They sure love using that picture while side commenting they'd bang her

And Elon didn't invent that 💩

u/Okrumbles 8h ago

I'm gonna be real I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a car that can jump in the current American driving climate anyways.

216

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 7h ago

There is zero chance that “feature” will ever see public roads. The amount of compressed are needed for that would probably vaporize everyone within 50 feet in a minor accident.

I would actually be more comfortable if it did use propellant.

This was a publicity stunt and the only to only noteworthy thing is the vacuum downforce which also seems dumb when you consider it’ll be sucking up squirrels and random shit on public roads.

It’ll be a regular car with regular features. This stuff will be “2 years out” for the next 20z

u/beardeddragon0113 7h ago

"You know how our electric cars have giant batteries that sometimes burst into an unquenchable fireball that burns hot enough to melt metal? What if we add a bunch of highly compressed gas in cannisters around the frame!"

43

u/Real_Time_Mike 7h ago

Makes the destruction of evidence more complete that way.

That Elon... always thinking, that one.

3

u/camel_case_user 5h ago

Maybe he really is the real life Tony Stark

/s

10

u/LurkerFromTheVoid 4h ago

Also, can 1-3 seconds in the air even be considered as "Flying" vs other machines?

For example:

The Kiity Hawk vs Tesla Roadster, what flyes more?

Kitty Hawk wins by a wide margin in actual sustained atmospheric flight—whether comparing the 1903 Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk or the modern Kitty Hawk eVTOL aircraft against the newly demonstrated Tesla Roadster.

The only scenario where a Tesla Roadster "flies" farther is if you count Starman’s 2008 Roadster launched atop a Falcon Heavy in 2018, which is in a ballistic heliocentric orbit rather than achieving self-powered aerodynamic flight...so not exactly flying, more like falling forever.

7

u/NaughtAught 6h ago

Remember, in a cybertruck, you are the Crumple Zone

5

u/Majestic_Recover7 5h ago

The gas will blow out the fire like a birthday cake candle! Coming this year, next year at the latest.

3

u/Broad-Promise6954 5h ago

Well, to be fair, they subtracted away most of the batteries. There's only room for propellant now.

2

u/Bendlerp 5h ago

Carbon fiber canisters. Like the submarine that imploded on itself. We car guys figured that out way back in the early 2000's. Carbon fiber intercooler pipes look cool until you hit boost.

25

u/Fragrant_Major_9553 7h ago

It was a concept car, and idiots are just lapping up the bullshit. Every single generation of Corvette from the C3 to the C7 had a concept car alongside it that was mid-rear.

This is nothing more than a thought experiment, and will never see the roads.

1

u/TheDrummerMB 2h ago

I agree it's bullshit, but they are claiming it'll be released. Corvette doesn't do that.

17

u/SonofSniglet 6h ago

It’ll be a regular car with regular features. This stuff will be “2 years out” for the next 20z

Tesla is the "Free beer tomorrow!" of automotive companies.

15

u/Nyysjan 6h ago

We've had rocket packs since the 60s.
The one used in that James Bond film? Not a special effect, actual thing.
Nobody uses them for a reason.
Same for this car.

26

u/fat_fingerz 7h ago

There isn't a zero chance, Elon was proud to admit how he was able to get road safety measures cut so that the cybertruck could get onto American streets, pretty much nowhere else, and with the current US we've got the cyberpunk without the cool robots and implants.

21

u/themostrealandtrue 6h ago

Road safety measures aren't what will stop this thing from going to market. Literally no insurance company in the country will insure this this, and that's what will stop this from going to market.

3

u/therj9 5h ago

Aren't cybertrucks already having to be insured by Tesla because insurance companies won't touch it?

2

u/themostrealandtrue 5h ago

I googled it and it looks like a few different major insurance companies will insure the cyber truck. It's just very expensive.

17

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 7h ago

Cars that can jump traffic like that could never be safe enough to do that on a public road. They don’t even have FSD down. So regulators will either say this simply can’t operate on public roads or has so be disabled and air tank empty. There isn’t really anything comparable on CT from a public safety perspective. Not even close.

3

u/avt1983 6h ago

Not if we FIRE all the regulators for BLATANT CORRUPTION and LIBRUL BIAS!

2

u/fungusgolem 5h ago

Also, there's basically no use case where this makes any sense in the hands of drivers.

