Hey!
Blender Foundation just launched its annual survey to better understand the user community and determine the future direction of the Blender project.
It's anonymous and quick, only takes 5 minutes to complete.
https://www.blender.org/survey
Thanks in advance for participating! Your input will help shape the future of Blender ๐งก

My family was at the lake so I got a bunch of photoscans of the shore and they've been so incredibly fun to play with. The first image is a quick render I did to showcase them! I went a little crazy on the details (wetness, trees, compositing) but it turned out quite nicely. Questions and feedback are welcome as always!

Ironically, evaluating smooth blends between meshes has been a headache for as long as I can remember. Historically I've been stuck with three poor options:
As part of a course project, I'm developing a PDE-based tool to make this easier. This operates on existing vertex coordinates, rather than creating new ones, and so it keeps meshes watertight. I plan on releasing an add-on, but wanted to share this in-progress demo. For those interested, here's a sketch of how it works:
Happy to discuss more if people have questions! Let me know what features would be useful - I think preserving texture UVs for instance would be handy and not too-difficult. I also plan to incorporate a 'profile' option that allows control over the shape of the blended region.

When I was tasked with creating a trailer for my university's Formula SAE team (Melbourne University Racing), I was really inspired by Ash Thorp, Colorsponge and William Landgren, so I set out to do something similar.
A FSAE team is comprised of students who design, build and race a formula style racecar, competing against other universities every year.
I've been experimenting with my post workflow a lot, especially within DR and Fusion and I think this helped me finalise it.

My new rigging tutorial is out!
Watch it here:
https://youtu.be/EFH4wZeXu3w
In that video I will show you how to rig a whole Scissor Lift with just one controller.
Iโll walk you through my process of setting up the bone chain, using some constraints to automate the movement, and also showing the ups and downs (hehe) of some alternative ideas.
I hope you like it ๐โ๏ธ

I found these pictures on HiROKI ITOKAZU's page on weebly. I'd love to know how to make realistic hair like this. Does anyone know? You don't have to explain everything, just tell me what to look up, I'll figure it out. I'm pretty new to 3D

if it was just that they were made with ai, fine. But they take credit for the animation saying its their blender skills and hard work and saying its not even AI. And all their fans believe them. Mods if this is the wrong place to post you can remove it I just wanted to say this somewhere, my bad.

I know most posts like that are just click baits and this may sound obvious to some but no one in the industry cares if it's your first blender project or first render or whatever.
In most cases it's actually the other way around, experience with a software and in the field is much more important than being fast learners.
The most important aspect of being a 3d artist is being able to deliver good quality assets in the required amount of time while being able to work with other people.
It doesn't matter if you are 15, 40 or 80, in most cases having less years of experience it's just going to penalize you.
So focus on your skills and become a better artist, do not compare yourself to click baits that are only impressive for 2 minutes on social media.
Edit: I thought it was clear I was talking about those "first time using blender" with insanely good artworks, apparently it wasn't, I've nothing against beginners sharing their first work

After an entire weekend of running 19 autonomous Claude agents and burning an irresponsible amount of tokens, we're proud to announce BlenderCraft.
A 100% free, open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Blender.
We achieved something incredible:
โ
100% feature parity with Blender
โ
Modeling, sculpting, animation, Geometry Nodes
โ
Cycles and Eevee rendering
โ
Native .blend file support
โ
Windows, macOS, and Linux
โ
No subscriptions. No paywalls. Free forever.
We even managed to reproduce the original source code almost line by line.
Our biggest breakthrough came when we discovered a mysterious public repository containing the entire source code:
https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender
Apparently, it's been there since October 13, 2002.
So yeah, we didn't actually build anything.
Turns out the Blender community solved the whole "free and open-source creative software" problem 24 years before AI made it trendy.
Jokes aside, massive respect to Ton Roosendaal, the Blender Foundation, and the thousands of developers and contributors who made Blender what it is today.
While everyone's celebrating AI for making software free and open source, these legends have been doing it for decades.
Software is over. Blender was just early. ๐งก

So, I'm not new to making characters but I was always bothered by buttons and buckles or basically any solid object like a knife or walkie talkie stretching or deforming when the character starts moving. I also don't have much experience with rigging and skinning.
This was my solution! What do you think?
should i just leave them? since they are barely visible?
By the way this is a game asset, so I think extra bones are overkill.
