Political Question Isn't Trump going to say the Mid-terms were rigged if he loses in any way?

That's what he did with the 2020 election. Biden won, but Trump kept saying it was rigged.

With food and shelter covered, I’d want something to keep me busy. A whole year alone is a long time.

General Question If women are supposed to identify dangerous men before getting hurt, how are we supposed to do that without offending harmless men?

Im curious how people reconcile two expectations I see placed on women, because they seem quite incompatible.

From a young age, many women are taught to take precautions around unfamiliar men. We’re told to watch our drinks, avoid isolated situations, recognize warning signs, be careful who we trust, and exercise judgment about who we allow into our lives.

These precautions aren’t based on the belief that most men are dangerous. They’re based on the fact that we cant reliably determine which individuals might be dangerous before getting to know them.

Yet I’ve noticed that many men interpret women taking these precautions as making a judgment about their specific character.

If a woman crosses the street at night, a man might interpret that as her deciding he’s personally threatening. If she covers her drink, he might interpret it as an accusation that he would drug her. If she declines an offer for a ride, he might feel that she’s unfairly assuming he has bad intentions.

But it’s a distinction that gets overlooked.

“I don’t know whether you’re safe” isnt the same statement as “I believe you’re dangerous.” When I cross the street to avoid an unfamiliar man at night, I’m not necessarily making a judgment about him singularly. I don’t know anything about him and that’s the point.

I’m making a general precautionary decision in a situation where I have limited information and where the consequences of misjudging someone’s intentions could be serious.

If he’s perfectly harmless, which he probably is, I’ve taken a small precaution that wasn’t necessary in hindsight. If he isn’t, that precaution might have helped me avoid a dangerous situation.

That doesn’t mean every precaution is equally reasonable, that women are incapable of unfairly stereotyping men, or that men are wrong to feel uncomfortable when they believe someone is afraid of them.

It means that someone’s discomfort with a precaution doesn’t, by itself, establish that the precaution was unreasonable or an accusation of wrongdoing.
And this brings me to the second part of the contradiction.

In conversations about dating and relationships, I frequently encounter the argument that women need to “take accountability” for choosing men who eventually mistreat them.

If a boyfriend cheats, people ask why she didn’t recognize his character sooner.

If a man abandons his responsibilities as a father, people ask why she chose to have children with him.

If a relationship becomes abusive, people question why she didn’t notice the warning signs or leave earlier.

To be clear, I absolutely believe adults should use judgment in their relationships, recognize warning signs when possible, and reflect on their decisions. Women aren’t exempt from personal responsibility, and there are situations where someone knowingly ignores serious problems.

But being responsible for your own choices isnt the same as being responsible for another adult’s decision to lie, cheat, abandon their children, or abuse someone.

We can acknowledge that people should make informed decisions without transferring moral responsibility for someone else’s actions onto them.

More importantly, if the expectation is that women should be better at identifying potentially harmful partners before they’re harmed, then surely that requires allowing women to exercise some caution and selectivity in the first place.

If a woman trusts someone who later mistreats her, she’s told she should’ve been more careful.

If she exercises caution around someone who turns out to be harmless, she may be told she’s unfairly suspicious.

If she overlooks warning signs, she’s got poor judgment.

If she screens people carefully, shes distrustful or assuming the worst.

If she doesn’t protect herself, she’s told to take responsibility for her safety.

If she does protect herself, now she’s making blameless men feel bad.

I’m not claiming every man makes both arguments, that these reactions are equally common, or that any particular man who advocates personal responsibility necessarily objects to women’s precautions.

I’m saying how can both expectations realistically be applied together?

Because theres a fundamental problem with expecting women to identify dangerous men without ever making harmless men feel unfairly distrusted:

You cant reliably distinguish a dangerous stranger from a harmless one when you have basically no information.

Someone can appear friendly, respectful, and trustworthy while concealing harmful intentions. someone who initially appears intimidating may be harmless.

That uncertainty is why precautions exist in the first place.

The purpose of a precaution isn’t to establish that someone is guilty. It’s to reduce exposure to a potential risk when you don’t have enough information to rule it out.

