So my idea was that if the Stargazer was exploring space for an extended time and had to deal with prolonged celestial element exposure, that damage/weathering would compound over time.
By the way…I hate stickers and this kit’s look relies heavily on them.
The actual build feels simple even by HG standards. Only one set of hands are provided which is a bummer. However for what it lacks in building challenge, it makes up for it with the ring gimmick. The completed kit looks great but needs an update with an alternative to the foil stickers, something like the replaceable pre printed clear pieces that comes with the Aerial Witch From Mercury kits. Still, the finished kit has an aura and shelf presence.
Started off with grey liquid panel liner but switched to a grey Gundam marker. The stickers cover up a lot of the panel lines so it was a quick job.
After panel lining and applying stickers, I used a silver chrome pen to do the exposure damage on the edges of the build as if paint was being torn away during an encounter with space debris, etc. I used silver weathering powder on the grey mechanical portions and hands to give it a slight sparkle.
Then 2 semi gloss topcoats were applied followed by three coats of TS-65 Pearl Clear to give it a bit of a shimmer. After that dried, some final detail weathering and then sealed up with another spray of semi-gloss.
I’m going to put up property lit display pictures later but this is 99% finished.
