Mod Post A Change in Discourse

Hello everyone!

We have an update we'd like to share with you all regarding how we discuss a few topics here on r/MtF.

We have noticed a growing trend of words, phrases, and discourse that originates from several different online spaces which do not share the same set of rules we have established here in our home.  We all have come to expect transphobia from the outside, and you make us proud by being quick to report posts or comments that break our rules.  Your consistent efforts in keeping our community safe are not taken for granted and it truly does help us moderate a subreddit of this size quickly and efficiently.

Transphobia from within the community is more complex and challenging to moderate at times.  We have taken steps today to guide us all along a path towards a healthier community discourse, and we will be relying on your continued support in this endeavor.

Containment of Dysphoric & Transphobic Language

Each subreddit exists for a specific purpose.  This subreddit is dedicated for transfeminine people to have a space of our own to discuss our lives as it relates to being trans.  We have established a set of rules we hold ourselves to that serves as our guide in protecting this space.  There are other subreddits which have their own set of rules and expectations that work for their communities, but management of dysphoric and transphobic language is one such rule that we are expanding in Rule #3 Be Respectful.

Going forward, we will be removing posts and comments that contain slang words or phrases that tear ourselves or each other down on the basis of transness.  Other spaces are free (and have their own reasons) to converse as they see fit, but it will not continue here.

In addition, discussions of several other communities consistently pull in an influx of people from those communities and lead to conflict here; to prevent this, we will also be removing posts or comments that name those communities.

Expanding Rule #3

Starting today, Rule #3 will additionally cover:

  • Self-imposed or weaponized dysphoric words & phrases used in various online spaces (4chan, X/Twitter, Transmedical, etc.)
  • Links to the above spaces or communities

The ability to link to several subreddits and some websites has been removed, but the list is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Any posts or comments that mention words or phrases that go against this rule will be filtered or removed, based on their context.  This too is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Users who intentionally attempt to circumvent the rule are subject to temporary and permanent bans, which will be handled by moderator discretion.

As our head moderator said 7 months ago,

"Going forward, our focus is simple: keep this a space where people feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves without fear. We’ll keep listening, keep improving, and keep showing up for you—but we need your help in doing the same for each other. Take care of yourselves, take care of one another, and let’s move ahead together."

Venting Whoever created the microscopic hook-and-loop design on bras—

I would like to handshake their face with a shovel.

I've recently started to transition so I've been adding more feminine clothes into my wardrobe. I'm unfamiliar with female clothe sizes, so my first non-pullover bra is giving me absolute conniptions as I try and contort myself to hook the little hooks through the even tinier eyelets. I ended up just putting the strap together and pulling it over my head like a sports bra.

Discussion Being a Tomboy as a Trans Woman Can Make Passing Harder Than You Think

I feel like this is unpopular advice, but if passing is genuinely important to you, you cannot always approach presentation the exact same way a cis woman can

A cis woman can throw on men’s jeans, a huge hoodie, no makeup, a baseball cap, and deliberately masculinize herself and still usually be read as female because people are picking up on a hundred other sexed cues. A trans woman, especially early in transition or if she’s already somewhat androgynous, may not have that same margin for error yet

And I see women get frustrated because they’re consistently being misgendered while also intentionally choosing clothes, hair, grooming, and styling that obscure virtually every feminine cue they have. At some point you have to be willing to experiment

Wear the feminine outfit. Shape your brows. Learn what makeup actually flatters your face instead of deciding “makeup doesn’t work on me” after three attempts. Try different hairstyles. Figure out your proportions. Wear jewelry. Pay attention to silhouettes. None of this means you need to become a hyperfeminine caricature of yourself, and obviously femininity is not what makes someone a woman. But presentation absolutely affects how strangers sex you

I also think, for some trans women, the “I’m just a tomboy” thing can become armor. Dressing femininely feels vulnerable because now you’re actually trying. If you try and still get misgendered, that hurts more than being able to tell yourself you weren’t trying anyway. So you retreat into oversized masculine clothes and act like caring about passing would somehow make you shallow

