The more aggressively they push their app in the web version (and it's pretty aggressive) the more inclined you should be to avoid it.FB Lite app is better if it's still around, the one they made to track poorer people.

A pure copper block the exact size of a standard American construction brick is worth approximately $140.14 based on the current market spot price of $6.635 per pound
Copper is dirt cheap bro. The only reason they don't use copper is because it's extremely soft and oxidizes into the color puke green.

Phone companies do this often. They'll say "The glass the 2x more scratch resistant." they hardened the glass so it's easier to shatter it. "This year we made it 3x shatter resistant" they made the glass softer so it's easier to scratch. They'll keep doing this loop every year. There isn't actually a new discovery or anything, gorilla glass and other types of glass aren't doing magical things. They are just lying to you.
119
u/future23123 19d ago
I have to say that Gorilla glass did noticeably improve through years. I've had s6 edge, s8, s10+, s 20 ultra, s 26.
The s26 is the first one where i see no scratches at all. S20 got one, the ones before had more.
→ More replies (30)62
u/Unbreakable2k8 19d ago
What they're saying is right. There is a balance between scratch and shatter resistance, if you go more in one direction, you lose in the other. Unless they switch to sapphire we won't see much improvements.
→ More replies (9)19
u/Proof_Counter_8271 19d ago
sapphire also would allow the phone to be made with titanium without having cooling problems due to having a lot better heat transfer than tempered glass, but any scratch would make it easily break too
→ More replies (3)8
u/longtimegoneMTGO 19d ago
Sapphire is easy to break even without scratches.
People mistake hardness for durability, but it's just one aspect. Yes, it's hard to scratch sapphire, I can rub a chunk on the concrete and it's the concrete that will scratch.
Drop that same chunk of sapphire on the concrete and it will break or chip with ease. I've broken lab sapphire from just fat fingered fumbling it onto the floor from sitting height.

Agreed. They were light, plasticy, and their screens didn't respond to touch but had an air gap between the display and outer protective layer.
They scratched easily, but it didn't matter because it rarely affected functionality and there was virtually no resale market to worry about.

It’s not just “chronically online” and “gaming psycho” people that had thermal issues with the steel and titanium iPhones. My 13 Pro would overheat and dim the screen and drastically slow down after sometimes literally seconds of trying to use the camera outdoors, and complete shutdowns due to heat weren’t uncommon. I like to take a lot of pictures outside and I live in a place that gets quite hot for at least 8 months out of the year, so it was a real issue for me. Even just sorting through my camera roll would cause the screen to dim sometimes, even when inside in AC.
I also worked in an Apple Retail store and the 15/16 pros were notoriously bad thermally, even for normal users who weren’t doing anything crazy. With both the steel and titanium phones, they could pretty frequently get hot to the point of actually painful to hold.
In contrast, my 17 Pro has been amazing thermally, hasn’t shut down a single time due to heat, and only rarely even dims the screen in 90F+ temps. The durability thing is also wildly overblown, I’ve been using it without a case/screen protector for almost a year and have no damage to the frame and only minor scratches on the screen.

I’ve had an otterbox case on every phone I’ve owned since 2013. Before that I used Life Proof. Samsung, Apple, etc. all get an Otterbox. For the last decade I’ve been rocking iPhones and have had Apple care the whole time. I still put it in a case.
My old 16 Pro Max that I use for video capture is in a beast cage. That phone lives its life on a tripod. Still in a sturdy case.
I truly don’t understand how y’all can raw dog your daily life without a case on your phone. Sure it fits in pockets better but we’re talking about a $2000 item that runs your whole life.

I like the feeling of holding a phone without a case as the next person but when you think about the times we drop our phones, the phone will look like it went through midlife crisis by the time you either trade it in or sell it so it’s best to put a screen protector and a case on. Businesses want to make profit, not to just please their audience, especially if it’s a big enough company where they know that people will buy anything from them.

Still got the 12 pro max, still works, completely paid off, and no need to try and upgrade it. Stop trying to keep up with all the trends and stuff. Just get a phone and keep it. Nobody thinks you’re cool or rich because you walking around with a new phone.
Edit: I put in bold and italics the part that a lot of you in my replies seem to be missing. This isn’t about never ever buy a new phone ever. This is about buying a new phone every single time a new one drops. It’s about all the trend chasing people who get fomo because they don’t have the newest toy that hit the market. It's not aluminium, it's CHEAP aluminium.
There are aluminium alloys that are fantastic and are as hard and ductile as some steel alloys (obviously not stronger than top grade steel). But those alloys aren't all that cheap...

It's exactly the correct material for an iPhone. How else do you think they're going to get you to buy the next shiny one?

Is the damage in the room with us? That tiny scuff? A phone is a utility device who fucking cares

Using $1400 phone without a case then complains about dents and scratches.

Get a god damn case. The most 3rd party supported device on earth and people are still raw dogging their 1000+$ phone.

My iPhone 18 Pro came out of the box and got screen protector glass and otterbox case. I had my hands on the actual phone for about 2 minutes total before armoring it completely.

Gold is the most noble of metals. And diamonds are the hardest element. Let’s add a couple zeros to the iPhone price and do this thing right

Aluminium makes it feel more expensive which is what they were going for.
The cynical side of me also says that because it scuffs easier it will look older faster which makes people more likely to buy the new one when that comes out.
