A very underrated Hip album if you ask me, that holds two of my favourite all time Hip tunes, We Want to be It and the title track. What did you think on release day? Has the album warmed to you overtime?

"The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony was always going to be bittersweet this year, since the Tragically Hip were finally getting their due, but Gord Downie wasn’t there to witness it.
Still, Saturday’s star-studded ceremony at Massey Hall had plenty of highs, too, as Toronto indie musician Leslie Feist, Loverboy members Mike Reno and Paul Dean, and Quebec pop singer-songwriter Roch Voisine also joined this year’s class.
Here are some of the night’s highlights, from the red carpet to the performances."

Some of you perhaps know that over the summer there's been a tournament-style bracket ongoing that's been revisiting and discussing favourites among the Hip's most popular songs.
That tournament has reached its final week. We're down to the final four:
Nautical Disaster vs. At the Hundredth Meridian
Wheat Kings vs. Ahead By A Century.
Nautical Disaster won the first semifinal. The second match, Wheat Kings vs. Ahead By A Century is ongoing today.

Wonderful to see the Tragically Hip going into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame today and a well earned distinction it is. Their incredible catalogue has a place next to the finest songwriters our country has produced, from the legendary likes of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen to bands like Blue Rodeo and the Guess Who. It's surprising they're only being inducted now!

Thought I'd share this VHS recording I just digitized. This news report is from the NTV Evening Newshour, and contains footage of the Hip performing Gift Shop at Memorial Stadium in St. John's, NL on December 3, 1996. It also has a backstage interview with Johnny Fay. Ignore "The Hundredth Millennium" though. As far as I know this hasn't been available online until now, so enjoy!

Found this CD at local shop along with a bunch of others that were all in these cartridges. Seems like the cartridges were for radio broadcasting, so the DJs could play the discs without having to handle the actual disc.
It's their first release from 1987. And "EP" with 8 songs.
Wondering if maybe it's a radio station specific disc. It says CAPAC beside each track. Maybe put there to let them know that it was Canadian content. Maybe that was on all the discs at the time. Seems odd though. If someone has the regular release let me know if this is just the regular disc. Cool find either way.

Caught up with Michael who is the producer while we were both in Gander for the 25th Remembrance of Operation Yellow Ribbon. He also was the producer of Come From Away. Looking forward to seeing it.

Live albums don’t always sound the greatest for some reason. Mark Vreeken did a great mix capturing the Hip on the final tour

New episode dropped this week, I didn’t see it mentioned on the sub so if you havent checked it out, it’s a good episode with McGinity (although I’d prefer a few less McF bombs lol) and with Keith and Chad.
Surprised with the high ratings. Totally called it when I said you were too harsh on Phantom Power and here we are! M@W is a tough album and for me it has a bunch of songs that I’ll skip. Good songs just not great, especially side B. Pretty sure this is the album that the guys kinda sheepishly mentioned they put some unfinished stuff out there that didn’t quite hit the mark. As the guys said on the episode some good music in there but it didn’t come together with that usual synergy and completeness. I’ll stand by the M@W single though - it’s telling a good story, especially if you watch the video.

My live tour record finally made it to California today, and wow! Haven’t even listened yet, but how about the value for money the Hip give us? Look at all these fucking beautiful glossy photos of them, and the crew, and the gatefold triumph. 😆 Just another reason I feel immensely justified in my love for them as a band and as humans, who care about their fellow humans. Gonna blast this shit tonight! It will likely make me even sadder that I never got to see them live, but mixed in with gratitude that I now have the rest of my life to hear every hidden gem from the vaults. Thank you, you forever shining Canadian diamonds! I love you!

Here in Kingston we are fighting to keep a beautiful 200+ year old oak, and its surrounding forest and marsh, in spite of a local developer's intention to cut it all down and fill in the marsh. Our City's poet laureate Sadiqa de Meijer has written and performed a long and beautiful meditation on this Grandmother Oak, with gorgeous filmmaking by Max Montalvo, who has formerly directed Tragically Hip videos (and is also a surgeon at our local Kingston General!).
For this film, Rob Baker has the credit for recording Sadiqa's voice. Thank you Rob!
Here it is on vimeo:
https://vimeo.com/1227187967?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci
Please watch the film and learn about our local situation. Share it! If you feel moved by it, you could contact our local mayor and council directly with one email: [Mayor&Council@cityofkingston.ca](mailto:Mayor&Council@cityofkingston.ca)
I am sure that our Council would be interested to hear from Hip fans anywhere about the need for conservation of green space in our cities.
You could also visit the Grandmother Oak page on good old Facebook, and add your voice there: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100076959134935
Cheers!

Was really hoping we would hear news about the 30th anniversary release of Trouble at the Henhouse today, but it looks like it was for the musical. Too bad.
Hopefully that is still to come this year.
