Support My girlfriend of 2+ years abandoned me because of my condition. (looking for advice)

• Upvotes

For the background I used to be a healthy person, and I exercised regularly for the past 8 years. Then one day I had unexplained fatigue and tachycardia after exercise(it was just different and I could feel something was wrong), rushed to the ER and all tests came back normal. After the same thing happened for the third time from just walking my hr shot from 100 to 150, I got really scared and thought something was happening to my heart. Since that day I can't function. Any slight physical activity like cooking or walking shoots my HR up. It is the worst in the morning, some morning are so bad I can't walk, I need to sit down, and some mornings my HR does not shoot up that high. However I feel very weak and can't tolerate physical activity, and I know if I try to exercise I will feel so sick that I am even afraid to try. I feel like my body has betrayed me. All this diet and exercise that I have been doing for years to stay healthy was useless. It has been going on for almost a month now.

This took mental toll on me. Prior to that I had health anxiety but nothing ever like this happened so I do not think it is anxiety. I know my body and I can feel something is happening. Multiple cardiologists told me there is nothing wrong with my heart and their conclusion was "autonomic dysfunction" or "exaggerated sympathetic system response". (because I did a stress test 7 days before the third tachycardia episode and the symptoms onset, after that I had echo and holter). This entire thing made me super anxious. I saw 5 different cardiologists and 3 different psychologists. I am also tired of going to the hospital multiple times a week.

So now I am depressed, I lost 2-3kg of weight, I can't work on my research and I constantly try to read and find the cause / solution. My girlfriend said my ER visits and anxiety give her a lot of pressure and she is tired of it. She also says she does not know how to support me. She told me she would want to stop communicating for a while. It is the third day of no contact and I really miss her, putting this on top of what I am dealing with is destroying me and I literally see no escape. I am not playing a victim but I feel like she left me in the time when I needed her the most, so I do not know what to think about it.

Discussion Where are people going for treatment?

I'm from Wisconsin - due to ongoing issues I have wanted to investigate dysautonomia/small fiber neuropathy further. Saw a neuromuscular neurologist at one of the leading university hospitals in my state back in May who talked me out of getting a skin biopsy because he said he would treat my symptoms the same whether or not the results came back positive for SFN. And for further testing I would have to go somewhere else as their dysautonomia clinic had been shut down.

I asked my pain management doctor last week for a referral to Mayo or Cleveland Clinic as these seem to be some of the main places people go for dysautonomia. She said lately Mayo has been rejecting every patient she has referred, so she would send one to Cleveland Clinic. Called Cleveland Clinic today to be told they are not accepting patients with a dysautonomia diagnosis right now. I asked if there was a wait-list or anything, and was told the same thing - sorry, they won't take me.

Has anyone been able to get into Mayo, or know of another place I could ask to be referred to?

Support I’m new to this and I have almost no idea what I’m doing

I got diagnosed like two months ago. Here are my symptoms:

- Orthostatic hypotension when changing positions
- Wild and scary blood pressure crashes out of nowhere
- Coathanger pain
- Can’t stand in place for too long
- Exercise intolerant
- Tachychardia

What I’m doing:

- Compression socks
- Beta blocker
- Water and salt
- Electrolytes
- Cardiologist has me wearing a heart monitor for two weeks
- Sitting down and laying down as much as possible

My cardiologist recommended recumbent bike exercise but I haven’t found the time or energy to do that.

I know there’s lots of tips out there but the wealth of information is a bit overwhelming so I just want it all in one place.

Discussion Lower resting rate

The last week I have been drinking daily electrolytes instead of when i only feel symptoms, and I’ve also been doing nightly magnesium glycinate.

2 days ago I noticed my resting heart rate was a lot lower than what Im used too. My resting on a good day is normally anywhere between 85-100 and my sleeping rate can be anywhere from 69-85

2 days ago I noticed it was 80 while just chilling on the couch, and it’s normally a lot higher. Sitting on the toilet it was 73, and i had almost never reached 70s while awake. My sleeping rate last night got as low as 62.

