But you have to hope this is the last straw. It just has to be. He’s back. It’s worse. Get the message, USA.

He's the most unpopular president of all time. We got the message. It's the GOP that needs to get the message.
147
u/FormerDittoHead 8h ago
It's the GOP that needs to get the message.
The problem is that they know they have nothing / no one else. That's how, running against their top governors and senators, a man with LOTS of personal baggage and ZERO government experience (on any level) became their nominee in 2016. What's more, they hate J.D. Vance the same as everyone.

Conservatives have a hard on for Rubio. The switch from Trump to Rubio is going to be so fast; democrats will try to connect Rubio to Trump and complain unfair, and republicans won’t give a shit.

Their voters will hide for this midterm until the right wing outrage machine gets them all worked up over mortgage rate discounts for black people in a state they dont reside in, or transgenders existing, or a teacher in one district, somewhere in America, being openly gay. Then, theyll emerge to vote for Gorlath the Lord of Pestilence running on a platform of agony for the masses.

The fact that the polls are saying fucking Kansas is a dead heat tells me the shy MAGA effect is stronger than usual.
Kansas went +23 to the Republicans in their last Senate election. That level of swing does not exist in the electorate. In the case of Kansas, a state where I have some personal experience, I think they're missing probably 8-10% of Republicans who will end up voting. That's still a 13 to 15 point swing, to put it in context.

u/HiphopopoptimusPrime 8h ago
The left absolutely cannot let up over this. In 5-10 years time people will deny ever having voted for him. Biden showed that we can’t show leniency or grace.
I know the media is flooding the zone with shit and that COVID, attacks on education, leadpaint etc damaged people’s brains. There are a proportion of the population that wanted this. That are only upset because THEY are feeling the effects and not the people they hate. The politics of cruelty and spite.
The softly softly approach ended up with things much worse.
White liberals aren’t much better. Always telling you it’s just speculation. But here we are, Trump is openly committing treason.
•
u/Skurry California 7h ago
I'd vote for Gorlath! I mean sure our tap water may start smelling like sewage and all our mucous membranes will start developing painful blisters and eventually start to bleed, but at least he's not a career politician, and he tells it like it is, no filter or stilted language! Sure it's mostly just grunts. But the liberals will be so pissed!

The pipeline of disinformation is still flowing whenever Trump’s neutralized, be it term limits, shifting political winds or old age. His supporters aren’t clamoring to learn more about how the world works, they’re clamoring for the next great father figure to read them a bedtime story that validates their preconceptions about social issues. Trump has been that father figure. He’s told the best stories and made them feel safe by using all the best words. They want another one of those, and will take anyone they can get if they talk like Dad used to. Look at how strong a campaign Ken Paxton is running. 90% of that success has been having (R) next to his name. His supporters only want a Republican. They’re prepared for the mental gymnastics to explain why they’re better.
The people who vote reliably Republican no matter who they are, no matter what horrible things they’ve done, have a dozen news feeds 24/7 telling them that Democrats are devil-worshippers who want to take their freedoms, emasculate their boys and force them to get vaccines that will give them tracking chips and heart attacks.
Until we enforce existing regulations and create new ones to curtail the ability of media organizations to deliberately lie and mislead for a profit, the pipeline is still there. We need to destroy the pipeline if we want any of these folks out of their bubbles.
32
u/councilmember 8h ago
Media organizations can say what they want. If they use the word News they need to have veracity and present multiple interpretations.
In short, bring back the Fairness Doctrine.

Anyone paying attention could see he was running the very worst campaign in history. Talking about people eating cats and dogs, dancing for 40 minutes at a rally, dressing up to work at McDonalds and a garbage crew. His rallies were mostly empty and he was stiffing venues on rental agreements.
He cheated. He won in every swing state AND Kamala didn’t flip one county? Not even Reagan was able to accomplish that. He lost the popular vote twice, but got it now? While he was facing multiple investigations that could put him away for life and hinder his money making? While he had one of the richest men in the world and tech helping him? He cheated and no amount of voting would have changed it. All voting data week after week so far shows irregular numbers in multiple states. There are more of us than there are of them and it’s all a big lie. If not, then why does he need to gerrymander AND cancel mail in voting when he had SO many prior? We just found out for sure that 3/4 of the MAGA accounts on X/Twitter are fake.

