Discussion Submission Restrictions Removed

So when I took over this subreddit several years ago, it was basically a favor for someone who was deactivating their account and they were going to be making a new one to take it back over. Well, it's been... a long time and I don't think they are coming back. (Insert dad getting milk/cigs lame joke here...)

I'm not as active on reddit as I once was, so I didn't really dig into the issues revolving around why certain members couldn't post in the subreddit, but I think those issues have been resolved.

I didn't create this subreddit. I will still check in here and there, but it's mostly been an organic community untouched by myself. I'll continue to allow it to be organic. Vote the good stuff up. Vote the bad stuff down. Message me if there's an issue.

Any volunteers to moderate are welcome to message.

It's interesting and a bit daunting to try and discuss one of the highest rated games of all time almost 10 years after it's come out. To try and come up with anything original or additive to say, especially someone (unfortunately) not well versed in the franchise. So I'll start with a hot take, I think the weapon degradation is a positive here, the game is better for it than if it didn't have it, and it is totally in line with how the rest of the gameplay systems are designed. BOTW is so systems and physics driven and the way you have to play in response to weapon degradation further emphasizes those elements. I really think the flow of running up on a camp, using an ability, then firing a couple arrows, then going to melee, having your weapon brake and scrambling to pick up whatever weapon the enemy dropped works better than no weapon degradation. Than just having a few weapons that never brake, just locking into a couple favorites, and getting to where you never really need to alternate, never need to scrounge around, afraid to chuck a sword over a cliff at something cause you don't want to lose it. I understand people's frustration with the system but to me it makes so much sense here in my opinion.

To me not having it would feel too static for a game that in every other aspect feels sooo free flowing and organic, that's one of the things that struck me in my playthrough, just how organic and natural the world and moving thru it feels. You're constantly foraging, always utilizing the world, its terrain, its weather, and its elements to your advantage in combat, exploration, and puzzle solving. And somewhat unexpectedly for me, not really knowing what I would gravitate to here, but I think it's BOTW's Hyrule that's easily the best part of the game. I think this open world is an astonishing achievement of world design. In its scope and scale, in its atmosphere and ambience, in its verticality and sparsity, in how you traverse and utilize it, and how varied it is and just how it looks. I can't really emphasize enough how good this world design is, it's just a joy to explore, traverse, and even more shockingly for a 2017 Switch game, it is an absolute joy to look at. I'm shocked how good this game looks playing it for the first time in 2026. It's obviously not photo realistic or high fidelity by any means but man the ambience is soooo unbelievably good here. The sweeping vistas, the sunrises and sunsets of the day/night cycle, the atmosphere of the dynamic weather, the different biomes and regions and how the flow into and contrast one another it's just a flat out a fantastic looking game.

And it's that world design and atmosphere and ambience and soundtrack and verticality that makes exploration so good. And the thing in BOTW that enjoyed doing the most. It's one of the best at "oh I'll just go right over there, see what that is and then I'll stop playing" then finding yourself halfway across the map the other direction 2 hours later. Yeah, the combat is good, it's heavily carried on that physics system, the elements system, and all of the tools at your disposal but thru my full 90ish hours I enjoyed it the whole time, only skipping over enemies right at the end, finding new ways to use all the tools at your disposal I think keeps it fresh beyond what the bones of the combat might have done on their own. And the shrines, the puzzles they were also good. Obviously with there being so many not all are mind-blowing by any means but some were very good and again after basically 100 hours I never tired of finding and solving these shrines and I think that's really impressive for just how long you spend with those core objectives. Maybe it seems odd to relatively quickly brush over two of the largest mechanical elements of the game (combat and shrines) but I really think that's how good this open world is, just how good the world design is. And that's coming from someone whose Zelda experience is embarrassing minimal but whose open world experience is quite high. And for Nintendo to pivot to this trend that they really hadn't dabbled in to often to achieve something this impressive, is again astonishing in my opinion. And I was certainly excited to finally play BOTW but also in the back of my mind I was worried that the near decade of universal hype would set my expectations too high, and while it's not my #1 favorite game of all time I would certainly say it met and even exceeded all of the expectations I had for it. For the analyzing I could do of its systems or mechanics or themes (all of which are excellent in different ways) it simply just comes down to one thing - Breath of the Wild was a joy to play.