Has anyone incorporated magnesium like this along with daily electrolytes and noticed a lower resting heart rate??

Vent/Rant Back to back drs appointments feeling hopeless

Hi I’m feeling really bleh right now. I’ve been struggling with pots related symptoms for about 2 years now I thought maybe resting and trying to not be so stressed out would help with my symptoms. I have general anxiety. In Jan it seem to all get worst after I got sick with the flu and then 5 months before I got sick with Covid. I get sick a lot when I was little now I am 31 and when I get sick with the cold or flu I feel like it takes forever for me to recover. Right now I am struggling with feeling faint but never fainting. Hr goes up when I stand. And when I wake up lately. I been in and out of the ers for the past 4 days because my hr was hard to come down this one day I woke up and it would go fast to the 180. The next morning it was up to 135 with me waking up and then the next two it would go up to 135. I am wearing an event monitor but I got 6 days left to go. Er doctor said it looks like I have svt but cardio is saying it looks like it’s just ist. I’m still waiting to do the tilt table test as well. It just sucks because I have extreme nausea and feel off balance and like I haven’t eaten all day even though I have tried to and to stay well hydrated. I think the panic isn’t helping but I really try not to panic and be zen. Doctor put me on ivabradine it seems to help a little but I don’t really know. I feel like I’m losing my life and it’s hard to be myself. How does everyone overcome their health issue. Unfortunately when I go places I feel like I need a wheelchair or I’ll topple over. How does one not be so scared of feeling every little symptom in their body?

Medication Have I just not take Ivabradine long enough or do I need a higher dose?

I got diagnosed with IST and low blood pressure over the summer and got prescribed 2.5mg of Ivabradine to take twice a day. I feel like it’s also important to mention that I have ADHD and have been taking ~15mg of generic adderall for the last ~6 years and tried to switch to a non stimulant last summer but had no success with it.

I’ve had a lot of weird symptoms since high school through now to college, but they all got blamed by other things like medication side effects or vitamin deficiencies. However recently since going to college I’ve noticed that my symptoms have gotten worse. I thought it was because I wasn’t eating enough with my adhd meds like I’ve experienced in high school, but no matter how on top of my nutrition I was I would experience the worse heart palpitations and faintness. Anyways recently I went to a new doctor who gave me a referral to a cardiologist for these intense symptoms and after a tilt table test and heart monitor he decided to put me on Ivabradine 2.5mg twice daily to see if that helped my symptoms of IST.
Fast forward to now and I’ve been taking my Ivabradine for about 3 months with a week I forgot to take them (I was settling back into school) and about 13 days I also forgot to take them (neglected personal care due to mental health). So far I’ve only noticed slightly less intense and less frequent heart palpitations but they are still really bad, and my heart rate is still really high and takes a long time to go down to resting. So I feel a little lost, I don’t know if I’m not getting the relief from Ivabradine because I missed some dose in the past and have to do another month to see or if I need a higher dose or a different medication. I was really hoping I would get relief like I’ve seen others get on here, but idk, it’s making wonder if I have to choose between being able to only function mentally with my stimulants or only function physically with heart medication.

Discussion Orthostatic Hypertension - my blood pressure is constantly high when I'm up

I've had this for years, but the anxiety over my blood pressure readings made me stop checking altogether. I recently had to get it checked for something and now I can feel all the old anxiety coming back...

Short summary:

- Lots of issues which were put down as autonomic dysfunction

- This included tests where it showed a link to increased BP and HR on postural change, sustained until rest

- Tilt table showed a marked drop in BP when tilted at first, followed by sharp and sustained increase

- My BP is lowest when I'm resting flat. After sleep and first thing in the morning my readings are 115/75 ish. Laying down during the day, after about 30 minutes, it will be around 125/82 ish. Almost any time after standing or doing very mild activity like cleaning, my readings will be 160/105+.

The doctors left me basically. I was offered BP meds but I didn't feel great on them.