2

u/ace_11235 3h ago

They said in the release materials it won’t be legal for public roads.

5

u/AnonymousLampoon 7h ago

Unfortunately, from what I understand, they already have commercial pricing and branding. It's called the "SpaceX Thruster Upgrade Package" and it's $690,000 USD

I can also, guarantee that this will not see any sort of preventative regulatory oversight to keep this jumping car off the road until this administration is gone. Hopefully the midterms euthanize their mandate and we can finally go back go a little bit of normalcy around here.

10

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 6h ago

Yeah, because any time Elon uses “69” or “420”, he’s being completely serious. 690k for what amounts to a parlor trick will cement this into the hall of automotive oddities. There won’t be more than a handful produced if any are actually sold. That will only make it harder to make them street legal.

States can also exercise discretion, just like they have with those little Kei pickup trucks.

All this amounts to is a PT Barnum style marketing stunt to get people talking about Tesla. And as you can see, it worked. Whatever they invested to do this, is dwarfed by the amount of discussion/attention this got. The usefulness of the feature ends there.

Also, calling this a “flying car” makes about as much sense as calling the General Lee a flying car.

Those of us who have worked in computer networking have heard of RFC 1925, which sums this up nicely:

“With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead.”

It’s just the most literal example I’ve ever seen to decribe this dumb assed stunt.

2

u/SafetyMan35 6h ago

Publicly stunt and a way to show the relative ease it could be adapted to a lunar or mars lander

2

u/LariusAT 6h ago

Not only squirrels, a single leaf or piece of trash will kill the down force and you'll crash.

1

u/Possible-Mountain698 5h ago

if the only penalty for playing vehicular leapfrog is a fine then you’ll absolutely see it on the roads.

1

u/Vendemmian 5h ago

Given what a pile of shit the CuckTruck was I can only imagine trying to use this. Two fire normally, one doesn't work, one blasts out all it's air instantly and you cartwheel into the fourth floor of an office before exploding.

1

u/Le_rap_a_Billy 4h ago

To add on to this: Tesla isn't nearly the first company to use fan driven suction. The tech has been around since 1970, and McMurty Automotive were the first to use fan suction to hang upside down and drive their electric hypercar in April 2025.

1

u/AntC_808 4h ago

I’m a huge car/motorcycle guy… I swear this is some of the stupidest, most childish shit I’ve ever seen.

When I think of the resources squandered…

Build a world dominating American built Formula One car.

1

u/Careless_Wishter 4h ago

F1 cars in the 90s produced enough downforce to drive up a vertical wall. So, not new, Elon didn't do it, and it has no practical value.

1

u/urbanlife78 4h ago

A new way for squirrels to die

1

u/Mexicutioner01 4h ago

MarquĂŠs on YouTube did a video on it with the info he has. That specific unit will not be sold to the public because for 1, it's stupidly loud. And two, yeah. It is not street legal. They will give them out to a few influencers and rich dudes. But as of now it's invite only. At least till Elon just pays off who ever he needs to pay off to make it street legal.

1

u/ChadsworthRothschild 3h ago

The vacuum tech was done by the McMurty Speirling last year, where the car was able to generate enough downforce to stick to the road upside down without driving forward.

1

u/Opie301 3h ago

A publicity stunt at best.

If Tesla is actually taking deposits on cars on the promise of jump jets, it starts to feel like fraud. Or maybe a complicated method of money laundering.

1

u/SpaceIsVastAndEmpty 3h ago

They had this on our 6pm news episode

And they literally followed it with some scientist/engineer guy saying it's an incredibly inefficient form of propulsion being used, and the "fuel" would probably last 6-8 seconds

•

u/NoLie129 24m ago

From what I understand the ramp did the sucking not the car. There is however a real car already in production that can suck itself upside down, and can already do over 4gs in turns. Twice what this has claimed.

68

u/ALTH0X 8h ago

Especially the kind of people who buy cybertrucks

26

u/DragApprehensive336 7h ago

They're called Klanborghinis now.

