This makes me feel better about getting flagged for my jeans zipper. Also something to look forward to the next time I travel - I now have 3 surgical screws in my leg, they'll definitely get buzzed.
So I actually have 6 screws and a titanium rod, but that never gets flagged (I am assuming because it’s not a true xray), but because the piercing is on the surface it’s different.
That said - I’ve had it for years and it is only this year that it has started getting flagged.
Yeah the piecing is also medical grade titanium, have even had an MRI with it in, but like I said only this year has it started getting flagged at the airport.
If I just walk through the metal detector it never sets it off.
Chances are you won't get flagged since the material isn't the kind the scanners are really looking for. I've had a rod the length of my calf and a screw in my hip for 22 years and I think I've gone through airport security 12 times. The only times I've had anything happen was the two times flying out of Cincinnati this year, both times I had to take off my shoes and go back through because it was picking up something at my ankle where the screws for the rod attachment are
I have an artificial hip. It does not register on US screening, but it did in Iceland. The screener there said larger body metal almost always does- hips, metal plates, but screws usually don't, and knees sometimes do and sometimes don't.
If it’s not indecent to ask…was that not extremely painful to get? Like isn’t the whole point of the clit to be almost entirely nerve endings?
Then once you have it…is it more pleasurable to be touched there? Is there a slight and constant pleasurable tingle? Or if you shift your hips just right it gives you a rush? Or does it just make simulation more intense? Or is it purely decoration?
It wasn’t that bad to get! The piecing is just through the hood, not the actual clit so really just going through a thin membrane. It was less painful and faster to heal than my helix (upper ear) piercing.
For me it definitely adds to the sensations. And also, though not as frequently when I first got it, it came sometimes self-stimulate if that makes sense?
Basically it sits so that the bottom ball of the piercing rests on top of the clit.
You’d be surprised, after the first couple days you get used to it and can ignore it especially with underwear and pants holding things close and preventing movement. But if you want you can basically get a hands free arrival with the right muscle movements/contractions.
I had to take my helix piercings out. As a dude in the trades they just never healed as they were constantly being jostled or snagged. Lasted about 6 months until I was like "you know what? Maybe the punk rock/goth aesthetic isn't the safest around a bunch of heat, motors, belts, fans, and electricity" and took out all of my piercings lol. This was a few years ago and now I look like a normal almost 40 year old dude and people who didn't know me prior are shocked when they see older pics of me.
There is only one APP certified piercer near me (I’m in a pretty rural area and they were about an hour away) so that is who I went to. But any certified piercer should be able to do it.
My upper helix took almost a year to heal but the second piercing on earlobes were the worst. If you don't mind me asking, how long does a clit piercing take to heal? Are you able to swap it for non-metallic ones in case of a MRI?
I'm very late to the thread so apologies if you have answered it already.
It took about 6 weeks to heal, it was very fast and easy to care for.
You can swap for a non-metallic one, but it is very hard to take out. Mine is med-grade titanium so the only time I had an MRI with it they just let me keep it in.
The few times I have changed it I have gone back to the piercer and had her do it.
The clitoral hood is closer to the foreskin on a penis, so while I'm sure it would be painful, it wouldn't be anywhere near as painful as a piercing through the clitoris.
Also excuse my limited knowledge but do people even get piercings though the clitoris? Doesn't it destory the nerve endings and the flicking the ol' bean just don't work as well?
I'm part of an extreme body mod group, I've heard of a couple of women who have pierced their clitoris and a few gentlemen who bisected their penis. So yeah people do it but they probably shouldn't.
I also have a VCH and love anonymously oversharing on the internet lmao
It has 100% improved sex for me. Because of the jewelry, when things are moving around while doing the deed, it just is able to stimulate parts of my clit that otherwise couldn’t be accessed. Even just the slight motion has improved every single sex position and I can now orgasm from any position when I previously wasn’t able to. A big part of this I’m sure is mental because I’m much more consciously thinking about how the area feels.
That being said, as with all functional piercings, your mileage may vary depending on your anatomy and the degree to which you get desensitized to things. I have both nipples pierced and one got a huge increase in sensation and the other…she’s just kind of there lol
EDIT: To answer your question about it being painful to get, yes it was. In the instant of the needle going through, it was for sure my most painful piercing (I have 20 for reference). However, there was no aching or tenderness that I had with every other piercing. I’d compare it to someone flicking your ear hard. Hurts in the moment, but doesn’t really leave any throbbing. If for some reason I had to, I’d much rather get my VCH redone than my tongue for comparison.