I did a lot of research on all this a few years back but it didn't lead me anywhere. Can anyone who has this share their experience either in this post or message? Thanks

Question Weird symptoms after minodixiol use

Heya, I had a blood test that indicated my vitamin D was at 14 ng/ml. My magnesium was in the middle range. My b12 was in the healthy range but still slightly lower. My bilirubin was high and same with glucose.

I've been having severe symptoms of brain fog, random bouts of nausea, dry eyes (which I have a cyclosporine prescription for now), struggling to focus, and a feeling of pulsating blood through my head when sitting down. It may be worth noting that this started near around when I briefly used topical minodixiol (only for 2 weeks), but I'm not so sure about if that caused all this. This feels like it might be a blood pressure issue. I used minodixiol 5 months ago.

I was wondering if anyone else had any similar symptoms and if it went away? Or if these symptoms may be something else which they solved.

Can anyone tell me what they did? Every reddit page is just telling me to visit another one in a giant loop. Doctor doesn't care either.

I'm currently awaiting further appointments, I just wanted to see if anyone thinks I have missed anything)

Since the start of August, I have maybe had 5 of these 'episodes' in total. After the 3rd one, I was off work for about a month. Came back early October with some adjustments and made it almost 2 full weeks before another one. So far these have all happened at work (Pharmaceutical Manufacturing). In the days after each 'episode', I've noticed a higher resting HR, and my apetite is practically non-existent. Even having water (which I've been advised to have more of) still brings on feelings of nausea, making it hard to actually want a full meal.

Important notes: I am autustic (already struggle with temperature regulation nad knowing/expressing how I feel) & hypermobile. 3 times in the past I have fully passed out, but those instances were years ago and at the time were chalked up to being a pain response. I have been to 2 hospitals about this but don't want to reveal my location so they are referred to as "hospital 1" (closest to work) and "hospital 2" (closest to home).

Full timeline with symptoms:

