Studio's/Flats Rent $$

What are people paying for a self-contained studio/1-bed/granny flat around the Gold Coast?

I Will be moving to the Yatala / Loganholme / Ormeau / Pimpama / Coomera area for work and trying to work out a realistic budget.

Ideally looking for somewhere small but fully self-contained with a bathroom, kitchenette, private entrance and laundry. Or at least as much of that as possible.

If you're renting something similar, what are you paying, bills included? and where abouts :)

Just trying to get an idea of the current price range before I move up.

Care staff to give suppositories?

The man I house share with will soon have major orthopaedic surgery. He’ll be given opioids to relieve the pain which cause extreme constipation. A man I shared with years ago had trained agency staff visit for precisely that reason. I can’t remember which one. Anyone have a clue who to get help from for this?

Grief support groups

Hi all, sadly my father has been diagnosed with stage four cancer and has been given only weeks left to live. I am really struggling atm, and would love to find a in-person grief support group, however finding them hard to come by.

Just wondering if anyone has suggestions or recommendations. I’m open to online, however would prefer face to face. Also I currently reside on the Gold Coast, and happy to travel to Logan or Brisbane for the right support.

Thank you kindly in advance 🤍🙏🏽

Local Question How much are you guys paying for dental check-up & clean?

Hello, I've been considering getting extras-only health insurance just for dental care, as I've found a few companies where the insurance would be slightly cheaper than not having it. However, I've come across a lot of people on here saying it's cheaper to just pay for dental costs than pay for extras cover. Which has got me thinking that maybe my dentist is pretty expensive compared to others?

So I just wanted to see where my dentist stands. I pay $190 for a general clean and check-up. Is this around how much you guys are paying? Or are there much cheaper clinics that are good?

Hey guys, I've just arrived at the Gold Coast alone and want to play Topgolf since I'm here. However, I noticed you have to pay for a bay, not for a single person.

Would anyone want to join me? Im happy to shout out.

Local Question White van on Smith Street

So I’m not normally the person to give a shit about a car on the side of the road, but after more then 2 years of this guy sitting in the same spot you’ve got to wonder what’s his obsession with it. Not to mention everyone slamming on their brakes thinking it’s a mobile speed camera. Maybe someone knows this bloke and could tell me what’s up 🤷‍♂️

Local Question Anyone know which school group visited Yiros in Burleigh Heads on Monday 12th October?

As a late 30’s adult, I thought my days of being bullied and intimidated by high school girls was behind me, but apparently not.

I was ordering an early lunch at one of the screens when a huge girls group turned up and some of them hurled abuse at me for (apparently) taking too long. I thought a stern look would work, but it just fuelled the fire. Ended up panic ordering then feeling very uncomfortable waiting for it as they circled round me like hyenas whispering and giving me looks. A teacher then turned up, and I realised it was a school group, but I didn’t clock the name on her t shirt.

I am keen to understand which school this was as I may send an email about the behaviour of the girls in question. I have a picture of them but ideally don’t want to post it.

Thanks for any info.

Who remembers "Harry" the homeless guy from ~1995?

Post image

I just found some old DVDs of photos I backed up and here's a shot of Harry from 2000.

He used to visit McDonald's at Pacific Fair just before close and buy a cheap tea (i think was 20c as a token amount vs free). I had chatted to him when I worked there in 1995 post close late at night.

Back then he said: "you should start wearing a gas mask... because in the future everyone will and you can say you were a trendsetter"

When covid hit 25 years later I remembered this conversation.

Back then he seemed to be the only visibly homeless person on the coast. Pushing a trolley around. Causing no issues.

A rumour was that he was secretly rich but now as an adult that seems like a mean lie.

Anyway wanted to share as curious to know what happened to him

41m from bali, looking for friends to hangout or exercise/surfing, or coffee around burleigh.

Hi everyone😇. I've been living on the Gold Coast for almost 7years now, i found that it is really hard to find some friends to hangout with, do surfing or even just to chat over a cup of coffee. I do realize that my work and having family with kids makes it even harder to find friends here, i don't have any social life outside the house. I tried to join a couple of group communities but it was very slow and hard to make some friendship connection. The only people that i talk to mostly are my work mates at work and that's about it. I am having a hard time meeting people here compared to when i was living in bali.

Drop me a message if you guys wanna hangout or just have a coffee somewhere around burleigh, or if you wanna watch some live music, or anything😇.

Please no judgement or harsh comments🙇. Thank you.

Regardless of your political leanings, or views of the matter of this ATO Credit Card Ban, comments like this are completely disgusting, violent and aren’t parliamentary.

These words aren't appropriate for a leader, or for anyone I think we would want representing us in Parliament.

Gold Coast Hire Car options

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for car hire on the Gold Coast for just one day.
Mainly around surfers paradise.

So far, I've come across the following options:

Most of the other options I've found are either at the airport or further north, so I'm ideally looking for something more convenient around the central Gold Coast.

Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with any of the above? I'd particularly appreciate feedback on pricing, hidden fees, bond requirements, vehicle condition and how easy the pickup and return process is.

I'm also happy to hear about any other local companies you'd recommend.

Thanks in advance! Hopefully this post will also help future travellers looking for a simple, one-day car hire option on the Gold Coast. 😊

A white Toyota Yaris parked at the Pimpama City Shopping Centre has this on their windscreen as the security is making rounds slapping it on vehicles that are parked there when they have taken the train to work.

Lady tradies on coomera connector

For my job I drive all over the north end of the coast. I pass the road works at the connector at multiple points all through out the day. I see one or two lady tradies at every works. Most with a full face of makeup. They look bored not doing much every single time. They are dressed in new hi vis that remains spotless all day. I was thinking they are stop go workers but most works have stop lights already. All the male tradies are dirty as by lunchtime and have oldish looking hi vis. Most seem to be working most of the time. Just curious cos it looks like a pretty nice job and if they have any positions available lol

Sunscreen recommendations for dry/sensitive face skin?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a sunscreen that absorbs into the skin well, doesn’t look wet and is really good for dry & sensitive skin - especially my face.

Any sunscreen I get on my face right now seems to not properly absorb into my skin, looks really wet/oily and then makes my already sensitive facial skin flare up and go red.

I really need to find a sunscreen that is great for dry and sensitive facial skin and would really appreciate any recommendations!

Thank you!!
