For the Moderator : That’s absolutely not a way to trying dating please don’t remove like last time

Off-Topic Anyone remember the OLD Dragon’s Inn Chicken Soo Gai gravy in Windsor? (Pre-COVID)

This might be a long shot, but does anyone remember the original Chicken Soo Gai gravy from Dragon’s Inn in Windsor, back in the early 2000s up until around COVID?
I’m trying to recreate that exact gravy recipe. It was a deep golden-yellow colour, extremely thick, and when you put the leftovers in the fridge, it would almost turn into a gelatin-like consistency.
I’m pretty sure they’ve changed the gravy since then, and it just isn’t the same as I remember.
Does anyone have old pictures of it, remember what it tasted like, or know someone who used to work in the kitchen at Dragon’s Inn?
I’d love to find the original recipe, or at least figure out what ingredients they used.
Hopefully someone remembers what I’m talking about!

Ask Windsor Small business owners in Windsor what part of running a business here is way more difficult or time-consuming than it should be?

• Upvotes

Curious to hear from people who actually run local businesses.

What are some of the day-to-day things that take up an unreasonable amount of your time or are still surprisingly manual?

Could be dealing with inventory, suppliers, scheduling, paperwork, customers, local regulations, POS systems, staffing, keeping information updated, or something completely specific to your industry.

I’m especially curious about the problems that people outside your industry probably wouldn’t even realize exist.

What’s the one process you regularly deal with where you think, “There seriously has to be a better way to do this”?

Ask Windsor Best Italian spots in town?

From Detroit and it’s my birthday, Italian food is my fave so I go over to Windsor every other year or so to try a new spot. Last year I went to Vittorio’s. It was solid, nothing crazy. Usually go to Spago’s, but kinda wanna try a new place. Carbonara is my fave dish and I love calamari and Arancini as well. I’d like a place that gives decent portion sizes/good taste balance. I know I saw a post saying Cucina 360 is the most authentic, but they look kinda upscale/small portion sizes sort of thing so I’m unsure.

Edit: Y’all have too many good eats God I love this country and Ontario.

2nd edit: sadly my sister had to have an emergency surgery today so I didn’t get over to Windsor until late and had to settle for the newly renovated spago’s .. I’ll come back next week for Piccolos and Cucina 360 but feel free to keep commenting places, I’ll try them all every pay day

Ask Windsor Contractor/Handy Man Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a reliable contrator to come wrap up a basement reno? Work has been started (framing, preparing for flooring) but our current handyman cannot finish the work due to injury. The remaining work is drywall/mudding/3 new doors/painting & finishing work. Most of the materials have already been bought (drywall, flooring, 3 prehung doors). Work is time sensitive as the renos are to make room for a newborn coming in December. Any recommendations on someone reliable (and not too expensive) to be able to complete the work in the next few weeks would be appreciated.

Events ANNOUNCEMENT: Please join us Saturday, October 17th from 4:30pm to 6pm for a Virtual Town Hall / AMA with Ward 4 Candidate, Mike Burton!

Let’s Chat, Windsor! We are excited to announce the guest for our thirteenth AMA this election season; please join us in welcoming Mike Burton, Ward 4 Candidate! He will be live with us this Saturday from 4:30pm-6pm to answer all of your pressing questions!

Mike Burton has been a resident of Ward 4 for near all his life, having been born and raised in the community, eventually marrying, purchasing a house and raising a family all within the boundaries of the ward. This family focused mindset, paired with his experience as a volunteer and board member at the Consumer/Survivors Employment Association of Essex County, have molded Mike’s views and values for Ward 4 and the communities around him. His campaign platform mirrors this focus on building and supporting a healthy and tight-knit community, with three pillars further fleshing out this platform: Issues and Positions (Every Resident Deserves to Feel Safe- Day and Night), Quality of Life (Ward 4 Should be a Place Where People Can Afford to Stay), and Local Economy (Strong Small Businesses Mean a Strong Ward 4). He says that the state of small business supports in the city is a core reason that he decided to throw his hat into the ring for Ward 4, stating “Small businesses are struggling. The city has patio fees and business license fees that slow progress and growth for this key sector. They have raised parking rates in Windsor which are now a deterrent to travelling downtown. I want to work with Council Member to reduce fees and attend the Council table where those decisions get made.” Mike believes that government works best when it listens first, and this is why he is vying for a seat around the table; to offer a listening ear to the residents of Ward 4!

In the interest of developing and nurturing meaningful conversation between the public and those that look to represent us, we are happy to announce that Mike would like to hear from you! Please note that all are welcome to engage in this event! Whether you’re a political pundit or just an invested observer, all questions are happily welcomed!
We strive to build a community where fellow residents can share in active discussion about what excites and concerns, or intrigues!

We don’t want anyone to feel left behind! If you are unable to make the AMA during the advertised run-time, please feel free to add your comments and questions to this thread; we will make sure that they are included in the rotation of questions for Mike.

Ask Windsor Where’s a good place to get my oil changed for a budget friendly price?

Ok so I’m looking to get a full synthetic oil change and the dealership is pretty pricey so I’d like to look elsewhere. I have a 2015 Cadillac ATS and right now I’m in a situation where I’m tight on money.

I quit my job and I’m on EI so I’m receiving like $1200 bi weekly but with rent ($1650) and all my bills I’m basically drawing even at best each month or going a bit negative. Went to the mechanic recently and paid about $4200 but unfortunately still got to get my brakes done, oil changed, brake fluid flush and they called me while working on my car saying that they didn’t include: Front Lower Forward Control Arms with Wheel Alignment.

I’m going to buy the brake pads and rotors online somewhere, used to go to Rock Auto but they’re American and I don’t know with all the tariff bs if it’s still the go to for best value for parts. But I’m going to get a family friend to do my brakes.

I know I might save like $20-30 potentially but every $ matters right now because I knew my brakes needed to be done so I was expecting atleast $1500 ish quote but my radiator needing replacement and lower ball joint control arms were unexpected for sure. Although I can’t complain because I’ve never had many issues with my car and brakes are just typical routine maintenance and replacement over time.

If you have a place to recommend, I’d really appreciate it.

They’re quoting me $1370 for the: Front Lower Forward Control Arms with Wheel Alignment. They called me while working on my car and were like oh if you add it to the repairs today, we can save you $___. I get it that it would save me some $ labor wise while they’re already working on it, but after being prepared to pay $4200, a $1000 add on was not in my budget in the slightest lol. I told them I needed to break up the repairs because of my situation. Not sure if that’s a good price or not, but possibly if you know a place or how to get a better deal for it, that would be much appreciated too.

West windsor near Gordie Howe.... Second I've killed in 24 hours.

For those unaware, this is a Lanternfly. Highly invasive and recently sighted here in Windsor. Kill on sight.