But you might genuinely be surprised by what happens when you give yourself permission to try.
You may think you “could never pass” when you have never actually seen yourself with flattering hair, properly applied makeup, shaped brows, clothes cut for your body, and a presentation designed to emphasize the feminine features you already have

And yes, once you consistently pass, you often have much more freedom to play with androgyny or dress like a tomboy without it changing how people perceive you. But getting there can require learning femininity first

You do not have to dress femininely. You do not have to wear makeup. You do not even have to care about passing

But if passing is something you desperately want, stop treating effort like betrayal. Experiment. Give femininity a genuine chance. You might be much closer than you think

Should I tell him the secret to growing his chest???

Discussion what games are you playing that feel gender affirming

at week 26 of hrt and looking for more games to play where i can feel feminine. i'm pretty isolated right now, living in a men's rehab so im scared to be openly femme here

so far ive loved stardew valley, palia, and animal crossing for domestic bliss and cyberpunk for the dating and detailed character creation. my life at sandrock looks promising

some games have gorgeous female playable characters but its not always easy to search for them on that basis

for example dune awakening is an MMO action rpg that has beautiful graphics and female playable characters. oblivion remastered,

any recommendations? i'm on switch 2

Euphoria Got boob envy from my trans friend

So, I've been out for almost six years and on hormones for two. They came out two years ago and went on hormones about a year ago.

Last night they were wearing a top that really showed off their boob growth and cleavage and they've definitely surpassed me. Which, happy for them and a bit envious. And then realizing this morning that that's probably the same sort of feeling a lot of teenage girls have when their friends are more blessed by the boob fairy.

Also haven't had that same experience for my other girl friends, cis or trans. I think it's specifically the fact that theirs have grown past mine when we're on a similar timeline that did it. Everyone else just has always had those at that size so I'll admire but this one hit differently.

Definitely one of the weirder moments of gender euphoria for me so far.

Advice Question Any Chinese-Americans here?

I don't know what to expect when I start taking estrogen(not any time soon), of how my face would change. When I search up MTF all I see is white MTF, however I rarely see Asians and people that have similar builds.

If there any any of yall that are around 205lbs (93kg) and 175cm (5'8) here with a chubbier face. Please up your fellow comrade.

Discussion Temp tolerance changes?

So call me crazy but am i the only one whos noticed changes in my temp tolerances? Pre hrt I hated the heat and loved the cold. Like I used to wear jeans and a t-shirt unless there was a snowstorm. I also used to complain anytime the temp was over 60 degrees. Now its like 40 degrees out and im about to grab my winter coat. Not even to mention 90 degrees is just comfy for me now. Anyone else notice this?

Relationships How do I feel less guilty about seeing a cis lesbian?

So for a few weeks now I've been sleeping with a cis lesbian. She seems really into me, but I still feel really guilty. I feel like a predator. I feel like a creep. I feel like I've somehow tricked her or something. Or like I'm taking advantage of her maybe.

Obviously I'm not being a creep. Obviously she's into me. Obviously I'm not doing anything wrong. I know all this but I still feel like I am. I think all the transphobia and rhetoric about us being predatory has been getting to me

Advice Question For those who have been on HRT for more than 3 years, how did your timeline compare to the 'average'?

I'm sure we've all various timelines for typical changes to occur, but I'm wondering what everyone's personal experience is after 3+ Years of HRT.

My personal experience after 4 years of HRT (It's my Anniversary on October 18th / Tomorrow)

- Breast growth started within a couple of months, and was quite gradual, I still find I experience some growth now but it's much slower. If I compare a photo from say 6 months ago VS now I can see a slight increase in size. I don't wear bras to correlate that, but friends seem to agree.

- Body fat distribution took a few months to start, and is gradual, but I've found it especially noticeably in my face. I get new glasses every 1-2 years and there's always a frame that suits me better than my current ones, and when I show people a photo of when I first got the old ones they say that used to suit better then but my face shape has changed so much they don't quite suit the same anymore. I've unfortunately noticed minimal difference in my butt shape, but my thighs are definitely thicker.