3

u/Ace_Robots 6h ago

Aparth-rides

18

u/ScienceGuy6 7h ago

This is it. Firstly, the average American will never be able to afford this. The people that could afford this will be able to afford any damage they inflict with it. Are they going to try and jump over traffic? What reason is really behind the building of this? It would be a great getaway car after a crime. But it has no place on American highways.
Now, it wouldn’t be out of place on a less populated planet, say Mars? Or even the moon? I don’t think the rich asshole ever stated what the use of this car would be. All I know is that it can “suck the chrome off of a bumper”, or “suck a bowling ball through a garden hose”, because his humor never developed past the fifth grade.

5

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 6h ago

Tbf more rich people will die using this car.

3

u/Tricky-Winner7984 6h ago

I think they are more likely to kill other people.

2

u/ScienceGuy6 6h ago

Fingers crossed!

3

u/TomatilloPristine437 7h ago

People make cars like this to justify make this for gta6 as a $50 dlc. Thats how the mass can buy cars like this

2

u/Sevenserpent2340 6h ago

The physics don’t work in an actual car. This is a car shaped drone.

1

u/GhostCheese 6h ago

I guess first responders and ambulances might benefit

1

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 6h ago

The only real application I can think of for something like this is emergency collision avoidance similar to how airbags work, but considering that it won’t be capable of anything resembling sustained flight, it is still likely way too dangerous to use on a public road.

11

u/Tsar-A-Lago 7h ago

However, it wouldn't be a problem for long because the SpaceX components it's made of will cause it to spontaneously explode in your driveway.

4

u/Hdjbbdjfjjsl 6h ago

Cars flinging around on the ground with ridiculously compressed gases, what could possibly go wrong?

1

u/digital_nomadman 6h ago

Not to mention the practicality of it all, this was just a show, doing something like that is highly illegal and they'll have a hed time getting that car on the road if the average idiot is equipped with high pressure air tanks.

2

u/brittsarina 6h ago

I was saying the same thing to my partner last night. He witnessed a cyclist get “pancaked” by a car (cyclist was able to walk after) and he kept doubling down on how flying cars would be better than road cars. sigh I’m tired, boss

2

u/Exciting-Quiet2768 6h ago

As someone else said, "10k psi Ford pinto"

4

u/Itchy-Couple-9252 7h ago

Man and the cost of jet fuel these days is wild

1

u/Electronic_Flan_482 7h ago

No kidding, the number of pepole who try to merge into my work truck makes me wonder if the us is actualy going blind. It's a big fucking panel van, kinda hard to miss.

1

u/chadius333 6h ago

It’s just a PR stunt. He couldn’t make the last roadster work, and that one didn’t have rocket boosters. Pure vaporware BS.

1

u/FowlSec 6h ago

I feel like everyone is smoking crack. 12 years after he promised a fully self driving car, he still hasn't produced it, and now people think a flying car is somehow real, and going to be sold?

1

u/Striking-Ad9397 5h ago

Atp I think its just the global driving climate

•

u/FitSurround1096 1h ago

If the flying car ever does make it somehow to market. It's only going to be reserved for the 1% filthy-ass rich people. So they can look down upon us as they are driving too 🙃Flying car isn't intended for everyday regular people.

43

u/Acceptable_Aside_568 7h ago

Also - this one of the dumbest inventions of this century. Alongside Cybertruck.

They could have spent the time making better batteries or improving build quality. Instead they went full speed into useless gimmicks.

10

u/squirrelems 7h ago

I don't understand why they made it look so dumb. Pretty much any futuristic car from...anything...looks cooler than the cybertruck.

9

u/Acceptable_Aside_568 7h ago

I think AOC migh have explained that one quite well.

2

u/squirrelems 7h ago

Oh. Yeah. Probably.

4

u/LesbeGoddess 7h ago

Don’t worry. It’s a concept car that will never be released for production and is purely cheesy advertisement to pump that shit stock that is overvalued by 10x

5

u/Careless-Concert-ape 7h ago

Cyber-stuck.. get the cars name right please

2

u/Acceptable_Aside_568 6h ago

And Cyber-cuck - it's every driver.

1

u/doctordoctorpuss 6h ago

Always a middle aged bald/balding dude in tactical gear. I laugh at every single one of these dickless losers. When we’re out driving, my wife and I will point them out to the other one so that we can both have a good chuckle at the idiot’s expense.

3

u/tired_fella 7h ago

there's not really an invention here. RCS has been in use long before SpaceX was found, in rockets, missiles and interceptor vehicles.

