Don't know what to do

My job is literally destroying my mental health. It has reached the point where I experience horrific breakdowns and have to take time off. Luckily for me I am not the only one who has fallen sick but it isnt something I can do long term anymore.

We work alternative shift patterns and have very rigid breaks to the point they would make use work back the time we would use the toilet. I had a bit of a fall out with my team leader so was stripped off all admin duties and forced strictly to take calls. After speaking to OH I was referred to a psychriatrist and diagnosed with PTSD who provided adjusments but they refuse to make them long term since we are so short on staff. People keep backstabbing each other and I dont feel I can progress at all in anyway, cause I am unable to make any routine. I apply for other jobs but always end up so burnt out by the end of the day. My relationships dont tend to last cause of the impact it has on me. I am tempted to just quit at this stage, but I am paranoid over money and dont know when Ill find new employment. I also have 0 family here and am pretty much on my own.

I don't like to get up every day and go to work.

I am doing this 'work' thing for last twelve years.

I have to do it for another fifteen years.

I dread every morning.

I dread the day after holiday when I have to go to work.

So today I was introduced to my coworkers’ lovely views on women…

I (30f) am a trans woman, been on hrt for more than three and a half years, I don’t pass and I’m fully out at work.
Three weeks ago I started my first stable-looking job as a mechanic working on garbage trucks, I’m in a team with two other mechanics, both in their 60s.

I walk in on these two talking about former coworker (a female driver), they were making fun her she because she stormed into dispatch’s office once in tears over something a colleague said to her.
They then proceed to make fun an involuntary spasm of the stomach/esophagus she apparently had? And propose that that’s probably the reason her husband left her.

The convo then shifts to another former driver who’s a trans man and they both agree that, no matter what he does to his body he’ll always be a woman in their eyes (they also repeatedly misgender him, of cource).

One of them then turns me and says “that’s the same for you btw, you’ll always be like 90% male to me”.

Before anyone starts. I’m not taking this to my boss or hr. It took me 4 months of ZERO income to find this job and have ZERO experience so no one else will hire me. I can’t risk rocking the boat and losing this job.

TLDR: I work with misogynist, transphobic human shitstains.

I’m going to text a friend tomorrow and vent to him about it. I’m then going to spend a very long two years gaining money and experience at this place and then get the fuck out of there.

Retail hell

I started working at Bealls 4 weeks ago to make extra money for a puppy, alongside my 2 days a week at a preschool. The plan was to work 3–4 days a week, every other weekend, and never on preschool days. Unfortunately, none of that has happened. I’ve worked every weekend, constantly get closing shifts despite being available all day, and have even been scheduled to work both jobs in one day.

I’ve realized retail just isn’t for me. I’m exhausted, dread going to work, and feel like I never get to enjoy my days because I work every day and dread the shift. For $10 an hour and $120 paychecks, it honestly isn’t worth the stress.

My question is, how should I go about quitting? Do I give my boss a formal resignation letter and work my two weeks, even though I’ve only been there 4 weeks? I’m worried it’ll be uncomfortable knowing they’ve invested so much time in training me. Or do I just text her and explain that I’m leaving? I don’t want to burn bridges, but I also don’t want to spend another two weeks miserable.
Should I be honest and say the job isn’t for me, or explain that my preschool has offered me more hours? I do substitute there, and it pays better and is something I actually enjoy. I gave retail a chance, but it just isn’t for me. What would you do?

I hated this job.

I can’t work in foster care I was used to housing and I tried it but it seemed like a learnings curve to big for me with nobody there to train me for several months and having to learn as I go. Which is fine but when you don’t give me access to wya system you use and keep putting me in spots that make my job harder with no real direction it doesn’t help .

It fucking sucks

Then you remove me from that position after being burned out from the first one and put me in charge of mentoring . With the expectation being for me to be good at it when u barely knew about it.

I was set up for failure and the reality is that I was fucked from the jump. I just stopped caring eventually

First job experience. Does it ever get better?