  • 5th August - Came back into work following lunch, had maybe been in the lab about 20-30 minutes. Felt unusually hot and pretty nauseous, and my heart rate felt a bit fast. Went into the changeover room to sit down, partially removed PPE and had a drink of cold water. Kept feeling like I was going to vomit, so I got out of the lab and headed for the toilet. Did end up vomiting about half a dozen times, and although the nausea had subsided, my heart rate continued to quicken. Unfortunately standard relaxation breathing did nothing to help, and I could feel myself getting dizzy and started to panic a bit. Cue me having to crawl out of the toilet and shout for help because I couldn't stand or even sit. Thankfully someone heard and got help. Staff rang ambulance but told a 2 hour wait. My hands were going numb on and off, and were shaky. I could barely talk and had to be lifted into a colleague's car to take me to hospital 1. In the few hours I was there, they did about 3 blood tests, blood pressure and heart rate measurements (both lying down and standing) plus an ECG. Blood tests showed 1 level was low and 1 was high (can't remember what they were) but they evened out without medication. Once all my vitals were checked to be okay, I was essentially told it was likely a "sudden drop in blood pressure" and I was sent home. I (stupidly?) went back to work the following day as I felt okay but didn't have any more symptoms for a couple of weeks. (Highest HR on my watch was 158bpm)
  • 20th August - On this occaision I 'only' felt like I was dealing with nausea/sickness as well as the high temperature. I did not check my heart rate on the day (I did look back at it after the next episode), as weirdly it didn't feel all that high on the day. I didn't go to the hospital on this occaision, but had an unusually cold shower that felt like it took forever to bring my temp down. (Highest HR 204bpm according to my watch)
  • 25th August - Felt similar to 20th so I went to drive myself home (maybe 15-20 mins away from work). Before I even got there, my heart started racing and my vision started to tunnel. I somehow managed to pull into a car park where I asked someone to call an ambulance. I was taken to hospital 2 and had HR and blood pressure checked plus and ECG. Got asked if I'd been tested for or had PoTs but I hadn't. From this visit though I was referred to the syncope clinic on another date. (Highest HR 135bpm - watch didn't get a reading at its worst point) After this I followed advice to stay off work until I had my syncope appointment.
  • 24th September - Seen at the syncope clinic. Had blood test (showed low vitamin D but told very unlikely to be the cause), ECG, and 3x heart rate and BP (lying down then immediately when standing and a few minutes after standing. [I didn't see the numbers at the time but upon seeing my notes after, I noticed my lying down HR was 100, when my normal resting rate is about 80-85. So when my standing rate was 114, it didn't quite show the same range of increase needed for POTS diagnosis/investigation]. Advised to increase fluid intake, try compression wear, sit at work where possible and take breaks for fresh air when needed. Also told about muscle-tensing exercises to do to help with some symptoms, told I basically have a propensity for near-fainting or fainting episodes and went back to work the following week. On top of this, I was booked in at a later date to get a 24h ECG tape fitted (29th Oct). I was told they were fine with me driving as I got "warning signs" that would give me time to pull over should an episode occur when driving.
  • 9th October - Felt myself get hot and heart rate rising. Went to go otuside for fresh air hoping that would help, but it was raining hard so I sat in the reception area and did the muscle exercises. Sort of seemed to work so I went to get more waater, but the dizziness started and I had to lean back on a column. Luckily someone was passing and asked if I was okay, but I could only shake my head no. 2 people walked me to a chair, and someone arranged for me to be taken to hospital 1 again (back to A&E). They took my blood pressure but it was normal so sent across to Urgent Care. Once my Mother turned up my colleagues left, and the high heart rate, nasuea and dizziness came in waves, less intense each time but still awful. Spoke to Urgent Care GP and went over all previous episodes, and he said he was thinking POTS before we mentioned they had asked me about it previously but couldn't give an offical diagnosis. Got sent for an ECG due to mention of family with WPW. Came back as a little fast but otherwise clear. As symptoms were now back within normal range and as the A&E department was very busy, I was recommended to go home but maybe contact the syncope clinic for further advice. In addition I am to speak to OH on the 20th to go over anything and see what they suggest. (Highest HR - 139bpm according to my watch)
  • 14th October - First full day back in the lab with all adjustments in place. About half way through my first order, I felt a hot flush with high heart rate come on that wouldn't come down. Exited the lab and was escorted outside to a bench (my choice). The fresh air helped with the heat, but I cool down a little too quickly and got shaky/shivery so got escorted indoors to another chair. My collagues weren't happy with my recovery but I didn't feel bad enough for hospital, so they rang my family for someone to pick me up. They updated my Mother, who pulled over on the way home and rang our local GP practice. Luckily they had a same day appointment with the nurse to at least log the episode and after speaking to her, she has tried to refer me to cardiology to see if there are additional tests they could run, especially with familial WPW. Also tried to get 24h ECG tape appointment brought forward but couldn't guarantee that. Having spoken to work, they are fine with me staying off at least until OH tells me otherwise [work can temporarily accomodate me in another role but probably not long term] and then I still have my 24h ECG on the 29th. (Highest HR - 122bpm according to my watch)

Following the episode on the 14th, my Mother did also book me a private appointment with Nuffield Health, I believe for a 2nd opinion if nothing else. I'm now actually pretty anxious about going back to work, as during these episodes it feels like it's going to have a worse ending than 'just' passing out. It's very scary during the initial symptoms and despite being a prety logical thinker, I hate how this has all made me feel. Am I missing something? Anything I should ask cardiology (or the first appointment with Nuffield Health) if I get referred? I don't even know what I can or can't do at this point because I don't know what sets it off. 80% of the time I was stood when symptoms started, but 20% I was sat down.

Discussion Medication Induced Nervous System Dysfunction

Hi all! This is going to be a long post, so I’ll do a TL;DR. I’d really appreciate ANYONE who can provide some input, especially if this has happened to you! I’m a 38 M, was relatively healthy at the time.

TL;DR: Corticosteroids and SSRIs have made me miserable and stole my life. Symptoms are shaking when waking, internally vibrating, insomnia, and Anxiety.

Late April 2026, I was prescribed methylprednisone after an anaphylactic event. Right away, I started having panic attacks after eating food. I lost 7% of my body weight in a couple weeks from fear of eating.

