Fast forward i went again to the vets and they recommended pantoprazole. While taking this he began eating like i have never seen him before, he would finish his breakfast (which almost never happened before). When I saw he was doing better and I stopped giving him the medicine because (his treatment was over) he started not eating again, sometimes shaking and I could just tell that his stomach was bothering him even tho he did not throw up or anything like that. On Wednesday he has an appointment for an endoscopy, I am scared for him to go under and I wanted to ask for some advice, will the endoscopy find out what’s wrong with him?
Also I forgot to mention, it happened once but it made me realize that something must be really wrong, we were out on a walk and I noticed he was in pain so I touched him stomach and he started screaming in pain. ( That is when we started the pantoprazole treatment)

Our gorgeous 15-year-old boy has been through a really tough time over the last few months. At the end of May, he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the early stages of heart failure. The vet also noticed a small mass in his lung, but the priority at that point was to get his heart condition under control. In June, we sadly lost his sister to stomach cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes and lungs. She'd previously been misdiagnosed with asthma by our old vets. That's a long story I won't go into, but it's been a really difficult time for us.
Then, in August, he developed a blood clot in his right front paw, so we rushed him to the vets. He stayed overnight while they carried out multiple tests, and they discovered that the mass in his lung had doubled in size over those few months. A biopsy confirmed that it was cancerous. This was at the end of August, and we were told he could have anywhere from 2–6 months. He's still with us at the moment, and we're taking things day by day.
He's currently on 10mg of steroids once a day, a quarter of a furosemide tablet twice a day, Thyronorm 2.5mg twice a day, and 18.5mg of clopidogrel every other day.
Thankfully, his breathing hasn't noticeably changed so far. There is some protrusion on his left side, near his ribs, which is also the side where his tumour is, although I'm not sure whether the two are connected. He's still eating his treats and even gobbled up a fair few pieces of stewing beef yesterday! He absolutely loves butter and cries for it multiple times a day, although he doesn't get it every time he asks, much to his disappointment but he has started only nibbling at his actual food.
We know our time with him is limited, but we don't really know what to expect as things progress, what changes to look out for and how to keep him as comfortable and happy as possible.
He's the last of our babies. We still have his mum, thankfully, but he's the last of his siblings who were actually born in this house, and that makes this all the harder.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice about my 5–6-month-old kitten, who has been struggling with diarrhea for months.
He has been diagnosed with feline panleukopenia and has already been hospitalized. At one point, his condition was serious, but he has since improved significantly. Right now, his only remaining symptom is persistent diarrhea. His stools are either completely liquid or very soft and pasty, and they never seem to return to normal.
Apart from the diarrhea, he seems completely fine. He eats well, plays, is very active, and behaves like a normal kitten.
He has already undergone several tests, including blood work, an ultrasound, and tests for parasites. He previously tested positive for coccidia and received treatment. He has also tried different medications, probiotics, and different diets, but the diarrhea continues. Despite everything we've tried, this problem has been going on for months.
I'm really worried because I don't know what else I can do to help him.
Has anyone experienced anything similar with a kitten recovering from panleukopenia? Could the diarrhea be a lingering effect of the disease, or could there be another underlying cause that we haven't identified yet?
What other tests, treatments, or approaches would you discuss with a veterinarian in this situation?
I know that online advice cannot replace a veterinary examination, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar or from veterinary professionals who might have some insight.
Thank you! ❤️

Dear Reddit,
I noticed a small, crusty skin lesion on the back of my cat’s head a few days ago while petting him. The area felt dry, like a scab, and did not appear to be wet. My cat does not seem to scratch or irritate the area, and he is otherwise behaving normally.
Initially, the lesion seemed to be getting smaller. However, upon checking again, I noticed what appears to be a second small lesion very close to the first one. Both areas are reddish and crusty, but the fur is still mostly present. When part of the first scab came loose, some hairs came away with it.
My cat is strictly an indoor cat and does not have contact with other animals.
I have attached photos of the affected areas. Could you please advise whether he should be examined and whether this could be caused by a skin infection, such as ringworm, or another skin condition?
Thank you for your help.

There’s a pond near where I live, lot of ducks that are well acclimated to people. One of them has the end of its upper bill broken off, you can see its tongue resting on the lower bill. It seems to have been like this a while. Does this warrant a call to anyone?

Our dog (5.5y/o) has increased calcium and low platelets with no diagnosis. According to our internal medicine specialist, we’ve done the full diagnostic work up we can do (full body CT, X-rays, liver/spleen/bone marrow aspirates, negative for Addison’s, thyroid issues, fungal infections, etc).
We’ve been told this is cancer until proven otherwise, likely lymphoma. But with no physical evidence of it, any treatment would be pretty experimental. She’s been on prednisone for about a week with no changes to her lab work or symptoms. She’s just slowed down. Not interested in her toys, in her food, etc.
We’re taking her in this week to do some of the experimental treatment the specialist suggested - some l-aspar/other chemo drugs and a cocktail of things to lower her calcium.
My concern is that at this point, without an official diagnosis, any chemo drugs could make things worse. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, but her quality of life is significantly decreased. Am I wrong in thinking we should wait on treatment to see if anything changes diagnostically?