I got mine after I had been injured in an accident and off work for a few months. I really wanted to do something and so while I was stuck in bed I started researching different piercings and then found this one and decided to go for it!
It really depends on your anatomy. Not every clit is designed for every piercing. I am very much an innie, so my piercer didn’t think a horizontal one would sit well or be comfortable.
For the vertical you need enough space to support the piercing. Mine is pretty small, but I was just able to get the smallest size.
They will do a cue-tip test where they take the cotton off the top of the tip to make it less bulky, and will then insert it under the hood, and if you have at least enough space for the top of the cuetip then it should work.
I'm into a few body mods and I've been thinking a few piercings in the area to run lace through them for fun parties. Now you got me thinking about traveling with such piercings.
No the metal detectors never go off, it is medical grade titanium. I assume it sets off the body sensors because it sits on top of the skin as opposed to my leg rod and screws which do not get flagged in the scanner.
I’ve had it for years though and travel semi-frequently for work and only this year has it started being picked up by the scanners. Up until now it never flagged anything.
The nonconsensual black and white nudes generation machine probably got it's resolution increased or the algorithm that searches them for anomalies got updated.
It is already medical grade titanium, so it doesn’t set off the metal detectors. It does set off the full body scanners, but only as of this year. I’ve had the piercing for years and it had never been flagged before.
Changed our entire country. Conservatives who live on a diet of fear and outrage lost their fucking minds. The terrorists won more bigly than they ever could have hoped for that day.
It wasn't only conservatives. The invasion of Afghanistan, Patriot Act, and formation of the TSA had almost complete bipartisan support. The US wanted blood. It wasn't until the invasion of Iraq that people started going "hey, wait a minute".
Yes, but it was thoroughly established that the American people were lied to about WMD and the locations of radical groups. This is why the GOP were punished by losing in a landslide in the '06 midterms and partially why Obama was elected. Then of course the GOP gerrymandering the hell out of everything and here we are.
I mean, they are right though. The tragedy was international news and caused a huge ripple effect in both allied and non-allied air security, and the changes in the big countries spurred the smaller ones. Just because it was an American event doesn't mean it wasn't a world affecting tragedy. Security is not the same everywhere but it changed for a lot of countries after 9/11
9/11 was just the excuse, the Federalist Society has been planing that since the 1990s and had been waiting for an excuse. No matter what it was that happened they were trying for this.
I have several relatives who love security theatre, and you just illuminated why that is: they love being treated like cattle, because they think they're really good at being cattle.
Well that's the least of the dumb decisions some people make hahhahahha.
People steal, they smash each others property, they get into pointless fights, they treat their fellows like shit, they dont care for their children, they hate on people for superficial reasons, they empower the worst of us to govern the rest... people are pretty terrible and cant be trusted so they should be used to be treated as untrustworthy.
Same. Had to remove my coat and sneakers, and got patted even though I didn't get a single beep. Same thing in France. The only difference with US is that they don't go over your stuff like apes if they found something unidentified, other than that they are as annoying as TSA when it comes to personal searches.
Because there was an economic recession in 2000-2001 that a lot of people just forgot about because of the Great Recession that came later, and after 9/11 the US had the perfect excuse for a jobs program for people who were otherwise unemployable.
They couldn't justify adding even more to the already-bloated military budget (which is itself a huge jobs program in the US) so they used public anxiety over 9/11 (a terrorist attack that could have been stopped if the intelligence apparatus was working properly) and instead of instituting smaller reforms that would have solved the gaps in security they created the $100 billion+ money-suck that is TSA.
First flight I ever took the machine flagged something on me that caused me to be searched. I wasn't taken aside or anything, just patted down and groped in front of my friends and family. Straight up squeezed my balls. There was nothing, the scanner glitched or something.
Damn near wanted to just tell everyone to forget the trip and that I was going home.
The internal culture of DHS is bizarre. Surveillance state oriented with the customer service of riot police, empowered by laws made in the paranoia of the post 9/11 period, funded with far more money than they need for equipment, they use airport security as a power center.
Like, there is Israel's Ben Gurrion, "world's most secure airport", where you will be profiled, and have to pass behavioural interview, that may include telling everything about who you are, where you live and work, who are your friends, so on.
And there are other places like this.
From what I've seen, TSA is not, in any way, exceptional, except in making insecure lock standards.
