Discussion/General Second body useful?

Hi

Before covid, I saw many posts saying that events photographer needs to have a second camera body and using it

Now except photojournalist, I don't see posts, YouTube videos about people using the second body.

Has this trend fallen out of favor, or has it simply become a tool that is only useful when problems arise?

First time shooting SOOC Jpegs - and I set up a look I like but I know how divisive that can be on Reddit.

Discussion/General I did it. I ordered the z8. Now how do I travel with it securely?

Heading to the Galapagos and mainland Ecuador in February. I’ve never done extensive travelling with a big camera, and obviously this being new and expensive I’m super paranoid about it being damaged or stolen.

For flying I plan to pack it in my suitcase (in my nikon bag) with lots of clothes around, maybe a towel packed into the Nikon bag itself to help protect it. Also going to be buying some kind of waterproof set up/cover for it (if anyone has any recommendations feel free to comment them below!).

I did buy a 3 year warranty with it that I believe covers water damage and accidental damage. I am also afraid of it being stolen, I don’t plan to take it out with us while we’re on the mainland walking around Quito, just the Galapagos and the 4 day tour we’re doing in the Amazon.

If anyone has any recommendations/has travelled with expensive gear before would love to hear about your experience!

Which lenses should I get to achieve these looks? I am looking at the Lumix S 28-200m and 85mm? Should I buy both or just one? or any other lenses I should consider? There is quite a few different looks I am going for so I'm trying to get the right lenses first before looking at camera settings and everything else.

Printing/Publishing Question about photo-repro production method?

In the 1960s through to the 1980s a common method used by film, theatre, and performing arts companies to produce multiple copies of photographs of their productions for publicity use by magazines and newspapers was the process known here in the UK as 'photo-repro'. It produced mostly 10" x 8" black and white glossy prints on thin paper in very large quantities very quickly.
The prints appear to be genuine photographs - there's no sign of any screen, but I've never been able to discover how the process worked. Has anybody any ideas?

AIUTATEMI VI PREGO

Discussion/General Having a hard time finding photo cart / gallery software to fit our needs .. help?

• Upvotes

TLDR Looking for a photo cart that lets us customize included ($0) digital files and prints per client, independently of our standard pricelists, while allowing clients to select their included images and purchase upgrades.

---

We're looking for a photo cart system for our portrait clients and are struggling to find one that handles our specific needs.

Our biggest requirement is the ability to offer included products or files that clients can select themselves, while still allowing them to purchase upgrades.

For example, a client’s package might include 8 high-res digital files and one 8x10 print. They should be able to select their 8 included images, then purchase additional files or prints if they wish.

Here's how we currently handle this:

We have a general pricelists for digital file upgrades, prints, and other products, which we apply to individual galleries. Separately, we manually add a checklist of $0 items to each gallery (e.g., 8 included digital files and one included 8x10 print). Clients add these to their cart, select their included images, and add any paid purchases they want.

The problem: We need to customize these included items independently of our standard pricelists. For example, we might need to add an 8x10 to a particular client's package or change their included files from 8 to 10 without affecting the general pricelist.

We offer a wide range of session packages with different combinations of included products, and the products available for purchase can also vary by session type.

Has anyone found a photo cart that handles this kind of flexibility? I've looked into some of the bigger names, like Pixieset and Zenfolio, in the past, but couldn't find a solution that worked for us.

Gear/Accessories Inconsistency with Prism Lens FX?

I purchased my first Nostalgia filter by Prism Lens FX in 2024. I absolutely loved it and pretty much kept it on my camera full time. I liked that it gave my photos a bit of an edge or a look. I just bought another to fit my 70-200mm lens to keep my photos looking consistent when changing lenses or using separate camera bodies and lenses. The new nostalgia filter is very different from the original. The yellow color is lighter/less saturated than the original which I don’t mind, but the haze on the new filter is SO much heavier. Was hoping to have a more consistent look using these filters but I’m taking it up with their customer service. I asked if they changed manufacturers because even the text on the ring of the filter is different. Hopefully I just got a dud. If not, I’m going to try to exchange both filters for 1/4 dream filters. As a customer, I think it’s unfair to order the same product and get very different results. The photos are from my iPhone but you can still see the difference. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello, beginner here ✋️

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around shutter speed, wouldn't faster always be better? It seems like when I adjust it on my camera the preview gets darker or lighter?

