Fluff Gabe Newell honored all the 3,000 people who built his $500 million megayacht Leviathan by having their names etched on a massive glass wall in the main staircase
Annnd here's the article I got this from. Apparently it's a tribute to how Bill Gates credited him in Windows 1.0.
News Steam pushes another update to improve startup performance further.
Just found this kinda funny.

Discussion Steam's NEW streaming codec - at 4K - tested with Lag/image quality/gameplay tests - PyroWave now on the stable Steam client, streamed to Steam Deck - comparing to Moonlight. What's your setup?
PyroWave is on the stable Steam client! I like it a lot, and I tested it by streaming from PC to my Steam Deck and outputting to a 4K monitor. I used a custom 240 fps lag test timer, a sustained gameplay test, and an image quality test. I also tested it vs Moonlight (Vibepollo/nonary moonlight fork). It's a lot of data, but here are the results!
Lag test (4K60 → Steam Deck LCD, median)
| Link | Moonlight (HEVC) | Steam (PyroWave) |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI cable, no streaming | 0 frames | 0 frames |
| Ethernet | 17 ms · 1 frame | 17 ms · 1 frame |
| Wi-Fi 6E | 17 ms · 1 frame | 50 ms · 3 frames |
Gameplay test (FF7 Remake Intergrade, host logs ingested/aggregated)
| Link | Moonlight (HEVC) | Steam (PyroWave) |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet | ~59 fps · 86 Mbit/s · stutter at ~2 min | 60 fps · 330 Mbit/s · no stutter |
| Wi-Fi 6E | ~58 fps · 89 Mbit/s · stutter at ~2 min | 60 fps · 329 Mbit/s · no stutter |
Image quality test (VMAF 0–100, capture control = 94.5, same on both links)
| Score | Moonlight (HEVC) | Steam (PyroWave) |
|---|---|---|
| Overall | 81 | 80 |
| Gameplay | 82 | 82 |
| Gameplay, worst 1% of frames | 58 | 78 |
| Desktop text | 80 | 73 |
Opinion based on the data and the "feel"
For ethernet - I prefer PyroWave even though the frame lag was close - the picture just looked a little smoother and a little better to me! But I was impressed by Moonlight's latency optimizations for HEVC.
For wifi - unless you're really confident in your wireless setup I'd recommend Moonlight's HEVC (or Steam's) for most people you're going to have a better time. I put a lot of effort into improving my wireless network, but I still couldn't get the latency as low as I'd like. But I still prefer the PyroWave picture on wifi

Question Why is that when I am searching in a Workshop for a game the search auto generates and kicks me out of typing after like a second?
Hi, new to this side of PC gaming but it is extremely frustrating. It doesn't seem to matter if I am using a controller or mouse or keyboard. Is there something I am missing? Is this a feature not a bug? As I am typing out a long search strong I am kicked out of the search field four or five times. I type in a character or two and then focus on the field is lost and results pop up and I have to select the search box again and type a couple more characaters. This makes me want to never engage with mods ever.

Question Is it possible to keep a fixed featured tile in Steam Big Picture’s “Recent Games” carousel?
I’d like to customize the Recent Games carousel on the Steam Big Picture home screen.
My idea is to keep the large horizontal tile on the left fixed in the same position and at the same size. When I move right using a controller, the next game should appear in that featured tile, while the other games shift left to fill the row.
I’ve already tried making this change with CSS Loader and Millennium, but I don’t know how to program, so I couldn’t get it to work.
There’s another detail: Steam uses different images for horizontal and vertical game tiles. So this change would also need to replace the selected game’s vertical image with its corresponding horizontal image. It wouldn’t be enough to simply enlarge or move the vertical tile.
Is this possible? Is there an easy way to do it, or would it be so complicated that it might not be worth attempting?

Question Compatibility settings in Family Mode
Can somebody please explain to me why Steam has suddenly decided to lock setting the compatibility settings of games in Family mode? I'm not seeing any setting that obviously restores the ability to change it. Why, of all things, is this being locked without the ability to change it?
If a game works better on an earlier version of Proton that little Timmy has installed, he should be freely able to change what version of Proton he's using. Or if he wants to switch from a native version that's broken to an actually usable proton layer.
The only setting I can think of that *might* grant access is the "My online profile" setting. But that's only because of a lack of other feasible settings. This feels like such a pointless change.

Question steam achievement
Steam currently has a blue achievement icon for the base game and a purple one for game DLCs.
Do you think they should design another icon for players who have completed both the base game and all its DLCs, or would that be overkill?
