Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

— The Mod Team (Now a division of Consumer Reports, a clipboard, and pure chaos)

What to Buy? I want what Sears sold 30 years ago

Forgive me if this has been previously addressed! We are renovating a house and I want what I surprised my parents with 30 years ago. It was on sale for 900 bucks at the Sears at the local mall (sweet memories!) It was wide and electric and had two ovens next to each other. One was regular size and the other was more narrow (could easily fit a 9x13 pan) but it was a full fledged oven, not a warming oven. The top had four burners with a permanent griddle in the middle. The griddle had to be 12 inches wide and stretched all the way back to the controls. Where can I find something like this now? Thank you!!!

Our Frigidaire quit and walked out last night!

Looking for recommendations for a replacement. If you have loved your free standing range (between $600-$1300) and want to shout it to the Reddit verse, I welcome your insight! If you hated something that was well rated, feel free to add that too!

This is a real picture btw! 😂

Machine Stacking Help

I just bought my first house and had to get stacked washer dryers. I ordered GE washer dryers from an open box store and the delivery guys hooked them up but didn’t install the stacking kit so the machines are literally sitting on top of each other. I called the store and they said they don’t do that part.

The biggest issue is the machines just barely fit in the laundry space so they have to be completely unhooked and pulled out of the closet to install the stacking kit and then put back and I’m a single girl in my 20s. I literally have no idea what to do next pls help!!

One winter with a mini split changed how I think about heating

I've always been the person who turns the heat down before leaving the house. Nobody's home, so why keep it warm? We have a costway mini split in the living room, and that worked fine for most of the winter. I'd turn it back up when I got home, make dinner, and the room would usually feel comfortable by the time I sat down. Then we had a really cold week, and that routine stopped working so well.

I'd get home around 6, turn the heat up, and still be sitting on the couch in a hoodie an hour later. The room eventually warmed up, but I was spending most of my evening waiting for it. After a few days I tried leaving the temperature a little higher while we were out. I also started using the timer on days when I knew we'd be home early. It was a small change, but coming home to a room that was already comfortable felt a lot better than I'd expected.

I'm still not sure what the difference in electricity costs is. That's something I want to pay more attention to next winter.I still turn the heat down when we're going to be out for a while, just not as much as I used to. Getting home at 6 and being able to sit down without waiting for the room to warm up has been pretty nice.

Troubleshooting Hood vent. Is this working or not?

• Upvotes

Redid kitchen.

Kitchen contractor turned out to be scum.

Now I don’t know if this is working or not…? Doesn’t seem to be sucking at all on the outside, but if I open it up, might be sucking air in on the inside…. But not sure?

Can an expert please please chime in ?

Kitchen package recommendations

• Upvotes

Hi, I’ll be renovating our kitchen in about a month or so. We’re looking at all new appliances, 36” counter depth fridge (with internal ice), 30” induction range, over the range microwave and a dishwasher. We’re looking roughly in the 5-6k range which I think puts us within the GE/GE profile, Frigidaire gallery/Professional price range. We like the industrial touches of the Frigidaire professional line, we also would like the pizza oven feature of some Frigidaire ranges. I do value matching the appliance brands, but it’s not a deal breaker to mix and match. Our current range and fridge are 25 years old and we have a Frigidaire gallery dishwasher that we are generally very happy with.

Any suggestions/tips or things to stay away from? Ps- I will use the search feature as well, but figured it doesn’t hurt to ask some personalized questions too.

Purchased a F&P front loader WH1060P5 but it doesn’t seem to have a hot wash setting (+60C) other than the sanitise setting (90C).

Anyone have any trouble shooting for this? Struggling to clean kids clothes or properly wash cloth nappies

Bosch 800 Series SHV78CM3N: EasyGlide third-rack rails very loose, drawer wedges and jams (brand new)

• Upvotes

Just had a Bosch 800 Series SHV78CM3N installed (Canada, delivered Oct 14, installed Oct 17). It has never been run. The top cutlery drawer is a problem right out of the box.

  • The rails and wheels have a lot of play. If you push on just one corner of the drawer, it tilts and wedges instead of gliding in.
  • It jams repeatedly when loading it.
  • Everything looks properly installed and the wheels are seated on the tracks.

