Grand Theft Auto 6 Launch Trailer
https://youtu.be/rz1B4B2yBZY?si=-hpYapXW49i0roAV3.1k
u/VexelPrimeOG 2d ago edited 2d ago
Man, regardless of how you feel about this game, November 19 is gonna be a crazy day for this industry.
I look back at the last two launches Rockstar had when they released a game and it's baffling to think both were the first and second largest entertainment product launches of all time.
991
u/BigMikeArnhem 2d ago
And gaming is a lot bigger than it was 13 years ago with V and even 8 years ago with RDR2. This game will have an impact no other game will come close to.
451
u/VexelPrimeOG 2d ago
Yeah, GTA V apparently made 1 billion dollars in three days when it released if I recall.
Now imagine how much this game makes in just ONE day.
216
u/Certain-Quarter-3280 2d ago
And GTA V’s launch price was $60. GTA VI with the $80 price tag will easily break GTA V’s record of 1 billion revenue in the first 3 days.

Most people buy Ultimate 100$ edition. You will see if you check PS store for a lot of regions.

u/ficklefools 2d ago
Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s already making close to $500,000,000 through preorders alone
→ More replies (1)57
u/TonyRomoDid911 2d ago
completely anecdotal, but i NEVER preorder games (like actually dont think i ever have) and splurged for the $100 version with this one
→ More replies (10)35
u/ficklefools 2d ago
Exactly the same here. I think generally pre-ordering is pretty pointless to actively bad, but I’ve booked off the 19th and 20th from work, so I want to be able to play at 00:01 on the 19th (or at least start the 90GB day one patch)
→ More replies (1)16
u/wesleyrbk 2d ago
People hate on the no disk (and rightfully so), but the benefit of a digital only game is that it is always has the latest updates. So no day 1 patches I reckon.

u/dbcanuck 2d ago
Slight correction, gaming is NOT bigger than 13 years ago, and its actually shrunk since 2019/20.
PC gaming has grown, modestly, at the expense mainly of consoles.
MOBILE gaming has grown dramatically though, which inflates gamer population numbers as reported. I think they're distinct audiences, and particularly Asia/East Asia. Sadly mobile is much more profitable and continues to draw more and more capital.
That said this will still be a huge release. Probably the biggest ever.
→ More replies (4)28
u/theegreggg 2d ago
I remember reading an article a year ago that said the launch of this game will probably have an observable impact on the global economy considering how many people will call off of work, miss school, and stay home to play the game rather than go out and pump money back into the economy
→ More replies (1)53
u/Itchybawlz23-2 2d ago
Imagine if call of duty was like this. Instead of releasing a game every year, just release major DLCs and actually they their time building a new game and not recycling assets for a new title
57
u/Knodsil 2d ago
That would be less profitable.

I stood in line at Game Stop for the midnight release of GTA V. I didn't know it at the time, but that was the last midnight release I would do. It's sad to think about how everything you do, even things you commonly do, are always potentially the last time you will ever do them...

That was cool but I think I prefer adult version when I now have an 85in 4k TV with super comfortable lounge chairs and I can play as long as I want.
22
u/eurtoast 2d ago
Peak for me was the college version of adulthood. I arranged my schedule to be classes from 10am-4pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Work on Sundays, Tuesday nights, Thursday nights, and Friday mornings. Mondays and Wednesdays were study days, Fridays and Saturdays were do whatever days - mainly spent playing games or hanging out with my gf (now wife). 15 years later and I have an infant son (first child) so GTA VI won't see my screen for a few years at this rate.

u/FizzyLightEx 2d ago
Idk why people want to do back to childhood where they had limited freedom. Sure you have responsibilities but I wouldn't trade them for less freedom
152
u/98sandheartbreak 2d ago
Because it’s about not having to worry about life and working for things. As an adult I can buy myself things young me would’ve died for but that high is short lived. Being limited is what makes you appreciate things a whole lot more
I remember at 14 my dad took me and my friend out to eat, got me GT5, Battle Field 4, and a headset. I was over the mood for years to come with just those three things.
Now I get more excited when the number in my savings go up, and I get anxious when I spend even 3% of it on non necessities.

interesting that they seem like they're going for a very cinematic story, or at least it's being portrayed as the main story will be more serious at least seeming more like GTA 4 in tone than 5
going to probably be a flood of info going by past launches
probably a gameplay deep dive and video coming out within the next couple weeks

V was just a cartoon at times. IV's story was one of the most complex and profound ever told in gaming at the time of release; I miss that

V did give us many memes at least, like Lamar roasting Franklin and “this is 7 dollars!”

u/Gguga12 2d ago
one of the most complex and profound stories
Literally just Niko working for bad people and killing people while bitching about killing people
It had its good like Niko finding the guy thet sold his squad out but most of it was Niko being a doormat for everyone and doing evil shit while "trying" to not do evil shit, hell if you pick the deal end then the game is even more dumb
30
u/mitchhamilton 2d ago edited 2d ago
this is why 4 has amazing writing, because you look at it only surface level when its more nuanced. in the end, niko could only do one thing, be a violent, horrible man, because that is all that he has ever known, even though he wants for something more.
"aren't you worried for your soul?"
"after you walk into a village and you see 50 children, all sitting neatly against the church wall, each with their throats cut and their hands chopped off, you realize the creature that could do this doesnt have a soul."

Allegedly Q1, but until Rockstar says something it's all speculative. They're probably hoping for as much double dipping as possible so I doubt we'll hear anything until next year just so they can maximize that, also to avoid the unnecessary grief they'd get if delays are necessary.