My dog is a 3ish year old husky. Physically happy and healthy. Also I make sure she isn't stressed. The only stress she feels is when I brush her teeth.
But recently she's been whining and crying and growling in her sleep. And when I touch her to wake her up she wakes up looking terrified with her hair on end. I can only assume it's a nightmare. Why is this? Is this indicative of a health issue?

Two weeks ago my husband and I rushed my 3 month old not-spayed kitten to the vet with what we thought was a seizure. We have since been in contact with that vet and an emergency vet. Both initially thought it was poisoning from permethrin that our landlords had used for pest control in our house a few days prior to the first episode. However, the symptoms should have only lasted a week with the methocarbamol and midazolam we had been giving her. She went 4+ days this past week with no episodes, but they have since started back as of Friday afternoon. We’ve spent so much at both vets already and are having to wait until another paycheck hits before we can take her back, so any advice is helpful. We have mopped up everywhere the pest control guy sprayed (just our maintenance guy, not a professional), made sure she’s eating and drinking plenty of water, and can’t think of anything else it may be. There is still the idea that they are seizures, but she doesn’t always fit all the symptoms and only occasionally loses control of her bowels during an episode. A video of one of the episodes is on my profile. They are not as bad any more.

My cat has a small constant drip from her right eye/nostril (clear fluids, both of them) L-lysine suppliments help a lot and I try to gently wipe below the eye and nose with a saline soaked tissure to keep from a buildup forming. However, sometimes a crust forms, is there a safe salve I can use that can sit on the crust for a bit to soften it so that it is easier to remove?
Cat, female/spayed, 13yrs old (approx), Feline Herpesvirus1, eye/nose discharge for about 3 years, overweight, located AZ USA
Edit to say that I thought about using petroleum jelly, but I won't use it unless I'm told it is safe. I also considered Aquaphor (first listed ingredients: Octyldodecanol, C18-38 Alkyl Hydroxystearoyl Stearate, Castor Seed Oil, Capryli Triglyceride, Glycerin, eleven other ingredients follow, not including water)

My 2 year old pup was diagnosed at the vet with a CCL sprain/very mild partial tear. They didn’t do ortho X-rays as he can still bear weight when walking but locks up his leg a bit to not make the full rotation, had lifted up the paw when he was running. The vet has us monitoring and doing at home PT (mainly the PROM bicycle which he hates and fights) and joint supplements hoping to build up the muscle and manage the scar tissue sites enough to stabilize the joint more.
I know most CCL injuries require surgery (which was never on the table but I’m not against if it’s necessary) and so I’m not finding much on prognosis, timelines, etc for the nonsurgical approach unless the dog is elderly. Does anyone have any experience with young dogs going the nonsurgical route and could share what that can look like?

I have a 1-year-and-7-month-old, 7 lb female cat who was diagnosed with feline lower urinary tract disease today. The first veterinarian prescribed phenazopyridine (1/4 of a tablet every 24 hours, so 25mg), and I gave her the first dose today at 3 p.m.
Later, while searching for ways to remove the orange stains from her fur, I discovered that phenazopyridine is highly toxic to cats and should not be used in them. I was horrified and immediately sought a second veterinary opinion.
At 6 p.m., I took her to another veterinarian, who instructed me to discontinue the previous medication and administer activated charcoal (500 mg every 12 hours). We also have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for a complete blood count (CBC) and further monitoring.
So far, she seems to be doing well. She is calm, breathing normally, eating as usual, and behaving like herself. She hasn't vomited, although she hasn't been drinking as much water as usual. I haven't noticed any obvious warning signs, such as ataxia, pain, lethargy, seizures, or pale gums.
I'm terrified because everything I've read online says phenazopyridine can be fatal to cats. I feel incredibly guilty for trusting the first veterinarian and giving her this medication without researching it first. I never imagined that a medication prescribed by a vet could be so dangerous for her.
I just want to know if a full recovery is possible, I'm extremely worried about her and would be grateful for any experiences or advice. Thank you so much!

To sum it up, I have a 9-week-old chihuahua. The breeder took him to the vet and somehow only got him half a vaccine shot. She does this with all her dogs, but I’m confused because it’s not legal here, and I don’t think it’s legal where she lives either. We took him to the vet the day after we got him, and they said he looks great. I was discussing his next vaccines, ( to note I did have the paper from her vet she used, it shows half, I was debating to call which as I’m writing this I probably should), and they mentioned that giving half a shot isn’t legal and that all dogs have the same size immune system, not based on weight. I agree with that, but I’m still confused. I messaged the breeder, who is a sweet lady and very careful with her dogs. She explained that they give dogs from 1 to 80+ lbs the same size vaccine, which is why she gives her pups half a shot. This really confuses me. I’m curious, since he got that half shot on the 5th, does it not count? I really want him vaccinated. I’m worried about a reaction, but I don’t think that’s common, plus he already had that half shot. Is it too soon to give him the next full shot on Monday? And will that be his “first” vaccination out of the three? Since the half shot doesn’t count? That’s what the vet said I just need some reassurance, it’s an odd situation

CDS put a super sweet, very skinny orange baby in the road in front of me. Immediately went to vet, and she thinks he has hyperthyroidism, but waited on labs pending seeing if anyone claimed him from our “found” posts online. Will be getting labs in a couple days, but in the meantime, he thinks he is starving all the time with the 3 cans a day she recommended. Wondering if dry food might be more filling? Or does he just need more of whatever type? Should he be getting more calories than usual? He just seems so hungry (and vocal about it) all the time.