2

u/Acceptable_Aside_568 6h ago

True, I do believe the suction underskirt that allows it to hang like a bat for a while is new... but it's not Tesla's idea afaik. Also not exactly the most useful tech - it's ment to create some ridiculous downforce for hypercars on track, but in everyday life it's about as useful as a snooze button on a fire alarm.

4

u/daGroundhog 6h ago

Dumbest inventions? Hyperloop wants in on the chat....

2

u/Acceptable_Aside_568 6h ago

Yeah, the competition is tight.

1

u/YikesTheCat 5h ago

Not useless at all; it's all part of the scheme to prop up the hyped Tesla stock price so Elon can have the illusion of being the "richest man" to compensate for the fact that he's too obnoxious to have friends and that no one laughs at his jokes.

32

u/burninmedia 7h ago

SpaceX and Tesla engineers built that shit while this guy runs around trying to figure out how to rig elections. People are so stupid, which is why they want to defund education, I mean have.

9

u/witsnuitneusbeer 7h ago

And a lot of those engineers are immigrants. Elon has famously shown no interest in educating for Americans when you can just hire from abroad.

24

u/No_Grand7184 7h ago

Elon has never invented anything

20

u/Free_Device6838 7h ago

He didnt invent anything, ever

7

u/Heavensward 7h ago edited 7h ago

Oh, I thought it was proof of his idiocy!

With all the things that need solving, he helped fund a device nobody asked for!

8

u/DracosKasu 7h ago

It is still a useless invention which isnt legal on street and dumb people will activate it at random location which will result to more stupid accident on the road.

-1

u/Fun-Dragonfly-4166 7h ago

bridges and tunnels need more signs. it is illegal to activate jump in this zone.

maybe cars need a jump disactivation switch and everyone has to press the jump disactivation switch before going into bridges, tunnels, and parking garages

2

u/DracosKasu 5h ago

People already have problem to use their direction flashing to other car expecting them to be bright enough to use put the button on hold is asking them too much.

2

u/AltruisticRoutine220 6h ago

Elon didn't invent anything. Not even idiocracy.

3

u/Clean_Philosophy5098 7h ago

And you know we paid for it as part of rocket research

2

u/Snowing_Throwballs 7h ago

Even if he did invent it, or engineer it, or build it, which he didnt, it is a supremely bad idea to have a giant compressed air bomb inside of a car. Especially one that flies. Some would say, thats not smart

1

u/RideTheGradient 6h ago

Right, old nasa moon tech and the much cooler mcmurty speirling https://youtu.be/NDfKhBcGh9w?is=KgNBABemmDrffwES

1

u/irrelephantIVXX 6h ago

It's kinda funny that thats the most unflattering pic she's ever taken, and it was clearly just having fun. But then they put up Susan dell as this, idk, mold of womanhood, or some crazy shit

1

u/nerdofthunder 6h ago

From a "we have the controls to handle thrusters and shit" to this isnt thaaaaat big of a leap. Its at best a cool demo of existing tech.

1

u/NoConfusion9490 5h ago

They're also happy to put working class people in jail for a decade for what he's doing in that picture.

1

u/Kaiserkrautheim 5h ago

It’s not even a true car most likely. It is definitely a roadster shell over a spaceX control rocket control system with the suction stuff thrown in the bottom. I doubt that a person can actually go in (I haven’t watched any of the testing videos). I do know that it was fully remote controlled during its demonstration. And not to shit on the Telsa engineers that do pull this off, but they probably took the everything directly from SpaceX

1

u/Frantic_Penguin 5h ago

Well, to be fair, he almost certainly came up with this loony toon idea while smoking a blunt. Then went to the actual engineers and was like, "Yo, *puffs*, what if we had a car that, like, stuck to the road and could do flips man!" and then the actual smart people had to make it happen.

1

u/Character-Handle-697 5h ago

Elon has money to buy brain people

1

u/LordTyran 5h ago

I mean, Elon didn't even invent Teslas... So what did u expect??

1

u/WhiskeySorcerer 4h ago

Also, it's not even a real car. It's just a shell with some boosters installed lol

1

u/exodusofficer 4h ago

That's 1960s technology anyway, nothing new. It's basically a revision of the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV). Pretty much the whole "car" has to be a fuel tank just to show off a few seconds of flight. It's physically impossible to ever be practical, there's no way to carry enough fuel for anything more than a demonstration like this.