• Upvotes

So I’m 24, and got my first job at a remote IT company around 8 months ago. It’s a startup, so I’m usually all-over-the-place, handling social media, outreach, website design, etc…

For the past 3 months, I’ve been unbelievably drained. Not a “I hate work, but I need it to survive” drained, but a “I’m about to send in my notice with no plan for the future.” Type of drained. I’m at my wits end. My only motivating factors that keeps me going forward is getting the salary, and having to deal with the living situation if I leave, but for the past month, even those variables aren’t enough to keep me going. I hate the people, I hate the expectations that are set on me, I hate the daily meetings that take up 2 hours of my day, every work day.

But what I hate most at the moment is AI. My company uses AI for everything. Outreach? AI. Coding? AI. Social media? AI. There’s not an inkling of creativity or self-expression at my job. It’s all reliant on sending 6 prompts to models, and managing them. I hate what the software industry has shaped into.

I’m thinking of pulling the plug when it comes to this job, and software development in general. The job market is in a horrible place right now, but I have 3 months of savings that I can tap into to find a new job. However, every guiding figure in my life has said the same thing, that “Work’s the same everywhere, just deal with it.” So I’m at a complete loss as to what to do.

I’ve tried applying to different jobs, even different sectors, but I’m so drained from work that I just don’t have the energy to keep applying after a workday, and the last thing I want to do is cut into the little amount of free time I have left.

Please let me know if it gets less miserable, or what I can do to get through this period of life.

A customer went off on me

• Upvotes

This customer went off on me for counting her clothes. My job as a fitting room associate is to count all items when the customers come in and come out. This lady was trying on three sets of bras and I had to count them. So I counted them and when I did, she went into one of the stalls cussing at me and saying “F U B”. She was so rude. I wanted to cuss her out back, but I couldn’t. I wanted to fight her so bad and win, but I didn’t. So yeah.

Should I quit my job now?

I (F) had been working as a cashier at a small food court in Chennai. This food court has great customer retention but the sales has been pretty decent. I'd been working here for 9 months. My working hours are from 11 am to 11 pm, Monday to Saturday (I give my 11 hours daily excluding my lunch break.) My monthly salary is ₹14000.

My salary had never been credited on time except once. 5th day of the month is our salary day. The cooks get paid, like 3-5 days late and I get paid 8-14 days after the salary day. (They send money to their families so it's kinda understandable) Its 17th of October and I haven't received my pay yet.

Also, I hate this job because I never felt respected here. I'm naturally a shy person but whenever I put a small effort to make myself visible to customers, the cooks overshadow me. While paying, the customer looks at the cook, not me. I'm invisible. I just gave up trying. I simply sit near the cash register, do my thing and leave. I'm not here to impress anyone. Now, I even look for excuses to take leaves. Now I'm given warning not to take too many days off.

I really want to quit this job. But I don't have skills now. I have 4 months of salary saved in my account. I'd been applying for part-time receptionist jobs so I can develop skills while working but I got no reply.

Now my question is... Is it a wise decision to quit now? Is getting paid late every month normal in a growing restaurant business? Or is this a subtle sign that the business is struggling with cash flow or going to fail?

Work has finally broke me

Just a quick rant before I go to work. Sorry

A relief was hired to help me- take some of the work off my back. But they refuse to step up. And I’m stuck with the same work while looking like an a$$ while trying to either get them to do work or giving them a second task. I’m done trying, done being told I’m being rude for acting like that (when I’m like please do this I want to not do it today!!)

this relief can do whatever they want I’ll do my job I won’t ask for help and they can sit and the corner and do nothing. Or they can find random small things to keep busy, I just don’t care anymore.

I’m just going to keep my eyes down, do my job and go home. I don’t care anymore. Work has finally broke me totally. I’m done looking like a jerk because I want equal tasks for the two of us instead of me doing it all. I get it. I’m not supposed to have an equal job. God please let me leave this place.

Burn out or short term disability?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Posting for an older colleague who doesn’t use Reddit.

“New job. 5 months in as a commercial account manager. Been working in sales for over a decade. Never felt this way ever.

Job is asking way too much. Never have I felt this burnt out. I’m thinking of going on short term disability which covers up to 20 weeks and 60% of my pay. This will burn through my little savings within 5 months. I honestly don’t want to stay but I don’t want to go broke after 5 months and cannot support my family (3 kids and a partner).