It doesn’t do me a whole lot of good trying to fight these petty little battles but I’m going to do this once because I’m having a bad day and I can’t not. Look at my original comment. Look at that 90% figure. Ken Paxton is running a strong campaign not because he’s a talented politician, he’s running a strong campaign in spite of his numerous personal failings. Running neck-and-neck for a Senate seat is a strong campaign. He isn’t responsible for 90% of that. As others have noted, pointing out the obvious, Ken is terrible at this and yet there he is, on the verge of getting a Senate seat. No shit he’s bad at this. My whole point is he doesn’t have to be good at it when he’s got an (R) next to his name. That alone is giving him the appearance of a strong campaign, because the polling reflects it.

Correct. trump becoming president is a symptom of the decline of the intellectual and moral capacity of the American people.
In 2024 a convicted criminal rapist ran for the presidency and only 31% of the American electorate opposed him.
Want a better government? Then start building a rational, informed, compassionate electorate.
Want more of the same? Then leave the electorate as-is and let social media hate continue to brainwash it.

And I'm not being hyperbolic, one of the most rich and powerful men to ever exist believes that verbatim. This fear of death informs every decision he makes.

•
u/Kan4lZ0n3 6h ago
How can someone make anything great when they don’t meet two intrinsic requirements in the statement?
He doesn’t understand what America is, and is not a good American himself, by personal conduct, or from learned behavior. He also doesn’t know any form of greatness, commonly-held or self-made. He is what he’s always been, a fraud, a huckster, a snake oil salesman, selfish to a fault, morally and physically a coward, and fundamentally compromised by all appreciable measures.
He only knows how to take things from others, make them worse, and runs away from the consequences. And it’s high time that life of ruin came with outcomes for him.

As CNN pointed out, this upcoming 'blue wave' (lets hope!!!) is just a 3 point swing away from leaving republicans in full control of all branches of government.
Even with all that's happened, with the country falling apart and just disaster and corruption and horror from Trump and republicans at every turn, we're just barely saying as a country "maybe we should try something different."

Despite the number of times we have heard this song and dance, there is new reason for hope:
Trump's decline is REALLY starting to show.
We are seeing a marked increase in decline in self-control, empathy, and recognition of social norms as he does new and stupider things like openly insult reporters and even candidates he nominally supports, uses profanity in his public remarks, and recently has started to do things like make big angry incoherent noises like growling. If I had to benchmark his self-control based on his angry behavior I would rank him at around 4 years old.
If Dems do well in the midterms, take control of the House or Senate or both and REALLY turn up the heat on Trump, I submit we have good reason to be confident the stress will lead to further sharp decline in the man and Trump resigning or being 25th'd within 2027.
•
u/brewbake 3h ago
> further sharp decline in the man and Trump resigning or being 25th'd within 2027.
Mitch McConnell would like a word. There is no way Rs would allow that no matter how bad it gets.
I think Dems taking Congress and Trump further declining will be a dangerous time in America. But one the country has no choice but to go through.

u/badrabbix 2h ago
Agree. Folks don't take into account that after 6 years DJT has learned he can do anything he wants to, illegal or not, because it takes 9 - 12 months for lawsuits to resolve to "no, you can't do that"
And he's fine with batting .500. He'll just turn around and tweak here and there and keep doing it.
Our only hope in this country is for DJT to have a stroke, otherwise he'll be totally unhinged. Nice work MAGA . . .

Really his presidency ends after the midterms. But even worse for Trump, he will become irrelevant and no longer be the center of attention.
The political discussion will turn to who’s running 2028 for both parties, and he will probably become unhinged about the Dem candidates. On the GOP side, it will be interesting to see the split between those who claim he can run again vs. those who think they have a shot in 28.

From the article:
This week has been a cascade of embarrassing stories: Kimberly Guilfoyle getting iced as ambassador to Greece after a donor revealed that just before her Senate confirmation hearing, she tried to shake him down to pay her $100,000 American Express bill; the Trump loyalist Ric Grenell, who was the head of the ill-fated Kennedy Center, accused by the Trump loyalist Alina Habba Mildon and her new billionaire husband of misallocating a $5.6 million donation marked for the center; and our ally Volodymyr Zelensky saying he felt betrayed by Trump’s sordid deal with Vladimir Putin over diesel oil and the restricted access to Elon Musk’s Starshield amid Russian bombardment. Trump even had to cancel the nitwit plan of his frat boy Pentagon chief to livestream an execution.

The problem is Trump has desensitized us all at this point.
I hate to say it, but it's almost like shootings. At one point, each one was a national tragedy taking our attention and causing fear and sorrow for ages. Now, it's just Tuesday.
With Trump, it's the same thing. We look now and think "wow... any other president would have had his entire presidency sunk, and mired in red tape, turned immediately into a lame duck or impeached." And now we say the same thing "oh, it's Tuesday, Trump did something awful. Oh well."