- Libido is a very inconsistent one, it goes up and down a lot and similar goes for erections. I've also found similar with ejaculation, probably once or twice a year it seemingly changes in volume, consistency etc despite good hormone levels.

- Skin changes - Very obvious within just a few months and generally my skin is very soft, but is more prone to drying out and I get razor cuts more.

- Hair Growth, everywhere grows slower and less thick, with a couple of patches where it doesn't seem to grow at all now like my thighs. Irritatingly that has made IPL more difficult because there's not as much pigment in my hairs now so I've ended up with patchy results.

Discussion Confused drugstore staff asked me if I need a women razor blades

Yesterday I went out to buy a razor while boymoding maybe just light sunscreen and foundation. After struggling to find them for a few minutes I asked the staff where the razors are. They went umm.. then "for men/women"? I wasn't expecting such question and answered for men is fine since my facial hair is still a bit thick (laser hair removal in progress). They guided me to the area and pointed at another shelf saying "they are for women.. just in case". Not sure if it was my appearance but I wonder if I continue HRT and get serious about dressing and voice training I could pass in the future. Although I couldn't even dream about it initially and just happy with current progress.

Euphoria First time in the women's bathroom..

Couldn't really think of an appropriate flair for this but I guess euphoria fits the most. I'm about 3 hours out from Virginia after driving about 14 hours from Texas. My boyfriend has been handling the driving because I would literally never be able to do this for a multitude of reasons.

We've made several stops (including my first visit to Buc-ee's) for gas, food, etc and to use the bathroom. Our most recent stop was at a rest area at the edge of Tennessee and I had been holding it in for a good several hours because there was no way I was using one of the bathrooms there despite how wonderful they apparently are; it was just way too packed.

So I let my boyfriend go in first and waited until he came out, but guy after guy kept going in and I'm one of those weirdos that can't really use the bathroom if someone else is there. But it was already getting dark and I'm terrified of us driving at night and I noticed no one had gone into the women's bathroom, my boyfriend could tell I was looking over there and told me I was fine to go in there. I hesitated for as long as I could but I couldn't take it any longer and said "f*ck it" and went in.

Thankfully no one else was in there and it was indeed a bathroom, nothing glamorous or out of the ordinary... even still my heart couldn't stop racing so almost as soon as I entered and went I washed my hands and didn't even bother drying them.

It was only a couple of minutes but it was still incredibly unnerving and I'm not sure if I should have even done so in the first place or the next time I'll do it again, if ever. I don't think I pass, even with makeup on, and I believe if someone would have walked in on me in there it would have gotten ugly. But I did it; for the first time in my life I used the women's bathroom.

Advice Question Would it be wrong to go against my parents wishes and go on HRT early?

Earlier this year I (20 MTF) came to terms with the fact that I'm trans and have wanted to go on HTR ever since, focusing on losing body fat, building muscle, learning makeup and changing my appearance while taking HRT seems easier than doing it all at separate times and it feels like I'd achieve my desired appearance sooner that way, but after coming out to my parents they both think I should wait at least a year before I start even thinking about HRT in case I change my mind in that time, but I know that even if I do change my mind about being trans, I'd still never want to go back to being seen as a cis man and would still be happy with the changes HRT would've already done to my body.

so would it be wrong to start taking HTR and not tell them?

Sex talk I feel like people just wanna fuck but don’t want get to know me

• Upvotes

They talk about what they wanna do to me but don’t ask questions like my hobbies or what I’m good at. It’s not like they keep it modest either. Just straight up vulgar comment. Just straight up only interested in when I’m free. I wanna be treated like a lady not a joy toy.

Milestone! Got my bottom surgery today!

Hi everyone! Currently sitting in my hospital room after bottom surgery! Yay! My left hand is still completely numb so may be some typos.

I tried to get into the Suporn clinic for 3 different cycles but never got in, and my bottom dysphoria was starting to bother me more and more recently; so I started looking into different options.