Every day opening up my laptop and looking at my work phone… I feel like I’m in a burning building. It’s either I burn in it. Or jump out and quit with no job lined up. Going through spreadsheets answering emails etc. my eyes. I just go dyslexic.

What am I asking? Is there anyone who went through this only to feel like it was worth while at the end? (Aside from health side. I’m working on that now. )”

Thanks in advance

Get FMLA

For everyone in the US whose terrible job is affecting their mental and/ or physical health: go talk to a provider about getting FMLA days. As someone with significant anxiety/ depression I cannot recommend this enough, holy shit.

Its illegal for your employer to deny your FMLA time off or count it against your attendance. The only downside is for us hourly employees, it either isn't paid time off OR will eat up your pto you don't have it for vacations/ physical illness. I still think its 100% worth it.

You will most likely need to talk to your HR to get the forms. They legally cannot ask you to provide more information than the form requires. After that, you bring them or fax them to the provider and discuss what would be the best way to use it for you. You can do an immediate emergency time off and for ongoing potential absences. Fill it out for your worst case scenario needs, but please also use it before you get that bad. Keep in mind, if you have it set up for an ongoing x amount of hours/ days off per month, you'll likely need to renew the paperwork each year.

You can also file FMLA for physical illnesses if you're sick for longer than the attendance policy "allows". I was bed ridden for a full week and when I finally came back to work, manager threatened to fire me for the time missed. Had my doctor fill out FMLA and it immediately went away.

Do not let HR or your managers bully you. You don't owe the company shit. Your health is not worth a shit ass job.

The federal regulations for those who need to fight HR: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-V/subchapter-C/part-825 (There are a lot of subsections)

Earning for a living

Hello All,

I am 32F, I stay in a town close to Mumbai. I work in IT and in total I have around 80lacs(stocks, gold, sip, everything). I don't like my job, especially the work culture where my manager sits on my head and forces me to work.

Each day I think of resigning.

I don't have a lot of needs. What options do I have if I quit now.

I loathe my job and all of my co-workers

I'm gonna be generous and say that the first month was pretty good. The people were nice, the tasks were manageable, and the kitchen crew willingly, and with relish, helped me out whenever shit got overwhelming.

Then entered Mr. Wandering Cellphone.

He's been here for three years and something. I've just passed the three and a half month mark. I DO SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT ASSHOLE, for shit pay and shit tips, and he gets more than me in both areas. On top of that, he gets respect.

I get zero respect, zero attention, and I honestly don't fucking know why.

Things were basically hell by around the one month mark, and it all started because I asked Mr. WC not to use a hydraulic tool to tighten a few bolts. Doing that slows down the line and causes shit to back up. He laughed and continued doing it anyway. I brought that, along with a few other concerns, to management, and the bolt issue was eventually rectified.

By around the two month mark, I had officially become the restaurant's leper.

Everyone avoids me. Everyone ignores me.

I want out. I'm trying to get out. The problem is that finding even an okay job in my area is fucking hard, so I'm stuck trying to survive this place while desperately looking for a way out.

I'm losing my mind here.

My mental health is suffering badly. I hate waking up on the days I'm scheduled. I've already cried several times, and not once has anyone asked if I'm okay. I've been injured at least a dozen times, sometimes because of my own clumsiness in spaces that are far too fucking small to manoeuvre around properly.

I hate leaving my apartment. I hate leaving my cats. I hate coming here, day after day, to a place where I don't feel respected and where it's painfully obvious that I'm not wanted.

Coming here every day feels like junior high all over again.

The only difference is that now I'm getting paid by bi-monthly deposit.

Hate being the fill in

I really hate being the fill in. For context I work at a chicken shop and my current role is whenever someone calls out im the one that was hired specifically to fill in for people's shift. It also makes it to where I have 0 consistency in my shifts. I could work openings, I might work a close. I might work a close into an opening with less than 10 hours before the next shift. I hate it so much. We recently had to shut down for a couple days and I was so happy to not be working. But now im being asked to fill in for a coworker who called out and I wasn't even scheduled tomorrow. Want to say no so bad but again...i was hired mostly to fill the gaps...