People lock their doors without believing their neighbors are burglars. They avoid leaving valuables unattended without believing everyone nearby is a thief. They decline to share personal information with strangers without assuming every stranger intends to exploit them.

We generally understand that taking precautions against possible misconduct isn’t equivalent to accusing a particular individual of intending to commit it.

I do think men are entitled to have feelings about these interactions. Absolutely I can see how Being perceived as potentially threatening when you have no intention of hurting anyone would be hurtful.

But having an understandable emotional reaction doesn’t mean another person wronged you or is obligated to change their boundaries to not make you feel bad.

So I’m interested in what people think women should do in these situations, rather than simply being told they should have known better after something goes wrong.

General Question How is Inflation Not Giving People Enough Sticker Shock to Stop Shopping?

With insane inflation (greed) doubling or tripling prices over the past decade, I've stopped buying a lot of nonessential things. I'm not talking about necessities like food, medicine, or basic clothing. I'm talking about electronics, concerts, movies, nicer clothes, and other entertainment and consumer goods.

I can afford to spend more, but I'm so offended by prices that I refuse on principle. I'll see a sweater I like for $90 and close the page because a nice sweater should cost $40. Or a band I like will charge $130 for tickets that cost $50 a few years ago. I make enough money that I can afford it, but fuck that. I'm not paying those prices.

What is going to take for people to stop shopping? It seems like most Americans will just keep spending until they run out of money and max out their credit cards. I feel like that is why corporations can get away with charging these excessive prices.

General Question Is bollywood capable of making good movies?

• Upvotes

Nowadays many Indian movies are running around the narrative of global recognition, trying to get into oscars and comparing it's releases with hollywood industry. But what does it lack in general? There's the over acting, unrealistic set, glorified actors and no character development of other actors, unusual stunts and mostly non sensical song and dance insertions. Many trying to be serious movies also fail in originality, have over acting and over dramatisation of simple scenes. The editing, the transition between scenes, the cuts are messy and obvious. No sequencing like hollywood, just plain linear story with everything of the plot being spoon fed to the audience through half wit dialogues. Please suggest some good ones that came out recently because I'm unable to find any. It's like a 6/10 hollywood movie beats a 8-9/10 bollywood by scores.

General Question What is it called when you have different versions of yourself that make up your whole self?

• Upvotes

Not DID. I’m fairly certain this is a universal human experience.

A brief explanation of what I’m trying to convey: The you that might hang with friends may be different than the you that hangs out with close friends and family. And that version of you may be different than who you are alone. And that version may have its own individualized bits too! Like, you might have a grand interest in long, detailed video essays about human psychology but another “part” of you might be more interested in watching skeletons run around a Christmas tree. And another “part” of you might just hate YouTube all together!

They’re not so much individualized people sharing one headspace. Rather it’s more like multiple facets of yourself that can be range from similarly angled to completely contradictory. The different parts of us that make us complex, round characters.

Not DID, but I don’t think it’s as simple as just being “emotions”. Like the human conscience being constructed out of multiple different concepts and ideas that construct a whole identity.

Hope I explained this all well enough, let em know about any questions you may have or if I should elaborate/explain something better

General Question Is this right?

A guy who I liked invited me to stay the night at his place. I initially thought he was inviting me over for intimacy. But he told me I could sleep in his spare room. And nothing intimate happened while I was awake. So I assumed he didn't want that and went to sleep in his spare room while he slept in his room. Later that night I woke up to him touching my chest. My psychologist says what he did is wrong and the way he went about getting intimacy from me is wrong when he should have just asked me for it while awake and I would have said yes. When I asked him about what happened that night he said I am liar and that nothing happened then blocked me. This incident has really affected me coz we were friends for 4 years prior to this incident happening. I am confused why he didn't just ask me for intimacy while I was a awake? And why did he say i am a liar and blocked me when what happened did happen?

Me 36 (F) him 56 (M)

General Question I’ve noticed weirdly higher empathy in myself and I’m wondering why?

So this is probably an odd question but I’m 22m and I’ve just noticed weirdly higher empathy? But not just With people but also movies make me sad way easier, songs and books can make me tear up now in was that is pretty foreign to me. I’ve noticed this as a trend after breakup from a rough relationship back in February but I just don’t understand why I’m just feeling so much more?
