Hey on the bright side, we're already on the 16th! Not too far away when ya think about it. And that's not considering the slight-but-ever-so-possible chance of it being sooner.
Then again, this also makes me think "this month JUST started how is time flying" ;-;

I know for me it's because I've spent the last several days watching WoW Forever content.
Thinking about that, this new DL update, the OOT remake, the Valheim 1.0 launch, and the Dec POE2 1.0 launch.
It's all got me so excited that I forgot time even exists for a little.

they've dropped patches in the middle of actual dota tournaments before, so holding off for a fake competitive event wouldnt be like them

u/Jamesish12 Deadman Danny Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 17 '26
Billy was released during the break between game 1 and 2 of a nightshift.
The mcginnis nerf patch which was massive was release after EU finished nightshift and before NA started.
I'm sure it's happened many times, though usually a patch will hit after DLNS addressing whatever happened in it like the urn disaster.
Edit: the balance update was released right after the first EU teams finished drafting, so the teams re-drafted and played on the new patch. A prevalent opinion was that this was THE BEST DLNS so far due to how fun the matches were and how comebacks were actually earned.
92
u/Bot322420 Sep 15 '26
well billy's release was already scheduled, nightshift just don't want to change their usual weekly schedule for it

Thanks for the definition. Anyways, anyone who has played the game for years has probably noticed by now minor balance patches have generally done an extremely poor job of breaking up things that are meta.
The last minor balance patch for Celeste is a perfect example. There's genuinely no reason to assume a minor balance patch is going to kill Warden or prevent every M1 carry from abusing Magnum/Overflow. I expect that in the item rework.

There are literally lots of examples of the opposite happening. The OP items / builds get nerfed, something else gets buffed to be the new flavor of the day
Echo Shard got nerfed, Tornado spam and Sleep Haze gone
Haze ult bot and Curse got nerfed
Mina deleting everyone with ult got nerfed
Apollo riposte-ing away from any danger got nerfed
Doorman gets rebalanced like every patch to get some buffs and nerfs (kidnapping gone though)
Shiv and Silver being nerfed like every patch
Viscous gun / splatter builds being nerfed
Yamato 6 grapples removed
Dashfernus nerfed
Calico going from useless to existing in every game and back and back again and back
Resto locket being bought by everyone nerfed (talking about the stamina changes, not the latest round)
McGinnis ult / turrets nerfed

Leakers have said there will likely be no heroes, since they’ve received no such information pertaining to that. Then again, there’s a chance Valve is trying to stop as much details from going out as possible.

Considering how little we know, I’d like to agree that valve just keeps a tight wrap on things. I would also like to say that Dota and other valve games are similar, they just don’t really have leaks. I’m sure there are Dota leaks, I just never hear about them before Dota release new content IE.

There are data miners in Dota, these are the list from 6 years ago. Some of those heroes already released like bird_samurai, primal_beast, and puppet_master. And these were the latest leaks we got, and some proved to be true. We got the Dark Carnival on late June, still waiting for the new hero tho.
7
u/SunnyFreyers Sep 16 '26
Are data miners really leaking though? Isn’t that publicly accessible information or am I missing something? It’s accessible from the files of the game itself right? I honestly didn’t know those counted as leaks.

Considering their work level so far which has been pretty phenomenal, I don't think it would take them 9 months to do just map and jungle content especially if they are splitting the items for later...or there is a big new PvE gamemode or something to make up for people's expectations. True we haven't had as many leaks but we did hear about the cheshire rumour and rumoured hero names (Olympus, Kler etc), they probably just brought the leakers out back and shot them.
I don't think we'll have the big hero updates forever either but I don't see why it has to stop now especially with how popular they have been and Yoshi would probably temper our expectations first. I wouldn't rule anything out though or that we get a smaller hero update this time with more focus on other content. Heroes or not I think we'll get something substantial though.

