Discussion What you think about Scrooged (1988)?
In this movie Bill Murray is playing Bob Croos who tv executive and in this version of the Christmas carol he is supposed to be Scrooge . I really like this version , the humor is much darker than other holiday movies and ghost of the Christmas past and future looked really scary . Bill Murray give probably one off most underrated performances in this movie and also Karen Allen and Alfie Woodard

Discussion Just Watched "The Long Walk" - Wow
I feel completely surprised by the fact I never heard more about this. I somehow also understand why I didn't as well. It is brutal, and real, and everyone in this feels like someone that should have a chance in the world.
This is a devastatingly beautiful and scary film. Every single actor in this movie was perfect. The people you hate initially you almost can't hate at the end because of what this world has done to them.
What a terrifying world that we don't get to actually know about and it makes everything that you wonder about it so much more scary.
Man I am devastated but this was a beautiful movie to cry to!
The character 'Peter' in this movie I thought seemed so familiar and he actually plays the android in "Alien: Romulus" which is such an entirely differently placed character it just shows his unreal range. After that, I learned from a friend that same actor is actually going to be the next Black Panther and my god what a fantastic choice for Marvel. He has unreal range and I cannot wait to see what he does!
Gotta also mention the incredible job by actor Joshua Odjick as "Collie" and him being able to represent some native pride.
edit: i gotta also apologize for not responding to everyone that has responded, I super appreciate reading it at this hour and I look forward to reading more with breakfast. I really am so happy to see it resonated with so many. That ending was just beautiful. The freedom he always wanted. GD I am goingto cry again but it is a good cry hahha!

Recommendation a little lost in life and looking for movies that deal with that theme
I want movies where the main characters find perspective or find themselves after losing their sense of self. Ideally these movies would make me reconsider everything I know about life or open me up to new perspectives I hadn't considered before. I would prefer something emotional and poignant. Bonus points for found family , friendship, growing up , losing friends and relearning friendships - themes like these.

News Bimbo's Initiation (1931) (hand-colorized)
I have finally completed the frame-by-frame hand colorization of this amazing Fleischer Studios classic, the one and only Bimbo's Initiation!
This time, it took me almost double the time compared to Swing You Sinners, taking 14 months and lots and lots of clicks!
I had a lot of support for my previous work on this sub, I hope that I will get it also this time!

Review Taika Waititi's 'Klara and the Sun' - Review Thread
Rotten Tomatoes: 20% (from 10 reviews) with 3.60 average rating
Metacritic: 27/100 (8 critics)
-----------------------------------------------
David Jenkins, Little White Lies - 1/5:
This potentially rich subject matter is squandered by Waititi who has a juvenile habit of undercutting any hint at profundity with a jolt of silly humour or a comic rug pull.
Clarissay Loughrey, The Independent - 2/5:
The book was about who we fundamentally are, now and tomorrow. The film is about the power of love and friendship. That seems like quite the downgrade.
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian - 1/5:
Taika Waititi detonates an explosion of postmodern quirkiness and ironic dorkiness in this unbearably mannered, unspeakably acted film.
Tim Robey, Daily Telegraph - 1/5:
Ishiguro’s thoughts on the ever-evolving relationship between technology and humanity are tossed away like so much thematic confetti. It’s hard to fathom what Waititi thought he was doing in playing things for laughs.
Kevin Maher, The Times - 1/5:
It’s a hopeless film, slippery and mendacious, full of gross Hallmark sentiment, and has been bettered by a myriad of previous robot companion flicks.
Matt Rodgers, Flickering Myth - 3/5:
Klara and the Sun is simply a lovely little fable of hope about what it means to be human, anchored by a delightful performance from Jenna Ortega that makes it just about worthy of your time.
Ben Gibbons, Screenrant - 5/10:
I'm disappointed to say that Klara and the Sun fails to capture the beauty of a carefully constructed dystopian tale, instead offering up a ham-fisted sci-fi comedy with a hollow message.
Clotilde Chinnici, Loud and Clear - 3/5:
As an adaptation, it suffers from the lack of exploration of its central themes and a considerable struggle in its worldbuilding and set up.
-----------------------------------------------
Director: Taika Waititi
Synopsis: Klara is an artificial intelligence friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. It soon meets Josie, a young woman who has a fraught relationship with her mother. But Klara's innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty soon start to heal the family and bring some light to Josie's complicated world.

Recommendation What’s a good horror movie that doesn’t rely on jump scares?
Hello!
Halloween being right around the corner, I’d like to watch a few horror movies. However, I feel like a lot of horror movies rely on jump scares rather than real creepy stuff. In other words, they use surprise rather than eerie elements. I’ve watched too many of those, and always felt like it doesn’t leave me scared or thinking about it a few days later. Maybe what I’m looking for would be psychological horror?
Any recommendations?
Thank you!

Discussion Some great movies you'd recommend , but you never want to watch again?
Atonement just come to mind the other day. Great movie, incredible characters with so much chemistry and unfulfilled promise that it still haunts me to this day. I would love to see those characters again, but I'm still painted by the injustice of the story and can't do it to myself again.
It made me think of other movies that give me the same vibe: Incredible film that was worth the time and attention, but I cannot watch it again.
Other films for me that meet this criteria are Grave of the Fireflies and 12 Years a Slave off the top of my head. What are some of yours?
ETA: The Stoning of Soraya M.
