The Emotional Spectrum: Omori
It is a SHOCKINGLY common opinion I’ve seen that Omori gameplay boils down to rock paper scissors (Happy beats Angry, Sad Beats Happy, Angry beats Sad) with no strategy or variance.
This completely ignores that even the in-game tutorial paper you’re given (that also serves as EXTREMELY good foreshadowing) shows that the emotions have different effects on your stats as well.
The UNIVERSAL experience of a first time Omori player (or at least for me and all my friends) is trying to stack anger against happy and then getting one shot by a crit because happy increases you crit chance and speed and anger reduces your defense
This also is completely ignoring that there are moves not tied to the emotions system, and moves that have special effects connected to the emotion system that may even incentivize putting yourself at a disadvantage against a type for the buff they give
(The early game move “Stab” you get for Omori is a guaranteed crit and ignores defense if he’s sad, which can be really strong even against angry because of their lowered defense)
Looping: Dead by Daylight
It was an extremely common in-joke that Dead by Daylight gameplay boils down to two people chasing eachother around a rock for five minutes. At some point in the game’s ten year history however, this breached containment and seems to be the unironic popular take on the game from a majority of people, especially by other asymmetrical game players
DBD has a whole host of perks, techs, fakes, and strategies on both sides. So much intact it’s another extremely common in-joke in the community that even if you have hundreds of hours in the game you can still be a “noob” due to the sheer scale of everything inside
Builds: Skyrim
I’ll be the first person to say that Skyrim is by no means a perfect game, and I’m way more critical of it than the other two entries. But it drives me up a WALL whenever people say that the only viable build is the stealth archer build.
It’s like people turn their brains off and forget about every single other way to play simply because stealth archer is the easiest to get strong with.