34
u/ginger6616 Sep 16 '26

20
u/CertainDerision_33 Mina Sep 16 '26
It's impossible for a jungle change to be purely aesthetic since it'll have to rework how the jungle actually plays.
2
u/PlayfulSurprise5237 Sep 16 '26
I mean... It could just be aesthetics. Models and textures can change but not layouts or mechanics
3
u/Regular-Bid6812 Calico Sep 16 '26
no there's probably going to be different kinds of camps with discretely different mechanics like in dota and other mobas. It only makes sense to rework objectives at the same time as remodeling them. (the patrons thronerooms for example)
2
u/CertainDerision_33 Mina Sep 16 '26
There’s a 0% chance that the finished jungle will be just raw HP blobs with no mechanics. Both LoL and DotA have jungles with actual mechanics and this will too.

u/daily-lurk Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 16 '26
Eh it would make sense to do that. If they add new objectives, a game mode, new map layout, have major farm adjustments, etc, then some items could over or under perform. Like Veil walker could be dead in the water if there’s less veils near objectives, cultist could get insane value if there’s more jungle and if gets tankier, etc.
6
u/UltraJake Deadman Danny Sep 15 '26
True, though either way a split release makes things much easier for them. They probably decided that players think content > items and went with this option in order to prevent the spread of rabies.

10
u/CarlFromHungerForce8 Deadman Danny Sep 15 '26
My guess is a rework of boss and an enhanced rift. Too much of the game revolves around boss to where the earlier parts of the game feel un-necessary.
Jungle camps are likely being reworked as well, maybe defeated jungle camps join the lanes like rifts currently do (this is how it works in HoTS).
Reworked movement system so not every fight is aerial combat. I would like to see different heroes have more differences in mobility than just stamina bars. (Celeste/holliday are a good start but needs to be more universal)
Map changes to make geometry more interesting to fight in. Every lane feels samey.
Melee rework is low chance but also possible.
I'm guessing at least half of these are in the update if no heroes are added.
5
u/genuine_beans Graves Sep 15 '26
Jungle camps are likely being reworked as well, maybe defeated jungle camps join the lanes like rifts currently do (this is how it works in HoTS).
After the XP/healing orbs from HotS, I'd love if they did this. Gives you a way to set up for objectives and gives jungle camps a tangible effect on the map. It also lets camps have a tradeoff between farming efficiency and lane pressure (cheap, easy grubs that give lots of souls vs. a big tanky unit that's hard to deal with).
The 2-minute jungle camps at the beginning of the game would also be interesting if they marched down lane. It'd make some lanes harder than others and you could time it if you think your opponents are going to leave to do a box run. If you backdoor your opponent's T1 camp, they would walk right into the tower and disable its protection.

-Celeste gets 5% more gravity now -20% up from -25% gravity.
-Celeste's ultimate... Aaah you thought!
-Silver's ult head hitbox reduced by 3% (So meaningful)
-Silver's gun damage increased by 5% on every real life full moon, reduced by 5% on every real life new moon. (Lol losers)
-Mercurial mag fire rate reduced by 5% (Now scales with spirit at 0.25% per SP) (also we didn't fix it working for silver's ult form M1, would be really cool to have though huh? Too bad it won't work)
-Spiritual overflow gets another 15 spirit power on its trigger.
-Warden's ult cast time resistances increased to 99%
-Warden's shield reduced by 5 to 120 was 125.

Shame, the wait has been so long that it was nice knowing we were getting 2 huge updates to the game bringing it down to just 1 is a bit sad lol
Excited regardless and hope the item update isn't too far behind

I don't know what they could do with the items to make a big update by itself. Maybe I just lack imagination. But I just have this feeling that the content update might not be that much, if it's being lumped into some trio with ranked and items. Hopefully it's substantial.

Yoshi casually dropping major roadmap updates in discord chat like he's talking about the weather will never get old.

I see. Well, that's good. I think Yoshi understands that we're starving for content and wants to give us something that will keep us entertained for a long time while they're working on the item patch. That makes sense.
I'm pretty sure an item patch is easier to make than a content patch, by the way, and I think that's exactly why they delayed it. The content patch is simply much bigger.