1

u/KCchessc6 3h ago

We all know it was Doc Brown

1

u/ParzivalLupusDei 3h ago

Yes, that’s why she got the job she did, it had nothing to do with her intelligence lmao, on contrary to Elon

1

u/lear72988 3h ago

It's an "invention" with zero practical purpose. Tesla released it as a way to take heat from the fact he's trying to sway our elections with his money and there is currently a documentary with 4 hours of content about how deranged and dangerous he is. And these fucking people fall for it.

1

u/Complete_Break1319 2h ago

Oh yeah he's just the majority share holder, ceo and face of the company. I'm sure he had nothing to do with it. You sound like a fucking idiot rn.

•

u/BubonicBabe 1h ago

Elon didn’t invent it, nor help build it, but also what “it” is isn’t impressive.

The fine print of the ad specifically states this model is for sale with “invitation only”, not public road legal, and there is currently no release date, nor final cost estimation for it.

If anyone gets the invite to buy this one seated, non street legal turbo booster car, they have to pay 250,000$ within 10 business days to reserve it, and there is no guarantee date of release or final expenditure on it.

The other street legal model has a reserve of 50,000$, but also likely has those same “non official release date” concerns.

It’s insane that he keeps pulling this. He promises big, releases a demo video showing how badass his project is, gets folks to invest and fund his further ridiculous expenditures with no guarantees of anything final. He’s like the shitty grifter king of GoFundMe.

•

u/FalconStickr 40m ago

He didn’t invent anything.

1

u/Tarantel 7h ago edited 7h ago

That's right, Rocket League did it first.

-10

u/Electronic_Quote399 7h ago

22

u/DM_Voice 7h ago

Good thing for her that she has no interest in stupid men.

-9

u/Electronic_Quote399 7h ago

Oh god! My feelings!

12

u/truthhurts-imahammer 7h ago

Which is all you have.

-2

u/LibrarianKooky344 6h ago

Can't trust AOC... she says wear masks and stay away from people... then vacations in Florida with no mask in popular cities lol. The hypocrisy can go both ways

-5

u/jordanl171 7h ago

SpaceX, Starlink ,Tesla, Megapack ,xAI, OpenAI, Neuralink ,The Boring Company, X, PayPal. Say it's dumb and he had nothing to do with this.

9

u/RKGamesReddit 7h ago

He certainly had something to do with them, financially. He didn't do shit tech wise though, even xAIs big thing is that he bought a bunch of compute early before anyone else, they sell more compute than they use and it props up a lot.

-5

u/jordanl171 7h ago

So he steered multiple companies into such high values, but really had nothing to do with them? Look, I think he's also a moron, just like you do. But to call his accomplishments stupid makes you look dumb.

6

u/RKGamesReddit 7h ago

Over promise, under deliver, line go up. We'll have FSD any day now bro.

I don't think anyone in this thread called him stupid, and I certainly wouldn't. He has vision and throws money at it until something sticks.

-1

u/jordanl171 7h ago

You are complaining that it's taking too long for self driving cars to come out? Hahaha

4

u/Previous_Beautiful27 7h ago

Government subsidies will do a hell of a lot of heavy lifting for you.

6

u/beardeddragon0113 7h ago

Didn't the engineers at PayPal famously need to go back and revert elons changes whenever he would try to add to the code base because it broke stuff and didn't work?

And isn't there a dedicated team at spaceX to keep him placated and feel like he's "helping" without messing up the actual real work the engineers are doing?

And didn't he sue the actual founders of Tesla to label him as a "founder" despite the fact he didn't invent or work on the cars?

1

u/jordanl171 7h ago

Reddit lore: SpaceX "babysitter" story literally came from a fake Tumblr post . SpaceX's founding propulsion chief Tom Mueller and NASA veterans have confirmed for years that Elon leads real engineering decisions. Plus, you have the Tesla lawsuit backwards Eberhard sued Elon, also when Elon basically bought tesla , Tesla had zero prototypes, zero cars, and didn't even have a factory yet. like i said in another comment. Elon can be a total moron, but to say he's not accomplished makes you sound dumb. like lunar lander denier dumb.