Lens Buying Advice Which lens for an upgrade?

Hey!

I have a Sony a6400 + Sony 18–135mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS. I’m a beginner.

I got a gift of 800 EUR to buy a lens. I could spend more if needed (up to ~1200). I like travel photography, particularly landscape, mountaineering, and portrait.

Which lens would you buy with this budget, and for what? Given that I already have the 18-135.

Thanks!

Camera Buying Advice Need advice on upgrading canon system?

Hi all! I’m currently looking to buy a new canon camera for my amateur freelance photography. I’ve been shooting for about eight years with my only camera at the moment, the Canon EOS Rebel T6. I’ve gotten a couple additional lenses for my camera over the last couple years, as I have gotten more business with family and friends doing different sessions (senior portraits, engagements, studio, etc).
So I’ve been looking at getting another camera since my T6 has its own minor problems and I feel I’m ready to move ahead of my starter kit. I’ve been comparing the Canon R10 and R50 as I’ve heard great things about their newer models. I’m not in a position to spend more than $1000-$1400 on camera+lenses, so the body+lens kits for these models on the website are within my budget. I’m curious though if it’s more in my interest to buy only the body and get an adapter for the lenses to still use the EOS ones I already have? Or should I fully commit with getting the lenses for the R model with the body. Additionally I haven’t decided between the R10 and R50, any opinions or pros and cons between them I should consider?

Camera Buying Advice Che fotocamera per principianti scegliere?

Post image

Printing/Publishing How can I publish shareable online photozines and photobooks?

Hey everyone...I'd like to turn my photos into shareable photozines and photobooks with custom layouts consisting of photos and text.

Are there any apps that do that? I've seen a canva app and some business-oriented ones that produce sales collateral but nothing that quite fits what I'd like. Browser-based ideally but phone is okay too. Thanks!

Gear/Accessories Any advice for switching lenses as quickly as possible in the field?

I just had my second body die on me and won't be able to replace it for some time. I'm a student photojournalist and am mainly worried about missing shots going from my 70-200/24-70.

I remember seeing some kind of accessory used by a wedding photog that let you switch very fast, some kind of belt? If anyone has advice or experience I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

wondering how you would suggest getting this ethereal effect on the lower 2/3rd of the image in camera and not in post? I’m guessing put something translucent between the subject and lens? But what? Anyone have any tips?

Camera Buying Advice What do you recommend?

I want to buy a camera to start learning filmmaking. I know there are lots of things to learn, and it’s not just about the camera. However, my sister is planning to buy one, and she’s giving me the opportunity to choose a camera that would also be suitable for me to learn with.

I’ve looked at so many options, but the one that consistently appears in camera tier lists is the Sony ZV-E10. However, I don’t know which version to choose or whether there are any better alternatives.

Could you recommend a camera that would suit my needs without costing too much? I don’t want to spend more than $700. I know that’s quite a lot of money for someone with no experience, but, as I mentioned, my sister needs a camera for work and has given me the chance to look into the options.

(1) Budget, country, and currency: 700 dollars or 12 thousand pesos. In Mexico

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs? I do not have equipment. It will be my first time.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot? Landscapes primarily.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both? both, but I´d rather videography

Technical Help/Camera Settings Shutter release button started to spin freely, is it normal?

Hi, so I have my Nikon Z50II for year and half and I just found out that my Shutter release button started to spin when even touching it lightly. I can still get a picture without any problems, but Im afraid that it will interfere with it someday when Im in the middle of some photography trip. Do you have experience with the same thing? The On/Off ring is holding still without any movement.'

Thank you all for your responses!

Technical Help/Camera Settings Is there a way to shoot in the dark?

I have Canon eos 600D, and im just a beginner, but i was asked to take pics at an event that is going to be mostly in the dark (like physically). I tried taking pics in the dark before, and its really hard to get the camera to focus on anything, really, so it just does not shoot. Is there a way to fix this problem? Like off the focusing thing or something:(
