Ik this may be a niche question regarding electrical engineering laptops. I wanted to get a new laptop, and I’m currently doing my masters in ee. I wanted a new laptop but idk between either two. I wasn’t going to use either laptop for specifically engineering it was just supposed to be general use and then I would use it for coursework. But I’m stuck between the two because ik MacBook would have quite the trouble trying to run some ee programs but once again I’m not trying to get a laptop specifically for school so I’m stuck.

Any advice ?

also i hv lenovo loq at my list cuz i hv seen many ppl going for that

i asked chat gpt and gemini , it suggested hp omen , asus v 16 , predator , asus tuff

i need 32gb ram , rtx 4050 8gb graphics card , a good display and a good / decent battery life
i will mostly buy the laptop in us , and i will use it india , so i want the customer support to be good

i dont mind about the laptop weight anol , i only wanna focus the performance and the laptop should not have many issue

Laptop MSI Ge62vr, GTX 1060 ~8years old.

My laptop GPU stop being recognized by Windows. It wouldn't show up in the device manager. Tried a few things:

- EC reset, still not showing up

- Cannot update drivers as when I try to install them I get an error saying there's no Nvidia hardware

- Reinstalled Windows, still not working, still cannot install drivers due to no hardware detected.

Any ideas? Is my GPU officially dead? With today's components insane prices I really wish I can salvage my PC :(

I bought a Chromebook and quickly realised it isn’t right for what I need. I’m a beginner learning to code, and I want to use tools like VS Code, Terminal, Git, and Claude Code. I also run a small remote business, so I’ll be using lots of browser tabs, Google Workspace, Canva, client systems, content work, and AI/automation tools.

Can anyone please give me any suggestions on what do to, as I’m a mum and can’t just spend money like this. I need to make sure the investment is worth it, I’m in Australia. Queensland. Local shops around me- officeworks, Harvey Norman.

Bought an Omen Max 16 from HP in November 2025 (RTX 5070 Ti, 240Hz QHD+ display). I also bought HP's 2-year extended warranty, so it's covered through 2028.

At the beginning of June the screen stopped working properly and would constantly flash with horizontal boxes of static/noise. I contacted HP support, and over the next 3 months they had me do 12-15 sessions with different support reps, around 25 hours total, running the same troubleshooting over and over: Windows updates, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows. One session took all day, and I had to take a day off work for it. About halfway through, I was begging them to let me send it in for a hardware fix, and they kept refusing. Near the end, agents would take remote control and sit there for 20 minutes doing nothing before ending the session.

After 3 months of this, I filed complaints with the BBB and my state's consumer protection agency. That finally got me a case manager, and I sent the laptop in at the start of September. They quoted 2 weeks for the repair, but one day I checked the status and the repair estimate had slipped to November.

Once I started calling and filing complaints about the November date, they offered a replacement. The offer letter said in writing: "the same model and all specifications will be of a matching capacity." I accepted on September 30. It then took nearly 3 weeks to arrive. What I got:

- RTX 5060 (8GB) instead of the 5070 Ti (12GB)

- 165Hz display instead of 240Hz

The GPU was the main reason I bought this laptop.

I've told my case manager I'm not accepting it and asked for a unit that actually matches. She expressed skepticism that what I was saying was true and said she'd get back to me.

If you're thinking about buying an HP Omen, beware. Mine isn't an isolated case; there are numerous similar stories out there of long repair waits and poor warranty support. Think hard about whether you want to rely on HP if something goes wrong, which seems very common. If you buy through them, you're rolling the dice, and the effort they'll put you through may not be worth your time.

These screws to hold my laptop hinges in place just keep breaking one at a time and I'm down to two left but I do still have all the screws so would a replacement top part be possible and I just re-screw everything back in?

Hi guys I'm thinking on buying a cheap laptop just for browsing, doing posts on Reddit and things that I just can do on a PC and not on my ipad. My brother has a cheap Acer where sometimes I do things that are just possible on a PC he lives like 30 mins from here if I take the bus.

I have like 800 bucks from my last job I'm currently unemployed so I don't know when I will have money to a buy a good gaming laptop which I'm planning to spend more than 1000 euros because I want something good mainly for high single player gaming. I have an ipad air 4 should I just buy a keyboard case for like 50€ what would be the best thing to do ? What do you guys think .

I know you guys will ask me why tf you bought a i3. So there was a guy who said to me that he will help me buy my first ever laptop and I didn't have any info about laptop, processors and all. And he was a 'dalaal' ( i later found that) so i end up buying this shi.

Now please help me how can I make it more smooth, should I need to use any linux software or should I need to do any changes? Like i can bring it to a computer shop but I just want to be informed what things I need to change? Please help.

I bought a laptop in 2022 for $1,700. After about a year, the screen started having issues whenever I turned it on, so I made an insurance claim. They tried fixing it and replaced several parts, but the same problem kept coming back. Eventually, they gave me three options for a replacement laptop, and I chose one worth around $1,600.
They sent me the new laptop and said they would arrange to collect the old one, but they never contacted me again. I even tried emailing them, but got no response. Fast forward a few years, and I’m still using both laptops! 🤣😂

This stuff ain’t cheap anymore, how much should I sell it for if I decide to sell it, gonna test it first.

My Dilemma:

The ThinkPad is ready to go out of the box with more storage and legendary build quality.

The HP gives me a newer Zen 3+ architecture, much better integrated graphics (Radeon 680M), faster DDR5 RAM, and a gorgeous 16:10 screen, but I have to manage the storage and RAM configuration. 

Which one should I pick for heavy coding and multitasking? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I have the option of getting a 7th ed surface with a Snapdragon(R) X 12-core X1E80100, 32gb ram and a Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU (128 MB) graphics card. Im very new to gaming on Laptops/Pc and im wondering what kind of games it could run. Id like to play games with my friends mostly, Modded Minecraft, Peak, Fortnight but id also like to play cyberpunk and GTA. Would i be able to run these and like Discord in the background?