A friend of mine told me about his sister getting her surgery done at The APS clinic, and she got her surgery done only 3 months after initial contact!!! (unheard of!)

So I reached out to the clinic on Sep 22. We went over my medical history and they sent me a huge document with all the info on the procedures they offer and everything. I was planning to do the penile inversion technique at the Suporn clinic, but looking through these options the colon vaginoplasty looked nicer. We scheduled an online consultation for that week, which we did over google meet. I talked to my surgeon, another doctor at APS, and the international 'liaison', adam, who is super nice and worked with me a lot more throughout the process. Affter the consulration i put down a 20% down payment by wire transfer and we scheduled my surgery for oct 17th.

I immediately quit my HRT cold turkey, quit nicotine cold turkey, and started tapering off my antidepressant and anxiety meds. You would always do this a month before your surgery but since mine was so close i did it immediately.

I talked with adam to get my accommodation package set up and wired the money for that (APS offers 3 different packages. I am alone in Thailand for the surgery so I bought the biggest package to make my trip easy as can be)

At this point it was basically just time to wait for the surgery. My flights were not included in the package so I waited for him to tell me what day I needed to get there and then scheduled my flights accordingly. I did the two thailand required psychiatric evaluations over google meets, APS set those meets up for me which was very stress-free.

I flew out to thailand, arrived oct 15 met a driver at the airport and got a SIM card for my phone, then the driver took me to the hotel. I signed into my room and because of my package my accommodation team delivered me some (delicious) pad thai and I spent the rest of the day at the hotel. Adam came to see me in person at about 4pm after I checked into the hotel and we talked about what to expect and he had a gift basket. the whole thing has been very nice and the team seems like they really care.

I hung out at the hotel, went to bed nice and early at 9PM and slept like a rock after all the traveling. The hotel room was very nice I am happy with the accommodation package so far. I couldn't eat or drink after midnight because I had a blood test on the 16th. I got picked up at 10AM on the 16th to do my final consultation with the surgeon, we went over all the details and she very quickly checked my genitals, then I signed a bunch of documents and went back to the hotel.

I was to get picked up from the hotel at 3pm for the blood tests, and since my surgery was early morning they had me stay the night at the hospital. So I packed all my stuff, showered, and they picked me up and took me to the hospital. I got an xray and got my blood drawn while I went over medical history and signed all the surgery releases. At this point it was 4pm and they let me order hospital food for my dinner. I got a thai omelette with rice and green eggplant+chicken curry which was super delicious, but I'd recommend not doing what I did because I threw most of it up when I had to do the bowel cleanse at 6PM. The bowel cleanse suckkkked, the hardest part was forcing myself to drink 2 litres of that saltwater and it was just nauseating, But I managed it.

I slept like a baby again and woke up while the nurses were coming in and out of the room to do the last preparations, got my blood pressure checked a bunch. A nurse gave me a bottle of special soap and I showered and then they put in my IV and rolled me to the OR. I got an injection in my spine that numbed my lower body and stopped me from moving it and then the anesthesologist pushed the stuff while I breathed in. The anesthesia hurt like hell, felt like lava in my hand but I was out real quick after.

I don't remember when I woke up but I was already back in my hospital room when I started to really be conscious, I slept off and on for many many hours. At around 4-6PM I started to decide to stop napping and asked the nurses for my bag and I've been hanging out on my laptop and the TV and msging people on my phone. My legs have been in this massage pump thing to keep the blood flowing and it feels ticklish but also really good, I can pretty much feel my legs and feet normally now. My left hand is still very asleep on the middle, index, and thumb but after all this typing it's definitely improving. My right hand has been similar but much better all day.

I'm super thirsty, I can't wait to drink a nice cold beverage, water or soda or whatever. The IV is hydrating but my throat is pretty parched. For a few hours after I really woke up, my stomach was cramped hard the way it feels when your bladder is super full and you have to pee NOW. I don't know if it had anything to do with pee because I have a catheter in and also couldn't really feel much down there. But things are feeling better now, like a dull 5 on the pain scale.