Eh, the list of countries with TSA level of security theater is pretty darn short, so while it's not unique I think it's fair to call it pretty exceptional, especially with how wide spread it is. 🤷♂️
i flew into Okinawa with a riggers knife with a big spike on it in my carry-on bag, they took it out and asked me about it and i had to explain it was a midshipmen's knife for cutting and undoing ship's ropes. Thing looks pretty deadly but they didn't freak out and let me go on after some discussion.
Same thing with my friend before an int flight. She was the only cis woman in the group but had to have a pat down due to tampon. You’d think they would be smarter about identifying this stuff.
I wasn't offering a solution. I was asking what the point of a patdown would be to differentiate a tampon and contraband. No one said anything about pads
I didn’t say it would be. Me asking a hypothetical doesn’t mean I’m implying anything outside of the hypothetical. I’m purely playing at how to theoretically commit a crime the same way somebody who writes murder mysteries isn’t actually a murderer.
They'd have to be perfectly flat and pretty soft, and even then not that much of it. But sure that would work, end of the day no system is perfect.
It just seems like people want no hassle, perfect technology to identify all legal and illegal things, zero human interaction and touching, and also nothing invasive or time consuming. It's asking for the impossible.
That’s what needs to be improved. The equipment needs to be better for our privacy. Except nothing will be done for the benefit of the public. Thanks bureaucracy
How much cancer do you want? There's only so much energy you can shoot at a human before bad stuff starts happening. And on top of that, TSA isn't just looking for metal objects which happen to be the easiest to detect. The type of scanners currently in use are mmWave but the issue with them is that something simple like a sweaty shirt will produce an anomaly. Backscatter machines worked better but they do require exposing someone to a low dose of ionizing x-ray radiation. The TSA did roll these out in 2011 but people got upset because it was too good at seeing under clothing, you basically look bald and naked on the screen.
I mean that's easy to say but it's hard to do. You'd need to make an equipment that can tell if it's a tampon or some other thing, while also not being overly invasive or taking a long time per passenger, because either of those issues would make it a non-starter for majority of passengers and airports.
I got flagged while on my period and wearing a menstrual disc. The amount of joy I took in explaining to a grumpy, uncomfortable old man that it was a tiny silicone cup that collects blood inside my body while his much younger male coworker stood behind him covering his mouth and giggling had me in a great mood the whole rest of that trip.
Congrats Gerald now we are both gonna be uncomfortable. 🤷🏻♀️
I got felt up because of pasties. I don't wear a bra and my shirt was slightly see through, so I slapped on skin toned silicone pasties. As the TSA agent put the back of her hands against my breasts and asked questions, I informed her I had a piercing and was wearing pasties and she waved me through, chuckling.
It'd have been nice if they had asked before flagging me for a pat down instead of making me answer during, but the agent was at least gentle and professional.
I have travel pants. THey're the only pair of jeans I have that feel like sweats I don't mind flying in them. They have embroidery over the back pocket. Apparently it's a metallic thread used. After the 4th time going through the scanner I thought it was because I've gotten in trouble in the past or something.
I got frustrated and finally asked, and the guy said "you have half a roll of foil on your ass...sir"
I got pulled aside because a spot in my head was lighting up. They asked if I had a metal plate and I said no. But I did say I have epilepsy so maybe that’s what caused it to light up. And it did light up on the side of my brain where the seizures start.
I'd recently given birth and my pelvic floor was...not great the last time I flew somewhere. Sneezed in the TSA line and peed myself right before the xray thing. Got flagged and the agent said very loudly how she had to check a "sensitive area" if I wanted to go somewhere private. I was super embarrassed and just wanted to go as soon as possible so declined to go to a second location and just got felt up over my clothes right there. TSA got a hand covered in pee and let me go. I was mortified.
This happened to me last time i flew and i said i had a tampon in. the person said the machine isn't that invasive...which is interesting cause it didn't happen on the way out when i wasn't on it. to make it worse i was in a dress so they gloved up and put their hands up my dress....
I'm a trans guy and airport personnel tends to think I'm wearing a bomb vest (or whatever) and not a binder. Which is about equally as uncomfortable when they suddenly notice their error after 20 seconds of touching up my chest. I feel you. 🤣
Hey, me too! Only I get it because I’m a fairly tall, butch lesbian. So it either flags my chest (the titty fairy never visited some of us) or my groin (‘sir, where is your penis?’). So it’s groin karate chops for me every time!

I get buzzed every time i fly while im on my period... nothing like getting my pad felt up before a flight lol