Late May 2026, doctors put me on 10 mg Citalopram. It was bad. Diarrhea, insomnia, panic attacks, shaking, vibrating, depression (wasn’t depressed before). Doctors also put me on Ativan 1 mg 3X daily.

July 1, 2026, doctors increase the Citalopram to 20 mg, because “it takes time to work”. I’m having the same symptoms as above, plus akathisia, and severe depression now. I thought my time was ending everyday.

August 1, 2026. Citalopram reduced back to 10 mg.

August 7, 2026. Citalopram didn’t work, so let’s put him on Prozac. Huge mistake

August 19, 2026. After the ABSOLUTE worst 13 days of my life, I quit the Prozac cold turkey. All symptoms above, bad akathisia, SI, and the worst anxiety and panic I’ve ever experienced (remember, I’m on a relatively strong benzodiazepine multiple times daily).

Y’all, I had diarrhea for 72 days straight. 72 days straight. Not a solid stool to be found. At least that’s better now.

August 20 to present day: I have insomnia. I am dependent on benzodiazepines to make it through the day. I dread going to sleep and waking up at the same time.

My symptoms: wake up shaking and vibrating multiple times a night. Have internal vibrations throughout the day. Slightly depressed, though not as bad. Generally feel like garbage all day long. Anxiety. Everyday I wonder if I’ll heal or just be miserable forever. I truly don’t know. I’ve been to 4 different doctors and not a single one will tell me if I’ll get better, or what I even have. I have a good day here and there, but still shake, vibrate, and have high anxiety most of the time.

Does this nightmare end? Please feel free to drop a line, or send me a DM. I know I’m not alone, and I truly feel bad for all of you who are suffering as well!

Edit to add: Labs, vitamins, and hormones (except cortisol) were pristine. Thyroid is good - 2.06 (I’m on Levothyroxine). Vitamin B and D are good. CBC was good. I’m healthy on paper, but my vibrating body says otherwise.

Question Anyone have similar symptoms?

For the past 5-6 years Ive had Sinus Tachycardia and its been gradually getting worse. It started out as having a resting heart rate of around 70 bpm and it gradually got worse and worse over the years. My current resting bpm is typically in the 120s and just getting up and moving is in the 140s. My PCP ordered bloodwork but nothing came back and I just started a heart monitor today and will have it for two weeks. In like a month I have an echo on my heart too. My doc said if those come back normal then he has no idea what could be the issue and im worried this will continue to get worse without proper treatment and diagnosis. Anyone have a similar problem and was avle to solve it?

I'm 27F and am starting training for a type of competitive dancing/pilates/pagent where I wear a leotard

I'm trying to figure out the best compression wear for classes and competition days.

I need decent compression in my legs and abdomen but also can't restrict my mobility and they need to look like regular dance wear.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Symptoms Does acid reflux cause low heart rate?

I have had acid reflux for 3 days and it has been causing me a low heart rate(50 bpm). I believe the acid is stimulating my vagus nerve and causing parasympathetic activation. Does anyone else face this issue with acid reflux? I cannot tolerate PPIs with my severe MCAS flare up going on right now

Question Should I tell my possible employer that I need a stool in the kitchen?

I just got an interview for a job! It's at a small restaurant/bakery that's locally owned. I really want it because it's super convenient for me and seems like a good place to work.

They would like to hire me for prep cooking as well as working service. My issue is that I have mild dysautonomia/pots that doesn't effect me much in my daily life, except my one trigger for feeling sick or fainting is cooking. Standing still for long periods of times causes presyncope symptoms for me. One of the 2 times I fainted was when I was chopping carrots in a kitchen. That was like 2 years ago however, and I think that I could probably push through it with out a stool, but I would feel awful often.

Should I mention that I am fully capable for doing this job, but that I would need a stool if I'm prepping food standing for a while? I heard that I should only mention that I need accommodations after I get the job, but I want to be honest and clear so they don't get a bad impression.

I am a little nervous that they might feel like they are taking a risk on me for being inexperienced and if they see I need accommodations, they'll decide to go another direction.

Vent/Rant Feeling hopeless… does it get better?