It's currently 10PM and im just chillaxing on my laptop now, things are pretty good.

Trigger Warning Going to start tracking how many times my male coworkers get called sir 🙄

• Upvotes

Today, I believe I really upset an alpha male by very non-chalantly asking him to not vape in the store. I mean I was straight up like “Heyyyy I don’t even care but they make me say it I’m sorry :/ but it’s okay you’re fine just please don’t again” and then I experienced one of those weird moments where they just kinda yell sir over and over again, kinda shit I only thought existed on IG reels. Weird moment and honestly kinda comedic to me because I actually personally don’t care what pronouns people use for me, my identity and transition are more of an internal thing for me. But what hurt was that someone was trying to hurt me if that makes sense?

Then there are those other times where, even in the south, I internally am thinking “Idk man this is a lot of sirs I feel like you’re trying really hard to say that right now, and you seem kinda weird about it” but idk if those times are in my head or not, I’m sure it’s a mix of both.

But I think I’m going to start keeping track of how often the men I work with are called sir in an interaction with other men. Because now that I think about it, I really feel like these mf are trying to make a point 😭 If my “findings” are that people are fuckin with me I’m going to wear a full face of makeup everyday or something, whatever I can do to piss em off a little more. I can be me till the day I die and I want to spend the rest of my life making idiots uncomfortable tbh. Feel pretty good about this season of my life tbh and I’m glad I’m happy with myself and even feeling “combative” like this, bc there was a time this would’ve hurt me on a way different level. i don’t know if i’m even hurt about today or just sad about what it says about people.

But we fucking can't! A cisgender POS woman harassed me about being in the women's after i grabbed something I needed to mop up. Like no shit it's the women's, I ain't cleaning the men's because I had three different men comment about my chest without my consent but me trying to clean the restroom is wrong?

Also don't tell me to"jUsT mOvE oUt Of FlOrIdA" because I'm literally living paycheck to paycheck! I don't pass in voice so I don't talk much or to anyone for that matter I have the worst time making eye contact. Like what the fuck?

Also fuck you delta flight agent I hope you smash your toes into something.

Help I hit my 1 year mark on HRT yesterday and I’m honestly disappointed

The first 6 months felt like feeling sun on your skin after a never ending winter, the last 6 months have felt like absolute plateau with no change. I’ve tried so hard. I’ve gotten good at makeup and dressing myself, I’ve grown my hair out and take care of it. I have a skincare routine that I do every day. But every time I look in that mirror I see the same fucking person I was before. Yeah I look a little different for sure, but I don’t pass, not even fucking close. My chest seems to have stopped growing, and my figure refuses to change, my hips are marginally wider and my ass is bigger and maybe I’ve had some fat redistribution in my face, but every time I see myself all I can focus on are the ugly parts. My double chin, my flared ribs, my shoulders, my stomach fat that refuses to leave no matter how little I eat.

Like yes, has my life improved in some ways? Absolutely. But it hasn’t changed the way I see myself. It feels like people can say I’m pretty or say that “oh all you need to do to pass is voice train and improve your mannerisms” but like deep down my brain is just screaming that it’s lies and cope. I want to be pretty, I want to be seen as a woman and surprise them when they find out I’m trans, not the fact that they see me and go “oh a transgender” and then tiptoe around me like I’m liable to fucking go crazy at any moment. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do here, I just need honest opinions from people who aren’t worried about how it’ll affect my self image. It’s already rock bottom anyway, so it’s not like it can get worse right?

I’m supposed to start prog soon, and I’m waiting on bloodwork to come back but like, if this is how I’m gonna be stuck forever do I just have to accept that I’m always going to be clocky? I know people will say not to care and to just be yourself but at the end of the day what am I supposed to do with that other than just let it consume me alive.

Venting I love my boyfriend less and less

I realised who I truly am 3 weeks ago so I asked my boyfriend if he would love me if I was trans, he said no and every day I've been loving him less and less and I don't know what to do. I don't want to lose him but I can't keep doing this anymore.
