(and how it can help you too)
the title and subtitle are a bit tricky, bc I feel like this only applies to trans guys who are under 22😓
I’m 19, preT and have a surprisingly high amount of cispassing most of the time, even though I have a girl’s voice and a feminine face- here is me explaining my experience with it and how it might help you ask well.
when I first came out, cut my hair and decided to begin my social transition, I was faced with a slap in the face in terms of how people would treat me outside, I can’t deny the comfort and willingness to keep exploring it initially came from the opposing INVISIBILITY of going outside and finally feeling like I no longer had to keep a certain front or behavior of what was expected of me as a woman, however, more than feeling “safer outside” I felt safer inside, at home. I had to figure out a number of things and challenging conversations where I had to keep explaining myself to my family over and over again (just mom and sis) and each time I explained the definition was different and I kept facing a new thing I didn’t like about myself and discovering others that also helped me feel more like myself. it took a lot of sacrifice in terms of pride and safe-zone security, but lest to say, for the past few months, I’ve come to realized that I’ve earned my cispassing directly from my confidence in myself.
I don’t believe this is a universal requirement, but I can entirely tell you that in cisgender people, their gender isn’t once questioned when they’re confident in themselves and their behavior as a man or a woman (in a binary system) of course this is accompanied by gender conforming/role conforming or stereotypes and it helps, depending on the culture, but for me, a transman, a transguy, and also a guy who’s a teenager, the confidence in my voice, my stance(even though I carry double D’s) my opinions, my smile, they all end up “helping” me with cispassing.
Honestly I believe it’s because Im sure of who I am now, at least as a trans person, because who really knows themselves fully… if this sounds confusing, I’ll just try to reduce it to a few points.
• be confident, genuinely, you can’t force this and it’ll help if you define your style well and just let loose in acting how you’ve always wanted to or always felt right like you should’ve or always did when you were little, a boy
• deepen your voice, even if it’s preT, if you’re a teen it won’t even be too bad
• don’t be afraid to correct people, tell them you’re a man/boy/dude/guy
• ignore people when misgendered. this is the funniest one because if you really feel like yourself, then you won’t turn at names that don’t belong to you, if somebody calls out “Luna” and that’s not your name- why would you turn? Same thing applies to cis people’s logic, if somebody yells out “Hey lady in the yellow” and you’re not even a lady or wearing yellow, why turn?
using this logic, transphobes or ignorant people looking to fuck with you will realize you don’t care bc you didn’t hear them bc that’s not you, therefore will probably feel ashamed and think/realize they misgendered someone, even if they assume you’re cis after that.
• good binding and a good haircut (i feel like these are obvious, but JUST these two won’t get you cispassing, and no, it’s not face structure either look at me bro be so fr)
• be you :)) for trans men, specifically myself, being stupid, being loud, being nasty and being energetic and confident is what makes me feel like myself in my masculinity, even though a woman can be all of these things and not be transgender
You can’t beat dysphoria and gender identity tho, so I’m very sure im not a confused teen girl anymore loll
anyways thanks for reading gng, have a great day