9/10

This Game made me sad is probably the best thing to say. It was also visually pleasing, the gameplay was fun and grounded and choose to tell a meaningful story that was also a bleak look into humanity's possible future.

Ambitious. No doubt about it. But at the same time, this solo project by a Czech developer is a total mess. I gave it a quick try whilemakinga videoaboutSilent Hill: Townfall, and what I saw… well, it didn’t convince me at all. AI voice acting, terrible optimization reminiscent of my 15-year-old attempts to play Arma on anything higher than low settings, user interfacein a mix of Czech and English, a commander redefining seats in trucks, and then… then the Germans arrived and, inevitably, the shooting began. So I set the game aside, and while I continued working on Silent Hill, the developer kept releasing patches furiously, almost every day. So I guess we’ll startagainfrom the beginning.

Discussion Dishonored ruined other games for me lol.

There 100's of game that are considered good.

One may have amazing gameplay. One may have amazing story, And one might make you deep questions.

But there are very few that can all of those and do them right.

Those are what I consider masterpiece.

Dishonored is that Masterpiece.
I can sit here and talk about all the other things that Dishonored does so well.....

but the part that ruined games for me was

The player freedom.

This game gives you ridiculous amounts of freedom

and variety in the consequences of your decisions.

HOW DID THEY DO IT? IT'S BLACK MAGIC.

Discussion Bo7. To Buy or not to buy…

I don’t have much time for games and haven’t really been able to get into anything lately.
I’m weighing the option of buying games pass ultimate to try out bo7 zombies.
Is it worth it? Or should I just buy the game?

Video Officially a Half-Life Game: Gunman Chronicles

Today's topic? The fact that technically, there's a third party licensed Half-Life game, and I love it.

Gunman Chronicles is a sleeper hit, a beautiful, terrible disaster, and something that I want to share with the world.

I couldn't compile my thoughts into a brief review, so today's rant is an educational one.

Discussion New reviewer here ,any advice??

Hi im a pretty new reviewer , im pretty young ig but im in love with retro games so I always play them and well reviews are like my therapy since i literally have no friends lol, so I try to post on yt some reviews, I dont really care much about views since its for fun ,

I have played a lot of good games but i LOVE talking about the laughably bad games a lot

But I still have one review up which is kinda mid and like 3 whole drafts of actual good ones and im soo bad at motivating myself to finish the script since they're soo long ..currently I have in the works a review on mission impossible operation surma lmao ,and my first rev that was like 30 mins has 30 pages of script and this one has 30 but im just at the half of the story segment.. I love telling the story in detail cause this is what usually makes the games funny to talk about and I think that review is actually good but it might be too long, is it normal for most the video to be the story segment ???

And also how do yall focus on only 1 game , i already have drafts to mib alien crisis(worst game ive ever played , I tried to also record a whole lets play /game video which is okay but it takes long to edit ofc not surprize there) which it think im going to make first since the game wasnt that long tbh, the m:i ps2 game, and also the wii hawx 2 game which is sitting there to rot for soo long even tho thats the first u finished out of them all, im thinking of also doing ac0 belkan war to have at least something pozitive,

Im asking a bit for advice on the length of stuff if its normal or not, I like my style, because its genuienly how id talk to a friend if I had one and I love making them joke filled thats why I choose worser ones, I just love putting all the personality I have in them :>

Discussion Game reviewers: How are games assigned to you?

Hey everyone!

I wanted to ask a question to those who write game reviews for any outlet (no need to name names).

I've been curious about how game reviews work for a while now, and a question came to mind: When you're given a game to review, is it usually based on your personal preferences and interests, or are games just randomly assigned to you?

If there's anything else you can share about the process without getting yourself into trouble, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot!

Article [Game Review] Thank You Bus Driver - Double Fine’s New Bus Driving Simulator

Post image

Thank You Bus Driver took me a little bit to get the hang of, but once I got going, I actually had quite a bit of fun. While part of me wishes there were different maps, I’m also kind of glad I didn’t have to memorize more locations. There’s not a whole lot to the game, but with it only being about 3 hours long, I think it’s a good bite sized game to run through.