For comparison, we had a lower-end Bosch SilencePlus 44 dBA in our last house for 5 years. It cost about half as much, and the third rack never had this problem. We bought the 800 Series expecting better, and the retailer’s page advertises “EasyGlide rack system, engineered rails on all three racks provide a smooth, quiet glide.”

Questions:

  1. Has anyone seen this on the SHV78CM3N or other 800 Series units?
  2. Did Bosch change the rail or wheel design recently? It looks like the wheels are too narrow for the groove, or the rails are too wide.
  3. Is there a fix, such as a part or an adjustment, or is this a known defect?

Troubleshooting Bespoke Washer Dryer Combo Water Usage

We have had this washer dryer combo (vented) for about 2 months now. It displays water usage at the end of the wash cycle. We are doing medium-size loads and some smaller loads with no extra spin/rinse cycle and getting 20 -26 gallons of water usage. Sometimes the small load uses more water than the medium load. What is others user experience.

What to Buy? Washer dryer set

Currently have an LG stacked set that came with the house five years ago that the control panel on the washer periodically fails and need to unplug it to reset. Each time thinking it’s finally kicked the bucket.

Luckily we got it working again but I’m tired of it.

We have a king sized bed so something large enough to cover the comforters would be best.

I don’t want to have the machines connected to an app or internet, just want to clean my clothes and have sanitize cycles for when my kids inevitably bring home stomach bugs.
No brand preference, not against single washer dryer combo either if they actually do the job well.
Anticipating a budget of $2k USD

New dryer

Just had a new Maytag dryer delivered and installed and I noticed this fabric type ring lining the back with orange/red thread. Should that be there or is something that should have been removed on install? It's hard to get a grip on it and try to pull it out but I don't want to pull too hard and mess it up if it should be there.

Samstung :( Samsung Refrigerator Cleaning

I own a Samsung refrigerator, maybe two years old (make and model set forth in the pictures). Issue is I’m trying trying to clean the bottom shelf above the drawers. and cannot disengage the bottom glass shelf from the water filter assembly below. Videos\manual show two plastic tabs below the glass, which you push in to disengage the section. I have tried everything short of breaking it with a hammer, and tabs do not budge. Any ideas?

Troubleshooting I messed up my Bush washeing machine

I popped my bedding in my front loader (appliance WMNSN841W) yesterday with 1/3 cup of Tyler glamorous wash and a little bit of seventh generation free and clear - big mistake, I know that now.

The bedding came out with sticky small black balls all over - I thought it was scrud. So tried to look up the solution on Google and ended up chucking a cup of arm & hammer super washing soda in a 90c empty cycle.

Problem solved right? Wrong! So wrong! The drum now has a gray looking film all over it - almost looks like someone has left gray/ashy scratches all over. Tried wiping it off with a wet towel. Ran another 90c cycle with nothing in it. Ran a third 90c cycle with a tablet from the second pic. Nothing's worked.

Is there anything else I can do? I've got citric acid and some vinegar, but I'm hesitating as I don't want to make the issue worse. And I'm too broke to buy a new washing machine now. Based in the UK, so top loaders aren't really popular options here. Please help.

Troubleshooting Gas dryer fire hazard?

I was dumb and tried to clean the discoloration on the back of my dryer grille with some paper towels. I scrubbed too hard and the paper towels deteriorated and I noticed some pieces of them "behind" the grille. I tried to vacuum them out, but not sure I got it all. This is a newer gas Samsung stackable dryer. I have no idea where this grille goes, etc. and am concerned that this errant paper towel shards and lint may be a fire hazard. I rent and don't want to bother my landlord and make them. think I am an idiot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Installing new over the range microwave into prebuilt space

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any help! So my old microwave has dimensions, in inches, of 29.875 W x 15.75 H x 16.40625 D inches and fits snugly in the current space (see picture here: https://imgur.com/a/92joBku). The microwave i am considering buying is GE JVM3160RFSS which has dimensions of 29.875 W x 16.125 H x 15.5625 D. Will there be any problem installing the new microwave in the space? This is my first time doing this so am looking for confirmation before purchasing. Thanks for any help!