Not only that, but when/if the Democrats take Congress is about the time shit will really start to hit the fan. US is running on borrowed time economically, and Trump will likely attempt to say it’s happening cuz he doesn’t control congress anymore. Sort of how he’s trying to act like Diesel is expensive now cuz of the Ukraine War. I had a co-worker who believes that there is no way the Iran War could affect prices this fast and the real reason is cuz the Ukraine War has gone on too long and firmly blames Ukraine for it…
By 2028 I could see MAGA being reinvigorated by this double think rewriting of history where 25-26 were alright and things really got bad in 27-28 due to the Democrats controlling Congress.

Trump is safe so long as the Conservatives fear alienating his base. They can't win elections without them.

If January 6th or the Epstein files didn't sink him, literally nothing will.

This might be the 200th time I’ve seen a similar headline. May we have some actual journalism please

The bubble only bursts if Stephen Miller, Russ Vought, Lee Zeldin, the Trump children, and the Kushner family, and the rich corporate board members enabling these crooks, receive fair trials and harsh sentences for using their positions to make their personal families wealthier by destroying the ability for a working class family to achieve financial independence.

Ten years with this headline now. Meanwhile, the Russians just deployed their midterm bots.

Thank you. In a world of AI slop, its nice to read something by a person who can command the use of the english language.

No it’s not. These mid-terms are NOT going to be the blowout Americans think it will. Even if Dems retake Congress, nothing will change. When has Trump ever cared about checks and balances? Dems are spineless and won’t enforce anything to check him.

the best I can hope for is Texas to turn blue just for my state to not be so shitty.
•
u/inspired-polf 5h ago
Your state will still be shitty because all state offices are Republican controlled. The country will be a little bit better

I will believe it when it happens. Articles like this are most likely deliberate propaganda designed to cause Democrats to get complacent. Making us think that we can relax, and that the fight has been won.

It’s for this EXACT reason I had to stop following all political content on social media.
Example: Meidas Touch. Started out fine. Then EVERY headline was “this is it! The end of Trump! He’s dying! Epstein files are taking him down”
Any political account that posted a pic with a headline was literally ruining my moods.
Been much better since actively getting my news as opposed to fake headlines all day.
End of rant.

Meidas Touch is clickbait for liberals. Their YouTube videos have the capitalization of certain words to illicit certain emotions. It’s fucking embarrassing.

New York, Maryland and Florida (if they somehow go blue) need to prosecute him at state level immediately after his term.

He can pretty much pardon himself and anyone else whenever he wants.

won't save him from criminal charges filed by states or civil suits - and those will come in droves ..

He's definitely already played around with the idea of pardoning state crimes as well despite not actually having the power to do so. Wouldn't be the first time he did something he wasn't supposed to be able to do.

I can see it now, it gets appealed to SCOTUS and Alito says “on the clay tablets of Hammurabi it says Donald Trump can do this.”Somehow gets a 6-3 ruling.

Self pardons really have never been tested. Nixon could have done it otherwise. That said, I don't think Trump will ever be held accountable. My hope is that many of his enablers will.

u/raging-peanuts 9h ago
My only hope is that when Trump is long dead and gone, and if America ever does discover some level of decency around his time in office, that his younger enablers, who still might be around, would be shunned for their shameful behavior.
But somehow I think this whole era will be rug swept.

Our political system is too frightened and unable to hold a president accountable. I stopped expecting it years ago. Nothing will happen to this man, and we won’t be rid of him until we read his obituary.

This brings up a great moral question of the lawless democrat president. Let’s say dems take over power, eventually 2028 we get a dem president and don pardons himself. Since Don set precedent, the dem president has every right to act illegally, ignore that illegal pardon and arrest and detain this current administration. “National security”, executive privilege, and such, then the lawless dem can just pardon themselves for all this.
I mean it’s insane to even think or want a lawless president, but Don broke the norms so it should be on the table. I would argue it could be the moral thing also. Which again, could be terrible for the country in the long run. But this guys is playing with powers he doesn’t even understand, and the rules are broken. What happens if that is used against him.

There is zero established law regarding a President pardoning himself.
I seriously doubt even the Robert's Court 6 will let him get away with it. If they do a future President could get away with murdering anybody, including them.
Unfortunately, he can resign for health reasons and JD Vance can hand him a pardon.

Really? This is the same court that ruled that a President is essentially immune from criminal prosecution for anything he does in office.

They already agreed a President could get away with murder. The hypothetical used was a President ordering seal team 6 to assassinate a political rival and thesis Supreme Court agreed he could.