I’ve had some sort of nervous system issue since May, triggered by issues with my levothyroxine dose. It got significantly worse following an ER visit in early June. It calmed down a couple months after that, but resurged when I was put on too many different meds in a short period of time. It eased up again until a couple of weeks ago. This time the trigger was three (low) doses of Vitamin D over several days.

Now everything I drink just comes out, and I’m so dehydrated. I’ve been relying on electrolytes since late May and when I forget them I get dizzy. Sometimes my heart rate gets out of control, but I’ve been able to avoid my beta blocker for over a month. Any food I’m sensitive to causes significant GI issues. Same with alcohol, certain supplements, or certain meds. I am exhausted, my body wakes me up too early, and my work is heavily impacted. Sometimes I don’t digest my pills, which causes withdrawal symptoms. I have frequent abdominal pain that makes all these issues worse. If my GI issues fully return, I will be screwed because every GI med/treatment made either my nervous system or electrolyte balance worse.

I’m trying not to add anything new; it was dumb enough to try the vitamin D. But before taking it a couple weeks ago, I was feeling optimistic. I was just starting to run again, was planning on going back to the gym, and was more active socially. I thought I was returning to the way my life was before these issues started. This has been going on for months. It is making me put my life plans on hold, and cancel social plans. I tell myself “I’ll start when I’m better” but it doesn’t seem to end.

Every time I see improvement something happens to screw things up again. I’ve been trying to be optimistic but I’m losing hope. All tests have showed up normal. If a doctor tells me I’ll have to deal with this for the rest of my life, I might give up. I’m trying to tell myself that this is a temporary setback caused by the vitamin d, but I might unintentionally take something in the future that starts the cycle all over again. After the ER visit I basically peed out everything I drank for five weeks straight and this time it’s been almost two weeks of the same. I’m scared and tired. The longer it lasts the worse it will get.

I’ve tried everything and nothing seems to help (except magnesium glycinate, but it dehydrated me more and caused more GI issues). Has anyone had their symptoms improve, or have been able to take back their lives? I’m so tired and I just need some hope.

Edit: I’m only looking for positivity and hope right now. Don’t be that asshole who left a comment saying it never gets better. It’s hard staying optimistic and comments like that don’t help.

Question Changing Heart rate. ?

Until about a month ago, I never used to have such a low heart rate. Recently, I have started noticing a lower heart rate at rest. It is usually around 63–65 bpm, but when I lie down in bed for a long time, it drops to around 53–55 bpm.

I haven’t made any significant lifestyle changes. I still occasionally work as a waitress at events, where I am constantly moving for around 12 hours. However, I only do this two or three times a month, and not necessarily every month. I don’t do any regular exercise.

My heart rate does increase when I move around, cough, stand up, or walk. However, the low heart rate genuinely worries me because I can feel it dropping, almost as if my heart is applying the brakes.

While I’m asleep, my heart rate is usually between 45 and 55 bpm.

My main concern is that this is a new change for me, as I never used to have such a low resting heart rate before.

it was like 53 sleeping and 68-73 resting not mid 50’😵‍💫

anyone with similar experience?

Hi everyone!

I finally had my TTT today and at the beginning I was disappointed and thought nothing would come of it because I wasn’t really feeling any symptoms except when they initially tilted me up to the different phases.

I noticed at about 26 minute mark I started yawning and feeling really tired, but I thought it was because I woke up at 6am for the appointment.

Then at 36 minutes, I started feeling flushed and had just an overall bad feeling along with slight vision black spots and dizziness/ swaying, so I told the techs. Then they immediately laid me back and I felt disappointed because I thought I could’ve pushed myself further. I did notice I was not tired once they laid me back. When I asked at the end they said they didn’t stop the test because of me having symptoms but my BP had dropped to 68/33 shortly after I started feeling bad and I started having more variation and slight slowing of my heart rate.

Does anyone else have experiences with taking so long to evoke symptoms and what was your experience after with diagnoses and treatment? I know I need to wait for my doctor to give his input, but I am just wondering what everyone else’s experiences were.
