science savvy 🧬 The left side represents the most common false memories from the Mandela Effect—a psychological phenomenon where large groups of people share the same vivid but incorrect recollection.

I’m genuinely convinced that some of these Mandela effects are just really good marketing tactics.

I will maintain its fruit of the loom releases THROUGH Walmart in the 90s. My mom would buy those giant packs of underwear and they absolutely had the cornucopia on them. Only at Walmart, and Walmart had and has contracts to release versions of products sometimes and I’m assuming that’s what happened.

I know for a fact Fruit of the Loom had a cornucopia in the logo because it's the only reason I know what it is. I remember specifically pointing to it as a kid and asking my mom what it was. I know for a fact they had one otherwise I would literally not know the word cornucopia. Nobody can convince me it didn't exist

They are a number of things that you could say fall under that umbrella. Sometimes they are done as an experiment. But take fruit of the loom for example. They changed it when they got bought out and then just lied about it.

Where's the video evidence of that logo?
Fruit of the Loom advertised on TV. There are many people who recorded old commercials and stuff like that. Where is an old commercial using the disputed logo?
To be clear, this one is the one I think I remember. But I still want better evidence than random t-shirts or pictures. Show me an old advertisement.
4
u/Laid_Low_Ludlow Mar 25 '26
I remember seeing a newspaper ad posted somewhere to prove this that had the cornucopia, but even accepting that it was genuine, the add was off model for most of the assets and seemed to be hyper-localized to like one chain of three stores in new england. Still, people wanted it to true so this was presented as hard evidence despite being about as representative of the brand as that one Burger King that lost it's franchise, but never changed any of the signage until they got caught cause they ran out of branded cups.

7
u/Atypical_Mammal Mar 25 '26
I absolutely also remember the cornucopoa.
But... I think that the logo + name itself is just somehow inherently ... cornucopogenic?
There is something about this combination - this particular arrangement of fruits, this particular font of brand name, and just a sheer incongruity of this weird-ass name of an underpants company - that makes us all hallucinate a horn of plenty. It's like an inadvertent mild cognitohazard
→ More replies (6)16
u/pasmasq Mar 25 '26
Its definitely possible when you consider that most Americans with this specific Mandela effect spent years coloring fruit-filled cornucopias for Thanksgiving in elementary school.
Its not a huge jump to think they'd then associate bundles of fruit with a cornucopia.
Then take the brand whose logo is a bundle of fruit... and the rest is history.
13
u/Bodger81 Mar 25 '26

Thanksgiving cornucopias where never depicted with what most people consider fruit. More like squash/pumpkin/corn/wheat. It's quite different from the fruit of the loom.
10
u/pasmasq Mar 25 '26
See, the magic of the internet is that you can google "Thanksgiving Cornucopia coloring book pages for kids" and prove yourself wrong right now.
It'll take less than a minute and its free.
Yes, some of them definitely have more fall harvest vegetables, but saying they're never depicted with fruit is not accurate. The most common ones I've seen usually have grapes, apples, pears, and pumpkins. Maybe an ear of corn if the designers were feeling frisky.

u/jessrose23 Mar 25 '26
I was actually gonna push back on this because I dont think 3 maybe 4 years of seasonal state-mandated coloring would leave that kind of impact (assuming you were given the cornucopia each year instead turkeys or pilgrims or whatever)
But then i remembered teacher decorations.
I still think its a bit of a reach given that wouldnt explain how non-Americans remember it, and with such exact detail. But yeah absolutely valid point.

Yeah that's correct for German words with an ei but for some reason a lot of people say steen, which would be with an ie in German. u/Twiddly_twat Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
My in-laws saved dozens of Berenstein Bears books from my husband’s childhood, and there are definitely both spellings. I think the spelling choice depended on the publisher. I can take a pic when I go over to their house later today.
ETA: Oh damn! This example of the Mandela effect is legit. I just walked into their guest room, camera ready to snap a pic, and then ate some serious crow. It really is all Berenstain across the board. I was 1000% confident there were two spellings, and would have bet any amount of money on it. I guess “Berenstain” didn’t sound right in my head, so I made up a version that made more sense to me. This is going to mess with me for a minute.

It was never written “Looney Toons”, thus why I’m saying people are combining “Tiny Toons” & “Looney Tunes” when they think it’s the incorrect logo on the left.

It’s also easy to see how weird your spelling was when you were younger if you have writing or drawings from when you were a kid - I’ve looked at some of my old comics from back then and I’d sometimes spell the same word different ways within the same sentence. I’m guessing your internal spelling sticks within your mind, especially since these are brands you’d be familiar with as a kid, and you don’t see them again till pointed out or when you look closely which is when you see you were mistaken or become arrogant insisting the world has switched universe.

Are we just misremembering things and trying to pass it off as a conspiracy...
My theory is that some of these are disinformation to poison the topic.
Remember Pizzagate? It was ridiculous to suggest that a cannibal/pedophile cabal was using food as code words for heinous acts, but it became more ridiculous to claim they met in a non-existent basement beneath a pizza joint.
10% truth & 90% lies.
And frankly, I don't care what the reason is that we are being gaslit about a fkn underwear logo but the fact that so much effort has been put into sowing distrust, not only among humans and their experiences, but to distrust ones own mind is eerily convenient to certain people and their goals of dominance.
I misremember things just like everyone. When I become aware that I've misremembered something, I can usually backtrack my thoughts and see how I came to the misconception. This doesn't happen to me with the cornucopia issue.

It's not the bottle, it's the spelling. It's spelled "Febreze", no double <e>, but some people swear they remember it spelled like the word "breeze".
9
u/Kurfaloid Mar 25 '26
I remember when the product came out, specifically reading an article about a novel corn-based chemical that actually destroyed odors beyond simply covering them up with a scent and seeing the name "Febreze" and thinking it was pronounced Fuh-breh-zay. It was never Febreeze.
3
u/figmentPez Mar 25 '26

European monopoly jr. from the 1996 has the monocle for Mr. Pennybags on the two bill. You can even find bills of it on Ebay still.
Also - Fruit of the Loom had the cornucopia. It was proven a few years ago from some old shirts.
Berenstein was also a spelling on a few books with type errors. Berenstain. Random books in library have this error. So kinda but not really.
29
u/LionBig1760 Mar 25 '26
There are several versions of Monopoly from the mid-90s that were found with a monocle on the Monopoly guy.
The cornucopia was also there. It even appears on the company's application for trademark in the description of the logo that was approved by the US trademark office. Its bizarre that the company is trying to gaslight everyone.

The pikachu one is funny bc there has been like a million different iterations of the look. Pretty much every generation they change something. Iirc it was gen 5 or 6 where they made female pikachus tail have an end shaped like the top of a heart.
I know in the games it’s always been a pure yellow tail but there has had to have been a pikachu in the Anime with a black tipped tail. I only watched the indigo league as a kid but there’s an almost 0% chance in my mind that in the thousands of episodes of Pokémon the animators didn’t get creative with a side character Pikachu.

I personally don't remember JIF as JIFFY but I'd bet that Mandela effect comes from people coming JIF and SKIPPY cuz skippy was HUGE in the 90s. They came out with that squeezable peanut butter stick for some reason and that just landed with us folk lol

The Fruit of the Loom one isn't Mandela Effect, people have found pieces of their clothing with the cornucopia logo. For some reason tho, FOTL refuses to acknowledge it
